Did anyone else get the impression that Sam was a manifestation of the whale in an effort to communicate with McKay?
I only wish the episode had ended with McKay back in Atlantis.
This episode did not have Teyla or Beckett in it. Which to me made no sense. Considering what had happened, why wouldn't they have a medical doctor on the rescue mission in case they found any survivors who needed immediate medical attention? Beckett should have been in that puddle jumper too.

I actually really liked this episode. Yeah, it didn't make sense that Beckett wasn't there, but that's TV. I'm not too upset over it.
But, I loved the way Rodney's own imagination wouldn't cooperate with him. I do like how they interacted. That was a really good part of the show.

I found the kiss a little disturbing.

I had to tape it, and just got to watch it. I like the show as well, especially Sams outfit<img border=0 src="img.photobucket.com/album...jack2.gif" (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/DanielJackson/Emoticons/jack2.gif") /> .
I think the reason that Dr Becket was not on the jumper was that they were never supposed to pick up survivors. They were supposed to attach a cable and pull the jumper to the surface where a rescue team was waiting presumably with Becket on it.

I like the show as well, especially Sams outfit :p .
You're talking about the pink outfit, right? 8o

I liked both outfits<img border=0 src="www.ezboard.com/image/emo...c/eek.gif" (http://www.ezboard.com/image/emoticons_classic/eek.gif") /> but I'm a guy what do you expect.

I still think it was the whale communicating because I think if it was truly McKay's mind, she wouldn't have been wearing even that much.

According to Gateworld, Sam was Rodney's inner voice.
and
that the whale was helping Sheppard find the jumper.

This is the first episode of Atlantis I've ever watched so I was a bit lost about some of the characters, but I loved it.
I thought that it was funny when Rodney was bickering with 'Sam' over which of them was smarter. I guess his subconscious must disagree with his conscious mind and/or ego or it would never have conjured Sam.
McKay annoyed me on SG-1 but he was a more likeable character in this episode.
I liked the nod to the SG-1 episode 'Grace' and found the fact that the means of rescue looks to have been inspired by the real Sam while the hallucination Sam was keeping Rodney alive rather fitting, and amusing.

Rodney's character really didn't start to become likable until the second half of last season (season 1). He was still really annoying for the first half of the first season. But now he's found some courage and loyalty which makes his character stronger and more likable.

Maybe not even then. I remember there was a time when I wished his character to go away. Now, he is half the show.

I've liked McKay since the start of the show. He wasn't as good on SG-1, except for Threads- but that was different because he had already been on Atlantis for a while and the audience knew him as that McKay. Even before he had any courage or loyalty, he was funny.
I also got the feeling that the whale-esqe thing was perhaps communicating with McKay, but then I sort of lost that idea. By about 3/4 of the way through the episode, I was thinking about Sam as a manifestation of McKay's mind and nothing more. Can't recall what, but something must've made me begin to lose confidence in the whale-communicating-with-McKay theory.

He wasn't in the SG-1 episode "Threads."

You're right. I meant Moebius, not Threads.
