View Full Version : Has atlantis lost that Season 1 alone charm?

You all know the story of Stargate Atlantis. They come to atlantis in search of Ancient tech and whatnot. However, they also came knowing the trip was one-way

And when they got there, Making a wormhole to Earth was not even possible.

So... They are all alone in a sense. They have on their hands this overwhelming enemy, No ancients, and a city low on power.

The other charm was how it was completley diffrent from SG-1. It was a bit darker sometimes even.

However, with Season 2, they have the Dedalus to get back to earth whenever they want and a new ZPM to dial home every day.

I feel that it has lost that sort of Alone charm, and is becoming a bit more SG-1 ish now.

Anyone else share my feeling? :p

I agree completely. I think the show was much better when they could not return to earth, and it was kept seperate. But I suppose it would be difficult to do crossovers then.

I read that they didn't want the show to be compared to Star Trek Voyager where they spent the entire show trying to find a way home, and I agree with them on that. I think it's good that they are now able to get home because it does help set them apart from Star Trek Voyager. Now if they could just get rid off those hideous Star Trek looking uniforms they'd be good.

I really wasn't impressed with seasons 1 and 2. The show is beginning to grow on me this season.

I kind of like the fact that they have the contact. I think the key is finding a good balance in which they aren't doing too much of that, so they still sort of have their own show.

I still think that alone feeling was one of its old charms.

Plus these crossovers have been pretty bad -_-

I don't recall crossovers being bad. But then I must admit I haven't seen every episode of the show either, I missed a lot in season 2. But that crossover on SG-1 for "The Pegasus Project" totally rocked.

I think one of the charms it is missing is that we don't really see them exploring Atlantis anymore. Weir just said in Pegasus Project that a large portion of the city has still not been explored. I tend to like adventure more than action, so I like seeing them explore and finding cool things a whole lot better than seeing them fight enemies. So I would love to see more exploring, I think that's a charm of the show that's been lost.

I'd love to see them explore the planet too. They dumped the Ethosians off on the main land but I can't believe there's no evidence of Ancients or perhaps other life forms on the planet. I think it would be cool if there were merpeople living in the water. :p

Even though it could be compared to voyager, I still like the fact that they were stuck in that galaxy and could not get home. Or at least wait untill season 3 or 4 to figure a way back.

: o I agree, It would have been later they figure out a way back

I admit, Pegasus project is probably one of the best SG episodes... But still, whenever your watching the Atlantis doing somthing SG-1 related, is just sooo booring...

Maybe the 2nd spinoff will have a trapped theme to it.

Maybe a second spinoff could be about the Alpha site. But the impression I got from what I read is that it would be a new SG-1 team.

Season seven, that 2 parter episode in the middle, "Heroes"

The one where the doctor dies.

In it they had an SG team patrolling the planet they later fight on, and had some nice jokes. A hardassed commander sort of thing, really nerdy scientist.

"Just look at these ruins... Doctor jackson will die when he sees this!"
"What, again?"

I too feel it dosent have as much zing as season 1, but Im quite happy to take any peek into the universe of stargate so you wont hear many complaints from me!
