Here's another attempt at this story in its entirety. Disregard the other posts. Those are mistake posts
This is my first stab ever at Stargate Fanfiction. Episodes involving Martouf/Jolinar and the Tok'ra are my favorites. So this deals with them and goes into the show, Also as a postscript, the picture at the end of my post has nothing to do with Stargate. It's a picture for a western from the sixties I like.
Summary: Set during the show "Stargate SG-1," Jack "O'Neill's adopted daughter finds out some startling revelations about her past.
**********************************************Thw dark night was foggy and cool, but the breeze had no effect on the small child wrapped in the purplish-pink head scarf. At two, as long as the child was warm and safe she was happy. Also the fact that she was sedated contributed to the cold not affecting her.

The child's mother, Rosha, felt tears slip down her face as she carried her child in her arms. When she had left on her mission she had never forseen the Goa'ulds trying to kill her child.

She pressed Malena's light-brown head into her shoulder while she wondeed what her husband, Martouf, would say when he found out that the System Lords wanted to kill their baby. At least Malena would have no memories of this, she thought.

Jolinar, the Tok'ra inside Rosha, thought it was a good idea as well. At least she didn't try to talk Rosha out of it. The Tok'ra thought that all children were special and unlike the Goa'uld didn't kill their children as soon as they were born. The Goa'uld did that because the child had all the knowledge of the Goa'uld homeworld and the secrets behind their technology.

Rosha stopped in fronf of a building, her mind coming back to the task at hand. Malena stirred slightly in her sleep. That simple movement nearly caused Rosha to lose her self-control and walk away, never giving her baby up to the occupants of this world.

Rosha, with great willpower, put Malena down, put her wedding ring in a fold of her veil, and wrapped it around Malena. After a quick kiss and a knock on the door Rosha walked swiftly away into the shadows, trying not to look back.
**********************************************
Martouf waited expectantly for Rosha and his daughter. He had missed both of them so much he thought thjat sometimes he heard Malena giggle or felt Rosha bury her head in his chest.

Martouf watched as the Chappa'ai activated and Rosha came through, without their child in her arms.

"Jolinar, where's Malena?" Martouf's Tok'ra, Lantash, asked, grabbing Rosha by the shoulders.

"The Goa'uld tried to kill her. I hid her," Rosha said in Jolinar's voice.

Martouf looked stunned. Was it possible that Ra would try to kill a little girl? Martouf's little girl? She was only two years of age and no threat to anyone.

"Where is she, Rosha?" Martouf asked, dizzily.

"You are never to know, my love. Just know that she is safe. The Goa'uld will never hurt her," Rosha said, tears falling as she cupped Martouf's face.

Martouf nodded and silently wept with his wife over losing their daughter.
**********************************************
10 years later...

Megan O'Neill felt the cool wind whip her long, light brown hair around her tanned cheeks. Megan was looking forward to the company coming tonight. Out of all her father's business associates Captain Samantha Carter was the most interesting. Murray and Daniel Jackson were nice, but Murray rarely smiled and Daniel only liked history.

Also something about Murray gave Megan this strong dislike It was something she couldn't put her finger on.

Megan braked her bike and put it on the porch. After picking up her backpack, loaded with books, she entered the house, slamming the door loudly.

"Dad! I'm home!" Megan shouted, dropping her backpack on the wood-paneled floor. After her brother's death when she was nine and her parent's divorce she had grown to love this house that Dad had picked for them to live in. Sometimes she still missed her mom, but Dad had said that Mom was trying to recover from Charlie's death. That had to be true since Sara O'Neill hadn't seen her daughter in three years.

Sam came into the hall, a smile on her face. The smile dropped as soon as she saw Megan.

"Hi, Sam. How are you?" Megan asked, feeling slightly disarmed at Sam's frown.

"I am well," Sam said, her words sounding forced. Megan felt hurt. It was as if Sam didn't know her or if Megan had done something to make her angry.

"Are you mad at me, Sam?" Megan asked, pulling two schoolbooks out of her bag.

Sam's face cleared into a smile. "No. Of course not. I've just had a hard day," Sam said, sounding like her old self.

"I understand. It happenes to the best of us," Megan said, squeezing Sam's hand gently.

Sam smiled faintly and let Megan kiss her cheek gently before she walked away to find her father.
**********************************************
Jolinar watched as the girl as she walked away. When she had taken a new host she had never thought she'd see Malena again. And as she had predicted Malena didn't remember her.

Martouf, I found her. I found her, Jolinar thought, feeling the pain as she watched Malena hug Jack O'Neill. She found herself glad that Martouf wasn't here to see his daughter hug another man and call him her father.

In a sense she looked like Martouf, but she could see Rosha as well. She had Martouf's light brown hair color and mouth shape. The rest of the features were Rosha's; the shape of the face; the blue eyes; even the shape of her hands.

Martouf's mouth shape was more evident though when she laughed as she was doing now. Jolinar felt relief. Malena was safe and oblivious. When this war ended she and Lantash would take her back, but now was not the time or place for it.
**********************************************
Megan sat at the kitchen table with her advanced algebra. She hated algebra, but her teacher said that her intellect was higher than that of a college student. And she was right. Somehow math was one of her best subjects.

And how that had happened was still a mystery to her. Her father and mother hated algebra as much as she did. Megan looked back at the polynominals she was learning in class. Somehow the first time on figuring it out had made it click in her mind and it all made sense. Megan was so busy solving the polynominals that she didn't notice Sam sitting down next to her.

"What are you doing, Ma- Megan?" Sam asked, startling Megan so that she jumped out of her chair.

"Sam, you scared me!" Megan said, taking deep breaths to control her jangled nerves.

"I am sorry. What are you doing?" Sam repeated her question, taking Megan's hand in hers.

"Algebra. Somehow, even though I hate math, I got it. Math is a total waste of my time," Megan said, blowing a strand of light-brown hair out of her blue eyes.

"It can't be that horrible, Megan," Sam said, smiling gently.

''You have to say that, Sam. You are the scientist and enjoy physics. I can't envision ever liking science or math," Megan said, writing out the last problem and answer on her paper and shutting the book.

"What would you rather do?" Sam asked, her blue eyes boring into Megan's.

"Sam, you know what I like to do. I'd rather read or study history," megan said, feeling unnerved. For one thing Sam never looked at her as if she didn't know anything about Megan and for another she already knew about the history.

"I am sorry. As I have said I have had a hard day," Sam said, smiling apologetically.

"Like I said, I understand, Sam. I have those every day," Megan said, standing up and walking to the sink for a glass of water.
**********************************************
Jolinar literally felt like kicking herself. Why didn't she think to ask Samantha about what Malena liked? The genetic memory that had threatened her daughter at two had enhanced her intellect beyond that of other girls on this planet.

Of course if the Goa'ulds found out that Malena was here her daughter was as good as dead. This planet was no longer an option for protecting her daughter. The sooner she got Malena to the Tok'ra homeworld the better.

Megan rode her bicycle home the next day, enjoying the ride downhill. The laughter bubbled up until it overwhelmed her. She had gotten an A in fractions, her father was back from his top-secret mission, and she had just checked out a book on the wives of King Henry VIII. Life was absolutely perfect.

If only Sam was okay. Last night Sam's behavior was odd and it hadn't anything to do with her mission. Sam surely didn't think that Megan could be that stupid to buy that excuse. Being tired had nothing to do with that intense glare Sam kept casting her.

Megan was so wrapped up in her train of thought and worry for Sam she didn't notice the car coming down the street until the car was just inces from hitting her.

She gasped as she looked at the car. Her face flused, slightly embarrassed. She moved her dark blue eyes to the driver. It was Sam! "Sam! Sam, I'm sorry! I didn't know it was you!" Megan said, feeling the need to apologize.

"It's all right, Megan. I was not paying attention," Sam said, her eyes boring into Megan's.

"I better go. I'm sorry again," Megan said, kicking the bicycle brake up with her foot.

What happened next Megan couldn't explain or possibly understand. Sam's eyes took on a funny yellowish glow. She grabbed Megan by the wrists and jerked her off the bike.

"Sam, what are you doing?" Megan asked, trying to keep the fear out of her voice and taking deep breaths as well.

"Be quiet!" Sam ordered in a voice that wasn't Sam's. The voice was deep and slightly distorted. She jerked Megan towards the car so hard that Megan winced.

"Sam, you're hurting me," Megan said, hoping that Sam would ease her vicelike grip on her wrists.

Sam turned to look at her. Her eyes were like mirror glass, Pain was an emotion clearly visible on her face. Sam loosened the grip somewhat, but it was still firm. Sam opened the car door and pushed Megan into the car.

After Sam got in and started the engine. Megan felt it was safe to ask a question. Who are you? Where are you taking me?" Megan asked.
**********************************************
Jolinar felt her heart twist at the fear in Malena's voice. Malena didn't know why she was being forced to come along. The host was also hating this as much as Malena did.

"Why are you doing this?" Malena asked, her voice turning to panic.

"I won't hurt you," Jolinar said, looking at Malena briefly.

"What do you want with me?" Malena asked, some of the panic leaving her vocie.

"You are going to have to trust me. I won't let any harm come to you," Jolinar said.

Malena stopped her questions, much to Jolinar's relief. Unlike Cassandra, at the hospital, Malena wasn't showing as much fear. Of course that other girl had a reason. The Goa'uld had used the childe and sent her as a bomb through the stargate.

After she got Malena to the palnet that the Tok'ra were hiding on she would explain to her who she was. Of course when Martouf found out he would also help explain that to their daughter as well.

Megan tried to run to catch up with Sam inside the base. Megan had heard of Cheyenne Mountain. It was a base where top-secret missions were run by the Air Force.

After Megan had dressed in the clothes Sam had indicated she pulled down the green drab hat and followed Sam, wondering what was going on.

"Sam, I don't think I should be here," Megan murmued just loud enough for Sam to hear as she noticed Daniel Jackson, her father's friend, down the hall.

Sam glared at her to shut her up. "I thought we were going to relocate the refugees from Nasya!" Sam exclaimed in a voice of panic. To Megan's relief it was Sam's voice this time.

Megan looked first at Sam and then at the man next to Daniel. Jaffa! It was Murray and he was a Jaffa! Now Megan knew why she had a strong distrust of him. But then again she didn't know why she disliked Jaffas or how she had come up with that name for him.

Megan pulled the issue hat down further, hiding her dark blue eyes. "We're on our way, Sam. Jack says there's no need to hurry," Daniel said, confusion in his eyes.

Sam gave a frustrated growl as she walked away in a hurry, grabbing Megan roughly and dragging her down the corridor. "You're not going to get away with this," Megan said, trying to match her steps with Sam's.

Sam looked at her briefly, a small glimmer of tears and an unknown emotion filing her eyes before she walked down the hall, pulling Megan along as if she had not said anything.

Megan and Sam entered a room that was very large with a huge ring of metal before a metal ramp. Long observation windows overlooked the room. Megan looked at the ring in total fascination. "Chappa' pi," She murmered softly to herself without thinking who might have heard her.

Again she felt confused. What was a Chappa' pi? and how did all this somehow felt familiar?

This confusion was shortlived as the blast doors opened and in rushed; her father! Megan felt confused and relieved all at once as he injected Sam with a syringe of clear liquid.

"What was that?" Sam asked, as she pulled the syringe out of her arm.

Megan looked on with astonishment as the tranquilizer apparently had no effect on Sam. Megan ripped the hat off her head and looked up at her father. Jack looked at his daughter in barely disguised shock.

"Dad!" Megan exclaimed, trying to break loose from Sam.
**********************************************
Jolinar watched the scene in dismay. This wasn't what she had wanted to happen. Malena's fighting her wasn't helping the situation either. She had inherited Martouf's stubborness. One of the qualities that made Jolinar love him. She could easily love the stubbornness in Malena as well, but now wasn't the time.

She took the crude noisemaker the humans called a grenade out of the pocket of her jacket and pulled Malena into a tight hug. Malena gasped against the vicelike grip holding her.

"Open the stargate! Now!" Jolinar demanded, holding the noisemaker in front of her and Malena.

"Daddy, don't do it! Don't open the Chappa' pi!" Malena practically screamed, still trying her best to break free from Jolinar's grip.

One of the soldiers pointing a rifle at them spoke up. "Sir, move out of the way! I can take her with one shot!" The Sergeant said.

"That's my daughter up there and she could drop the grenade any second!" O'Neill said, his eyes turning feral with rage. It was a look that Jolinar had seen in Martouf's eyes a few times and in a few friends of hers.

"Open the gate or we'll all die!" Jolinar said fiercely, looking at first her daughter, then O'Neill. O'Neill had grown to love Malena as his own and he wouldn't let any harm come to her. Jolinar hated doing this to her daughter, but she was stuck.

"Dad, don't do it!" Malena yelled, her voice hollow as if she were in a tunnel.

"Put it down," O'Neill ordered casually.

"Open the gate," Jolinar said just as casually.

"No. You don't want to die like us. And we are not going to open that stargate," O'Neill said, in a reasoning voice.

At that moment Jolinar felt weak and dizzy. The room spun before her eyes as she fell, Malena catching her. Her daughter took the noisemaker and handed it to O'Neill, her hand trembling violently.

Jolinar felt herself lose consciousness as she looked into Malena's dark blue eyes.Lantash, I tried to bring her home, was her last thought as she passed out.
**********************************************
Megan watched Sam pass out. After the SGC had carried her out of the room Megan ran to her father and felt his arms wrap around her in a strong, safe bear hug.

"Daddy, I was so afraid," Megan said, grabbing thick handfuls of Jack's green jacket.

Jack smoothed his daughter's light-brown hair, not telling her he was just as frightened.

"It's all right, Baby. You are safe now," Jack said, trying not to reveal that his insides were quaking at the thought that she could have been killed.

Megan raised her head from Jack's chest and looked around the gate room; her blue eyes not missing a thing. "So this is what you've been doing for a year, Daddy," Megan said wryly.

In the debriefing room Megan watched with interest as her father argued with General Hammond and the base physician, Dr. Frasier.

"I didn't know! I was wasn't sure until I saw her lose it down there. Cassie was the one who first suspected it," Jack said, pacing around the room.

Megan wondered who Cassie was, but she wasn't able to ask before Dr. Frasier spoke up. "Cassandra still has traces of naquada in her blood. I think there might be some connection. A reaction that might be able to sense the Goa'uld," Dr. Frasier said, looking up from a file in front of her.

"How in the world did it get into Captain Carter?" General Hammond asked.

"And what did it want with me?" Megan asked, speaking up for the first time since the debriefing had started.

"Sir, I examined Captain Carter myself. There were no visible signs of entry. There was an abraison on the back of her throat, but it could have been anything. And why she singled you out as a hostage, Megan, I don't know," Dr. Frasier said.

"Are you saying it entered through her mouth?" General Hammond asked, shocked.

"It's not completely off-center, Sir. Couldn't a Goa'uld enter anywhere on the face? The Jaffas' are in the stomach," Megan said, looking at Teal'c briefly.

"I agree with Megan, Sir. The parasite's goal is to attach itself to the brain stem. The soft tissue at the back of the throat is as good a place as an to start," Dr. Fraiser said.

"Wait a minute, wait a minute. Oh lord," Jack said, closing his eyes and burying his face in his hands.

"What's wrong, Dad?" Megan asked, touching her father's arm, concern in her dark-blue eyes.

"She was giving some guy on that planet mouth-to-mouth. There was blood, but she said the guy had just bit his tongue before he died," Jack said, looking at first Megan and then Dr. Fraiser.

"If a Goa'uld could infest a human with no detectable physical signs then we're going to have to give all personnel who go through the gate an ultrasound or an M.R.I," Janet said reflexively.

"For now let's make sure we haven't let any more Goa'ulds through the gate this time," General Hammond said, in a tone of voice a person would be foolish to argue with.

"What would a Goa'uld be doing in a Nasyia man anyway? We didn't notice any of them acting Goa'uldish," Daniel Jackson said for the first time since the meeting started.

"Maybe it was a setup to get a spy into one of us," Jack said, shaking his head disgruntled.

"It is possible that the Goa'uld in Captain Carter has already placed a device of destruction on this base," Teal'c said, stepping forward.

"If there is any tampering here I want it found. Teal'c, I'd like you to help. You know better than anyone what to look for," General Hammond said, looking at first Daniel and Jack and then at Teal'c. Teal'c inclined his head in agreement.

"What are we going to do about Sam?" Daniel asked, causing everyone to look at him.

"We're going to get that thing out of her is what we're going to do!" Jack exploded.

"That didn't really work with Kawalsky. And if one of those NID guys, like Colonel Maybourne, find out about this then-" Daniel started .

"Well they aren't going to! Right, General?" Jack asked, looking toward his superior officer.

"Agreed. I'm not giving up on Captain Carter either. But until someone presents me with a viable option I'm putting you in charge of interrogating the prisoner," General Hammond said to Jack.

"With all due respect, Sir, I don't think that thing in her head is going to tell me anything," jack said contritely.

"Colonel, we need to know what that Goa'uld is doing here," General Hammond said. With those words he walked out of the room, everyone else staring at each other silently.

"Yes Sir," Jack muttered under his breath.

Megan looked at her father intently. She wondered if he would let her go with him to question the slug in Sam. Something about all this was familiar. Something in the Goa'uld's mannerisms struck a resonant chord in Megan.

Maybe the Goa'uld would tell her what it was that felt so familiar.

Megan sat next to her father in the base locker room, trying to get up enough nerve to ask her question.

"Dad?" Megan asked, hoping that Jack's melancholy mood wasn't so deep he wouldn't talk to her.

"What is it, Meg?" Jack asked, looking at her.

"Can I go with you when you question that thing?" Megan asked.

"I don't know, Meg. What if that thing tries to snatch you again?" Jack asked, his concern evident.

"I don't think it would try again, Dad. Also I don't think she wanted to hurt me this time. I think she just wanted me to go with her through the Chappa' pi," Megan said, trying to forget all about the pain in Sam's eyes.

"How do you know what the Goa'ulds call the stargate?" Jack asked, perplexed.

"I don't know. I just thought of the word when I looked at the stargate. It sounded right," Megan said, shrugging her thin shoulders.

Before Jack could answer Teal'c entered the room. "Teal'c," Megan said, standing up to look at the first Jaffa she had ever seen. She had the oddest feeling there was something about the Jaffa that she didn't like. She didn't know what it was.

"You are worried about Captain Carter, O'Neill," Teal'c said as if Megan hadn't spoken.

"Am I that obvious, Teal'c?" Jack asked in thin amusement.

"Indeed," Teal'c said, a bemused expression on his face.

Megan grinned briefly. Teal'c was humorous. An image of another Jaffa entered her mind. This one had the head of a falcon, but Teal'c had a good tattoo of a serpent. She didn't know if she could like Teal'c, but she had to ask.

"Teal'c, is there any hope for Sam?" Megan asked hopefully.

"I do not know, Megan O'Neill. The Goa'uld do not let their hosts go willingly," Teal'c said.

Teal'c, Megan, and Jack sat silently for a few minutes, thinking about that train of thought.

"I better go interrogate her," Jack said, rising.

"Can I come, Dad?" Megan asked, returning to her origional question.

Jack hesitated slightly and then nodded. "All right," Jack said, opening up the door of the locker room.

"O'Neill, remember when you talk to her don't think of her as your friend," Teal'c warned.

Easier said than done, Megan thought as she walked toward the containment area.
**********************************************
Jolinar stood in silence, staring at the soldier who stood guard over her. When she had come to she had found herself in this holding cell. All she had wanted was to leave and take her daughter with her, but even Malena fought her on this.

Jolinar looked up as the door to the room opened. O'Neill and Malena entered the room. Jolinar felt her heart quicken as she looked at her baby girl. Martouf would probably recognize her too if he saw her. Her facial features were a perfect blend of Rosha and Martouf.

Malena's eyes bored into hers with such deep intensity it gave her a start. Malena had Rosha's eyes, but the intensity in them was all Martouf's. It was almost like looking at him in a child's figure.

Jolinar smiled in spite of herself. After O'Neill had sent the guard away he spoke for the first time since entering the room. "You know you messed up, didn't you?" O'Neill asked.

Jolinar folded her arms over her chest and remained silent. It would be best if he thought she was a Goa'uld, even though the thought was distasteful.

"What are you doing here anyway? What did you want with me?" Malena asked, her voice slightly annoyed.

If only you could know, Malena, Jolinar thought, amused at that short temper fuse Rosha was well-known for was evident in the child. So Malena wasn't completely all Martouf. Jolinar backed into the shadows of the cell she was in.

"That's it. The silent treatment. And Megan, these bars are charged. Stay away from them," O'Neill warned.

"Aye, aye, Sir," Malena said, half-jesting.

"Very funny," O'Neill said grumpily.

"Sorry, Daddy," Malena said, flexing her bottom lip and raising and lowering her dark eyebrows.

"Uh-uh," O'Neill said dryly.

Jolinar waited impatiently. While she liked her daughter having a sense of humor she had to tell the Taur'i that they had to let her go.

"Please, what do you want?" Malena asked, turning to look at Jolinar.

"I am Jolinar of Malk-shur. You must let me go," Jolinar said, her eyes on Malena's.

"That's not going to happen. You are a Goa'uld," Jack said, causing Jolinar to look at O'Neill.

"Not all Goa'uld are the same," Jolinar said stiffly.

"Not from where we're standing. You tried to kidnap and kill me," Malena said, her voice chilled.

"I wouldn't have harmed you. I promise," Jolinar said, her stiff voice gone.

"What were you doing on Nasyia? And do you know about the man at the hospital that died. He was killed with a riband device," O'Neill said sternly.

Jolinar's face got really tense. "I was hiding on that planet. An Ashrak came there," Jolinar said.

"Who was his target?" Malena asked softly.

"I am," Jolinar said, after a few minutes of silence. It would be a good idea if she told these people why the Ashrak was hunting her. Maybe then Malena and the Colonel could see the reason why the had to let her go.

"Apparently Jolinar is wanted in Goa'uld town, Sir. He says he's being hunted by an Ashrak; a Goa'uld assassin," Jack said, after two hours of Megan and Jack interrogating Jolinar.

"She also says she's a member of the Tok'ra; the Goa'uld resistance," Megan said, closing her eyes wearily as an image of an underground tunnel flashed through her mind.

"Jolinar of Malk-sure led armies against the falcon guards of Ra. 10 years ago the guards nearly killed him and a child on a mission," Teal'c said.

"What about the Tok'ra, Teal'c?" Jack asked, interrupting the history lesson.

"They are illusive, Dad. Teal'c only Jaffa. He only knows them through Jaffa legend. Right, Teal'c?" Megan asked, looking up at the tall man.

"Indeed. I first heard of it through my old teacher, Master Bra'tac," Teal'c said, inclining his head to her.

"You know about the Tok'ra? How is that possible?" General Hammond asked Megan, surprise in his eyes.

"I don't know. I have never thought of these things before," Megan said, wrinkling her forehead in concentration.

"Only someone who has met the Tok'ra would possess this information. Did Jolinar of Malk-sure sany anything of it to you?" Teal'c asked.

"No. She just kept giving me pained looks. Teal'c, you said Jolinar was with a child 10 years ago. Maybe I remind Jolinar of that child," Megan said, playing with her hair.

"That could be true. Colonel, if that child is Jolinar's child having Megan on the base could be dangerous," General Hammond said, looking at Jack concerned.

"I think she'll be safe as long as Jolinar is in that cell," Jack said, ruffling Megan's hair gently.

"Very well then. I just hope your right, Colonel," General Hammond said.

"As long as I'm safe I better go do my homework. At least Jolinar let me keep my backpack," Megan said, picking up her olive green back, resting against a chair.

"You can go into the conference room and do your homework," General Hammond said, sounding like a kindly grandfather.

"Thanks, General," megan said, walking out of the room.

"General Hammond, I think that the Ashrak would try to kill Megan O'Neill," Teal'c said as soon as Megan was out of earshot.

"Why, Teal'c?" Jack asked, confused.

"O'Neill, your daughter is Tok'ra or born of Tok'ra hosts," Teal'c said.

"How do you know this?" General Hammond asked the same question he asked Megan.

"She knows information reguarding the Goa'uld. I also know the Tok'ra do not destroy their young. Children like that don't have anything to distinguish them as having parents as hosts; except the genetic Goa'uld memory." Teal'c said, without taking a breath.

"Me and Sara never knew where she came from. These people found her on the porch of their house," Jack said, digging his hands into the pockets of his jacket.

"If it is true that she knows information reguarding the Goa'ulds then we might need her," General Hammond said, looking at Jack.

"Yeah," Jack said, walking out of the office.
**********************************************
Megan felt a headache come on as she tried to work through mean, median, and mode. Now matter what had just happened with Jolinar one thing was true, she still hated math.

At that moment something-a memory or a daydream- slugged her mind.
*
A beautiful woman with flowing blonde hair and dark blue eyes, like Megan's, was before her. She smiled as she hugged Megan tightly.

"Jolinar, we have to activate the Chappa' pi," a handsome man with gray eyes and light-brown hair said, running past her. He talked in the Goa'uld voice.

"Take Malena," Jolinar ordered, thrusting Megan into the man's arms.

"Malena, rest your head on my shoulder," the man ordered, pressing her head against his shoulder.

"Yes, Mart," Megan answered in a high-pitched childish voice.

Then it hit her. The man's name was Mart and she felt a sense of security and safety.
*
Megan shook her head as she looked at the walls of the SGC. The memory of Jolinar and Mart stayed fresh in her mind. That little girl was her. She was sure of that. But she couldn't make heads or tails about being called Malena. Her name was Megan O'Neill.

Jolinar looked up as Daniel Jackson entered the room. From what she could gather Daniel didn't like the Goa'ulds. They had hurt him by taking his wife and brother-in-law as hosts.

"We know everything about you. Somehow Megan told General Hammond and her father all about the Tok'ra," Daniel said, noticing how Jolinar's cheek twitched visibly at the words 'her father.'

"O'Neill is not her father," Jolinar said stiffly, forcing the words out

"We know that already. Teal'c says she is the daughter of Tok'ra hosts. That was how she knew all about you and the Stargate," Daniel said.

"Your Jaffa friend is right. She is my daughter. I hid her among you to keep her safe fom Ra and the System Lords when they tried to kill her when she was two years of age. Does she know now?" Jolinar asked sadly, but reluctantly. If Malena had Martouf's stubbornness and Jolinar's temper than she hated to see how angry her daughter could get.

"No. Jack doesn't have any idea how to tell her. Teal'c says the Goa'uld kill their children while the Tok'ra don't," Daniel said. Pain entered Jolinar's eyes as she thought of the pain she and Martouf had gone through in giving Malena away. It was better that Malena was alive than dead by Ra, Apophis, or any other System Lord.

"It is true. The genetic memory of the Goa'uld is the only thing any child has of two host parents," Jolinar said, her eyes shining slightly with unshed tears.

"Why were you in the Nasyia man and why did you try to take Megan?" Daniel asked, changing the subject.

"You figure it out. You are not stupid, Daniel. I do not have to tell you anything," Jolinar said shortly, going back to her sullen quiet.

"Maybe not, but they aren't going to let you go. And Megan is not going to know why you tried to take her," Daniel said casually. Maybe too casually for Jolinar.

"If you let me go I can bring her back," Jolinar said reluctantly.

"Who? Sam?" Daniel asked.

"Don't be stupid Daniel! I mean Shar'e. I know where she is," Jolinar said seriously. Jolinar had heard of Apophis getting a host for Amounet, his wife. She was from Abydos and Jolinar knew exactly where she was.

Daniel's face blanced with pain. He swallowed deeply a few times. Jolinar understood the pain well. Rosha and Martouf had lost friends and family to the goa'ulds. Not to mention sending their child off to live among the Taur'i.

Daniel shook his head and walked toward the door, but not before Jolinar saw the tears at the corners of his eyes.

Megan tried to finish her science paper over the angry voices. Her father made it difficult to finish schoolwork. It seemed like he always did that on purpose.

It also seemed to come from General Hammond's office.Amazing. Even with the door shut he'll always yell where i can hear him, Megan thought sarcastically.

Her father's voice rose agin, sounding like fingernails scraping across a blackboard. Megan winced as she pulled out some earmuffs from her backpack and put them on. She contined her homework, enjoying the silence.

"She's lying to you, Daniel! She's trying to get us to let her go!" Jack protested angrily.

"Then what about Megan? She knew all about her. She said that Megan was her daughter. That she had to send her away to protect her from the Goa'ulds. We may have to trust her on this," Daniel said, as quiet as Jack was loud.

"No! I will never trust a Goa'uld!" Jack shouted.

'What about Megan? If she is related to Jolinar then it could cause trouble with the NID if they discover her genetic memory. Also the Tok'ra, if they exist, could want her back," Daniel said, treading on dangerous ground.

"They can't have her! She's my daughter!" Jack said, his face contorted with rage.

"You may not have a choice, O'Neill. If the Tok'ra or the Goa'uld find her here she may be taken from you anyway," Teal'c said, sounding like a mediator.

"Teal'c may be right. If she does have the Goa'uld memory she can help with the missions and the SGC. And we won't tell anyone except the president that she's really from another planet. Everyone will think she's just a little girl who is smarter than most adults," Geberal Hammond said.

"Yes, Sir. I just don't want her hurt when she does find out," Jack said, rubbing his forehead tiredly.

Jack walked into the area where Jolinar's cell was, causing Jolinar to look up in surprise.

"Where's the child?" Jolinar asked.

"Doing her homework. She probably doesn't want to be here anyway when and if I tell her who you are," Jack said offhandedly, causing Jolinar's lips to tighten.

"You cannot keep my daughter from me, O'Neill," Jolinar said stiffly.

"She is my daughter now and you can't have her," Jack said, his voice as hard as iron.

"She will wonder about her intelligence, O'Neill. She will want to know why she is different," Jolinar said, her voice sad.

"I know that. I just don't want her to get hurt. She will think that if you really cared and loved her you wouldn't have given her up," Jack said, looking Jolinar in the eye.

"I know how you feel, O'Neill, but I do love her. The Goa'uld would have killed her if I hadn't given her up. Children who have hosts for parents are normally hunted down and killed by the System Lords. It doesn't matter if the parents are Goa'uld or Tok'ra," Jolinar said, a glimmer of tears in her eyes.

"About Sam, why did you take her?" Jack asked, changing the subject.

"I will leave as soon as I find a new host. You will have Samantha back, I promise. But you have to let me go first," Jolinar said.

"That's not going to happen. And you can leave a host without killing them?" Jack wanted to know.

"Yes, with great difficulty. The Tok'ra have ways of removing the symbiote without hurting the host or the symbiote," Jolinar said, sighing deeply.

Jack thought of that for a few minutes before shaking his head. "We have been told this before. No, we won't let you go," Jack said, his back turning toward the door,

"Oh, lord, he's telling the truth! Jack, you have to believe him!" Sam said, in her voice this time.

Jack turned to look at her briefly. Sam's face was like her voice, panicked and shocked. It was the hardest thing in the world for Jack to walk away.

Megan finished the first chapter of Joan of Arc and rubbed her eyes tiredly. Since Jolinar had come her mind wasn't on her studies or books like it should have been. Flashes of Jolinar and Mart kept running through her head at random.

Megan shook her head as if to get rid of the images. She felt thirsty. Her throat was dry. She knew there was a water fountain outside the conference room. She stepped outside and took a long drink at the fountain, pushing heavy locks of her light-brown hair away from her mouth.

As soon as she straightened up she went back towards the conference room. At this point she didn't notice the soldier with the evil look in his eyes. He gripped her arm and dragged her toward the detention area, Megan fighting all the way.

Jolinar looked up as the door to the detention area opened violently. Asoldier jerked Malena so hard she fell down, her light-brown hair tumbling around her shoulders.

Jolinar winced slightly as the soldier pulled out a riband device and killed the guards watching her. Malena gasped in shock at the horrible sight. Jolinar felt regret as the Ashrak pushed her daughter toward the cell. She hadn't wished to involve Malena in the Tok'ra/Goa'uld battle. But coming back to this planet had involved her involuntarily.

Forgive me, Martouf, Jolinar thought as the Ashrak pushed Malena towards her and leveled the riband device at Jolinar's head.

"Jolinar, by order of the System Lords you and and this spawn die with dishonor," the Ashrak said, while Jolinar standing sullenly wrapped her arm around Malena's shoulders.

"Know this. I die with hope. My death will feed the fire that burns within the Tok'ra," Jolinar said proudly.

"You couldn't kill us anyway. My father is on this base and when he finds out what you are he 's going to burn that snake in your head," Malena said, her voice full of stiff bravado that even Jolinar heard.

"I haven't seen Lantash on this base. Your father cannot save you now," the Ashrak said, his lips curled in a sneer.

Malena and Jolinar looked at each other briefly. Jolinar gripped Malena's hand, giving it a tight squeeze. She would push Malena out of the door. It was the last thing Jolinar would do for this daughter she had to give up. Martouf would have backed her decision.

Now with Jolinar dead Martouf ad Malena had to find each other. Only Martouf could explain to Malena who she was and that Jolinar had loved her. Also if she could save the host, Samantha could find the coordinates for the Tok'ra. That act alone could bring Martouf and Malena together.

Jolinar released Malena's hand and placed both hands on Malena's thin shoulders, just as the riband device started to glow. Without a second thought Jolinar pushed Malena towards the open door, hoping that her daughter would get the hint. She did.

Practically falling down, amid shots from the riband device, Malena ran out the door without even looking back.

Megan ran down the hall, feeling a stitch in her side, but anable to stop running.Without her realizing it, someone's hands gripped her shoulders. Megan looked up into her father's concerned blue eyes.

"Dad, you have to help her! The Ashrak's killing Jolinar!" Megan said, collapsing into Jack's arms and breathing hard.

"What?" Jack asked, surprised and confused at what Megan was saying.

"The Ashrak tried to kill me and Jolinar pushed me out! She saved my life, but Daddy you have to help her. Please?" Megan asked, feeling the back of her eyelids.

Megan's face looked desperate. She only called Jack "Daddy" if she was frightened. Jack and Teal'c ran to the detention cell, Megan behind them, holding onto the loops of Jack's belt.

A flash of movement caused Megan to look behind her. The assassin was going down the hallway, not even noticing that he was passing one of the targets that he was going to kill.

"Dad, that's him," Megan pulled at Jack's belt, causing Jack to stop and look.

Jack looked at the retreating soldier. He looked like any other Air Force officer, but Megan looked agitated. "Teal'c, go get him," Jack ordered.

"Yes, O'Neill," Teal'c said, running down the hall.

Jack and Megan ran toward the detention area, stepping over the felled guards. Megan's heart nearly stopped at the sight. Sam's prone form lay there without movement, A deep pain entered Megan's chest as she looked at the horrible sight.

"Jolinar! Jolinar!" Megan screamed as she stooped beside her, and gripping her shoulder started to shake her.

Jack stooped next to his daughter and placed his hand on Sam's wrist. There was a pulse, but it was faint.

"Dad, help her. She can't die like this. She saved my life," Megan said, looking up at her father, a look of anguish in her dark-blue eyes.

Jolinar had said that her original host, before the Nasyia man, was Megan's real mother. Was it possible that Megan remembered Jolinar without realizing it and loved her?

Jack touched his daughter's head, wanting to hold her while she looked panicked over the death of someone she used to know. Jack picked up a communicator. "Get a medical team down here," Jack ordered.

Dr. Frasier and a team of medics entered the cell just a few minutes later with a gurney. Megan followed the gurney as her father ent to the gateroom. As Megan entered Dr. Frasier was giving Sam CPR.

"Dr. Frasier, the Goa'uld is trying to live," one of the nurses commented looking at the monitor that showed Sam's life signs and that of Jolinar's.

Dr. Frasier gave an order that Megan didn't understand. Holding her breath she watched as the medic gave Sam a shot of clear liquid.

The pulse picked up on Sam's end while Jolinar's weakened. Sam opened her eyes weakly.

"Jolinar?" Megan asked, coming over to look into her friend's eyes.

"No. It's me. He saved my life," Sam said weakly.

Megan felt a pain of grief as Jolinar's life signs flatlined. The Tok'ra was dead before Megan could ask how he had known her and why Megan had memories of Jolinar at a younger age.
************************************************** *********
The next three months proved interesting in Megan's life. After finding out about the SGC Megan had become an unofficial member of SG-1 and Stargate Command. The Tok'ra genetic memory proved to be a valuable asset on missions. Of course no one had told her yet about her relation to the Tok'ra.

The downside with each piece of information that she remembered was that her memories came with it. Often at night she would have memories about Jolinar and Mart she would wake up crying.

Three months after Jolinar had died saving Sam Sam had started to have dreams as well.

Jack, megan, Sam, Teal'c, Daniel, and General Hammond all sat together as Sam tried to explain her latest dream, which Dr. Frasier had monitored.

"You don't think it was just a dream?" Jack asked, skeptically. So far he didn't believe that Sam could dream about Jolinar and the Tok'ra.

Apparently he wouldn't believe me either if I told him about my dreams, Megan thought wryly, playing with her burnished brown hair. In the past few months her brown hair had turned coppery from being outside so much.

"Yes Sir. It was real. I could tell," Sam said adamantly.

"You could tell?" General Hammond asked, the look on his face just as skeptical as Jack's.

"Yes Sir. I don't know how exactly, but I could tell," Sam said, holding on to her stubborn affirmation.

"So we're supposed to buy whatever this is?" Jack asked, causing Megan to bristle loike a porcupine.

"Yes, Dad. I believe Sam when she said she dreamed it," Megan said stoutly.

"O'Neill, when a Goa'uld infests its host, they think alike. It is possible that portions of Jolinar of Malk-shur remain in Captain Carter's mind," Teal'c said, sounding logical.

"He's right, Dad. Right now Sam's memories of Jolinar and my knowledge of the Tok'ra from three months ago are all we have to go on. We have to see if they are at the coordinates Sam saw in her dream. Jolinar wanted me to know something. I have to know what it was," Megan said, practically pleading Jack with her dark-blue eyes.

Every adult looked at each other worriedly. They had all sworn not to tell Megan about where she really came from. If they were to form an alliance with the Tok'ra she would find out about her real parents.

"They may not be there any longer, Megan. These Tok'ra were on the run. They may be in trouble. Now, if we want to find them again, we should find them before they move on. They may still be at these coordinates," Sam said.

"Now, you said thier eyes glowed. Are you really sure that these Tok'ra are what Jolinar said they are? I mean, good guys, for lack of a better word?" Daniel asked, jumping into the conversation.

"Yes," Sam and Megan both said at the same time.

"Yes? Just yes? Could the both of you elaborate a little?" Jack asked.

"I'm sorry, Colonel. I know it's hard to understand. I don't really understand it myself, but I am sure. I...I just know," Sam said, hesitating slightly.

"Same here, Dad. It's like when Sam and I started spouting off knowledge about the sarcophagus when we were in those mines. I don't know how I know this, but I do," megan said, backing Sam with her approval.

"According to Jaffa legend the Tok'ra are the Goa'uld resistance. Their stated goal is the destruction of the System Lords and a change in the ways of the Empire. They are hunted and despised by the Goa'uld," Teal'c said.

"Yes! My kinda guys!" Jack shouted, causing Megan to grin slightly. Megan was quieter than Jack by nature. She would only grin and raise her eybrows slightly when he said something sarcastic.

"General Hammond, if I may. My vision, and what Megan says she knows of the Tok'ra,is the only lead we have to go on. Shouldn't we at least check it out before they move on?" Sam asked.

"Colonel?" General Hammond queried.

"General?" Jack asked, his eyes looking worried as he looked at his daughter sitting next to Sam.

"i'm prepared to send SG-1 , and Megan, through to the coordinates Captain Carter have seen, if you agree," General Hammond said, ignoring the worried look on Jack's face.

"Colonel, I know you are skeptical about these things, but I am confident that Megan and I are right on this one," Sam said, trying to make Jack feel better.

"Let's check it out," Jack finally said, feeling defeated. If Megan found out about the Tok'ra he hoped they wouldn't try to take her away from him.

Megan carefully tucked the bottoms of the military-issue green pants into the boots she was wearing. The uniform she wore was too big and it would only fit if she tucked in her black shirt and the pants legs into her boots.

The next part of the uniform was easier. a bullet-proof vest and a green baseball hat finished the ensemble. Megan scooped up her braided and put it up in the hat. It made her look like a twelve-year-old boy, but that was what she had intended. It also made her look like a very small member of SG-1.

Megan walked out into the hallway where Jack, Daniel, Sam, and Teal'c came down the hall in a group with pistols, machine guns, and Teal'c's staff weapon.

"Colonel, is it all right if I catch up with you?" Sam said to Jack as they made their way to the gateroom.

"We leave in ten," jack reminded her.

"All I need is five," Sam said, as she walked off in another direction.

Jack walked silently, his hand on Megan's slim shoulder. With each move it was as if Jack's hand tightened.

"Dad, are you all right? You look scared," Megan said, looking up at her father.

"I'm fine, Kid. Why do you ask?" Jack asked tightly.

"Dad, you don't want to go to the planet where the Tok'ra are. And all of you have been giving me strange looks since Jolinar-" Megan started to say, but broke off abruptly.

"Megan, I love you. before this mission is over please remember that," Jack said, stroking Megan's face gently.

Megan didn't understand why Jack was being so cryptic. Since Jolinar had died Megan's life was full of questions. Why did she know about the Goa'ulds and their technology when she had never seen a Goa'uld, besides Jolinar, before?

The planet on the other side of the stargate was a barren desert. Megan looked around , hoping she might recognize some landmark. Besides the Chappa'pi and the DHD there was nothing recognizable in the sand.

"There is no evidence of footprints or tracks of any kind. If the Tok'ra were here they have not been near the 'gate in many days," Teal'c said, his dark eyes looking around, trying to see marks or footprints.

"Ah, where's that yellow brick road when you need it, eh Dorothy?" Jack aasked sarcastically to no one in particular.

"There is some sort of dunes over there," Sam said, pointing straight ahead.

Megan looked straight ahead, her dark blue eyes finally recognizing something familiar.

"Thsi way. I have this gut feeling this is it," Megan said, trying to scratch her sweaty forehead. She started to walk.

"Dunes it it," Jack said. Since Megan's Tok'ra memories had started to resurface no one would dispute her since she was always right about it.

They started a downhill walk, passing a broken MALP. Jack inspected it carefully.

'Worthless. no one's tread here in awhile," Jack said, with a tone of finality.

Megan looked around frantically, her blue eyes sweeping the desert. "They have to be here. Jolinar wouldn't have steered you wrong. Would he, Captain Carter?" Megan asked.

"The Tok'ra are known for their ability to mask their trails. They are, as you say, stealthy in their actions, Megan O'Neill," Teal'c said, by way of comforting her.

At that moment a group of figures in clothes the color of the desert planet poopped out of the groundm taking SG-1 by surprise.

"Yeah, stealthy would be a good word, Teal'c," Daniel said as he looked at all the Tok'ra men surrounding them.

"Good guys or bad guys?" Jack asked, pointing his machine gun at what appeared to be the leader. The leader was stocky and had a sunburned tan. He looked to be in his fifties.

"I am Cordesh. We mean you no harm. But I warn you if you make any agressive moves we will fire on you," Cordesh warned.

"Same here," jack said in a show of bravado.

"Dad, don't provoke them," Megan said, touching Jack's arm with her gloved hands as she looked at the staff weapons and zats that the Tok'ra were holding.

"I would listen to the young one here. He has common sense. We have the advantage. There are more of us," Cordesh said laughing.

"That is true," Jack conceded, looking at Megan. Her boy's disguise had worked! The Tok'ra hadn't recognized her. And she didn't look as if she recognized them.

"This obe is a Jaffa! Apophis sect!" A man said angrily, noticing Teal'c. Megan found herself fascinated by his eyes. In spite of the angry look he was giving Teal'c, he was quite handsome with beautiful gray eyes, in Megan's opinion.

"I am no longer in the service of Apophis," Teal'c said, sticking up for himself.

"Who then are you in service to?" The same man wanted to know.

"I am allied with these, the Tau'ri, in battle against Apophis," Teal'c said, indicating his companions.

"And all other Goa'uld," Daniel chimed in.

"Be careful, Daniel," Sam warned.

"Why?" Daniel asked.

"Because they are Goa'uld," Megan said, her voice sounding older with each word said than in the last few minutes.

At that moment the group of men's faces turned angry."Do not call us that! We are not Goa'uld!" Cordesh said, his eyes glowing and his voice distorting.

A few moments later the group of Tok'ra and SG-1 stared each other down, neither group making a move. But the groups still held their weapons trained on each other.

"You know in some galaxies, this is called loitering. How long do ya think we can keep it up?" Jack asked, in an attempt to break the mood.

Sam looked at the handsome Tok'ra man with the gray eyes. He looked back at her, the anger over Teal'c and being called a Goa'uld out of his eyes.

"Martouf?" Sam asked out of the blue. Megan started, taking a closer look at the Tok'ra's face. She gasped visibly. It was the same man, Mart, from her dreams. Of course it made sense. Mart had to come from a name like Martouf.

"I do not know this woman," Martouf said, his eyes looking alarmed at the intensity of Megan and Sam's stares.

"But I'm right, aren't I? That's your name, Martouf," Sam asked, looking at first Megan and then Martouf.

"It is. How do you know me?" Martouf asked, curious.

"I don't., but I know your daughter and someone who did. Their names are Malena and Jolinar of Malk-shur," Martouf glanced at Cordesh. Both men looked surprised and shocked.

"Where is Jolinar?" Cordesh asked, walking toward Sam.

"He died saving my life and that of Malena's," Sam said. Megan gasped again as Sam's words took on new meaning. She WAS Malena. That meant that Martouf was her father and not Jack O'Neill. She found herself wondering how she had ended up with Jack instead of being here on this planet with Martouf.

"That's why we are here, to seek out the Tok'ra," Daniel said, waking Megan up from her train of thought.

"Assuming of course you are the Tok'ra," Jack said. Megan turned her dark eyes on him.

"And if we're not?" Cordesh asked.

"Well, I guess we all start shooting, there's blood, death, hard feelings...it'd stink," Jack said sarcastically.

"And if we are this thing you call Tok'ra?" Martouf asked. Megan looked at him. Her real father hadn't looked at her the way Jolinar had. Maybe the disguise she wore hid her too well.

"If you are indeed the Tok'ra of Jaffa legend, we should form an alliance," Teal'c said.

"I learned a lot from Jolinar. Enough to know that we could be good friends. And frankly, enough to know that you are the Tok'ra. Malena will vouch for that. She knows everything all ready," Sam said, looking at her young friend.

"I believe this one speaks the truth. Perhaps we should...just listen to what they have to say," Martouf said, looking at Sam with tenderness.

They all looked at each other and the Tok'ra as they all lowered their weapons.

"First where is my daughter?" Martouf asked, looking at all of them.

Megan's breath caught. He wanted to see her now? Why? Wasn't it enough that he knew that she was safe for the moment?

Martouf looked at each in turn. The young one turned her eyes from him. Cordesh had said that she was a boy, but Martouf could tell that wasn't true by the way she stood and had also noticed a few strands of hair blowing from under her head covering.

He was willing to bet that this girl knew his daughter. Jolinar had a closer relationship with Malena than he did. He loved his daughter just as much as Jolinar had, but he would go on missions for long stretches and not be able to come back in a long time.

He had very nearly missed his daughter's birth. He had come 15 minutes before Rosha had given birth. So either the girl was Malena or knew her. She was about the right age of Malena.

"Please. I have to see my daughter. Where is she?" Martouf then asked the woman who was host to Jolinar.

The woman walked over to the girl and stooped to her level. I'm sorry, Megan," she whispered, a pained look in her eyes.

"It's all right, Sam. I'm not mad at you," thw girl said, squeezing the woman's shoulder with her gloved hand.

The woman reached up and gently pulled the head covering off. Martouf felt his legs shake under him. This was Malena! And, judging by the look on her face, she knew it just as well as he did. She had his darker shade of hair and Rosha's dark blue eyes.

There was also another way to tell this was Malena and that was the serious look in her eyes. It was a look common among the Harcesis, otherwise known as children of host parents.Malena's penetrating gaze bored into his eyes. It was almost as if she were judging him at that moment and it hurt.

"Well that's better, isn't it? So take me to your leader," the Tau'ri commander said wrapping his arms around Malena's shoulders.

Malena looked up at the Tau'ri commander and rolled her eyes as if he were stupid. "Dad, you've been watching "Mars Attacks" again, haven't you?" Malena groaned.

"About as much as you have, Kid," the tau'ri said, puling Malena's hair gently.

"Yeah, except I'd never say 'Take me to your leader.' that's too cliche. Even for you," Malena said, raising her dark eyebrows slightly.

"Ha, ha," the Tau'ri said, his voice not the least amused.

"I will take you to whom you seek. But there is one condition. You must leave your weapons with us," Cordesh said.

"Ah, no," the human said quickly.

"Dad-" Malena started to say.

"They won't hurt us, Colonel," the woman stated, looking at Martouf.

"They're Goa'ulds, Carter," the Colonel said, holding firmly to his opinion of them. An opinion that irritated Martouf to no end. After al these years of being a host to Lantash and he still hated it when people called him a Goa'uld.

"They won't hurt us, Dad," Malena said, her jaw tightening as she glared at the Colonel.

"And you both, what, feel this?" The Colonel asked sarcastically.

"No. I can remember," the woman said. Martouf looked at her, then looked at Malena. Malena's memories were fragmented, but she remembered. She remembered being safe with him.

"O'Neill, if they are the Tok'ra, we are in no danger," the Jaffa said, looking around at the Tok'ra.

"If you're asking for opinions, I vote we take the chance," the other man said.

"I'm with the others, Daddy. But it's not for me to say. You're my father and you outrank us," Malena said. Martouf's cheek twitched slightly as she called the Tau'ri Colonel her father.

"Okay. But I want it understood thjat we are doing this in the spirit of future relations. I expect us to be treated as such," the Colonel said, finally giving in.

The group gave up their weapons to the Tok'ra. Malena looked at Martouf as she gave up her bulky heavy vest and picked up the head covering that was removed from her head.

All the Tok'ra men, except Martouf and Cordesh, left. Martouf looked at each in turn, his gray eyes finally stopping on Malena.

"Please, come closer together," Martouf said, motioning them toward him and Cordesh.

"Why?" The Colonel asked suspiciously.

"Jack," the other man said instantly.

"Daddy," Malena said, placing a restraining hand on the Colonel's broad arm.

"It's okay, Colonel," the woman said in a consoling way.

"Oh, is it?" The Colonel asked sarcastically.

"Yes it is. The transport rings are right here. That much I remember, Dad," Malena said, gripping the Colonel's hand. The rings came out of the ground and surrounded the group, taking them to an underground subterranean crystal cave.

Megan looked around as the rings went back up. This was the place in her dreams. She looked up at Martouf and Cordesh. They had removed their hats and Cordesh was walking down the hall.

"This way," Cordesh said, without turning to look at them.

Megan instantly felt the oddest feeling. There was something about Cordesh that she didn't like or trust. Something that was dishonest. Maybe it's just my imagination, Megan thought, writing her feelings off completely.

It was then that she noticed that Martouf was looking at her. Her real father's intense, kind gaze made her feel like running to catch up with SG-1. It was like he understood how she felt.

So as not to look at him, she all but ran to catch up with the others. Sam and Teal'c were loking around at the caverns.

"This looks just like the place in my dream. But that was on the planet that they-we-were fleeing," Sam commented, looking at the floor, walls, and ceiling.

"Me too. I thought I only imagined this place when I thought of it a few months ago," Megan said, her sharp blue eyes looking around. She noticed Martouf going into another room at the end of the corridor. At least now he wasn't looking at her.

"It is said throughout the legend of the Tok'ra, when they arrive on a planet they go deep underground. It is said they possess the technology to actually grow tunnels," Teal'c said. Jack removed his sunglasses and looked around.

"This looks like some sort of crystal material, so theoretically it could be grown," Sam said, her voice turning scientific. As they reached the end of the corridor Jack saw Martouf and Cordesh.

"Apophis had me searching for tunnels such as these for many years. We never found them. It is believed when the Tok'ra move on, the tunnels are destroyed," Teal'c said, not noticing that Jack's attention was elsewhere.

"Carter, what's the story with this Martouf? Besides him being my daughter's real father?" Jack asked Sam, as they made their way to where Martouf was.

Sam looked at Martouf just as Megan did. "I'm not sure. I got the feeling I know almost all these people, but my memories of Martouf are the strongest. It's the same with Megan," Sam said, Jack nodding his head.

Martouf came over to them. Megan looked up at him. Without smiling it was easy to see the resemblance between them. There was no mistake. Martouf was her father whether she wanted it or not.

"please, come this way," Martouf said, with a slight smile as he ushered them into a room.

Megan was the last to enter the room. Martouf watched her with interest, his dark eyebrows raising much as Megan's would have towards Jack's sarcasm.

A slight movement behind Martouf caught Megan's attention. A boy of sixteen with reddish-blond hair in need of a haircut. "Michael?" Megan asked, feeling her mouth go dry.

Michael was an Air Force cadet that had gone missing on a mission nearly a year ago. At the time everyone told her he was missing in action and he could be dead, but now Megan could see that was not true.

Michael turned. He wore the same outfit as the other Tok'ra men. His blue eyes were dark and shone in the tunnels. "Megan?" Michael asked.

Before Megan could say anything, a loud voice called to her from the next room. "MEGAN!" Jack's voice thundered.

Megan winced slightly as she walked into the room, blushing to the roots of her coppery-brown hair. "Hence, his nickname 'Bullhorn,'" Megan muttered under her breath.

She heard a snort behind her. Martouf's face looked calm. She saw Michael, practically turning purple trying not to laugh at the muttered insult. Megan grinned at him, causing him to lose his self-control and burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Megan walked over to the group and waited for what seemed like minutes. a woman with dark hair and wearing a purple and black dress sat in a corner waiting, it seemed, for them.

"Greetings," Garshaw said, walking toward them. Martouf saw a flicker of recognition in both Malena and the female captain's eyes.

"Hi," The Colonel said, nodding at Garshaw.

"You are Garshaw of Belote?" The Jaffa questioned in surprise.

"I am," Garshaw said simply.

"She is the most hunted Goa'uld of all time," the Jaffa informed his companions.

"Teal'c, I don't think they want to be called that," Malena said, looking at first Garshaw and then Martouf.

"The Harcesis is right. We prefer you not to refer to us as Goa'uld," Garshaw said.

"The what?" Daniel asked, looking at Malena.

"The Harcesis, Daniel Jackson. Harcesis children know all the secrets of the Goa'uld. They are forbidden and hunted down by the System Lords. Megan O'Neill is a Harcesis. She may not know everything, but it will come to her," Teal'c said, a warm smile on his face.

"Is she in danger then with us, Teal'c?" Daniel asked, looking nervous.

"Indeed," Teal'c said.

"We got earlier that you don't want to be called Goa'ulds. What should we call you?" The Colonel asked, changing the subject and touching Malena's shoulder. Malena looked up at the Colonel and grinned briefly.

"Dad, don't worry. I'm safe here," Malena said, grinning wryly.

"I have to worry about you. That's the advantage I have as your father," the Colonel said, hugging Malena to him in a tight embrace.

"I assume you are from the first world, the Tau'ri. Is that correct?" Garshaw wanted to know walking up to the colonel.

"Yup," the Colonel said, looking around the group.

"Were you among those who rid the galaxy of the System lord Ra?" Garshaw asked.

"Yup, that's us, that...that...yeah, we're those," the Colonel said, stammering.

"Except me, Sam, and Teal'c. Teal'c was first prime to Apophis, Sam was working on a science project, and I was nine years old. I'm not a warrior," Malena said almost apologetically.

"We don't expect you to be a warrior, Meg," the Captain said, by way of support.

"Tell that to Dad," Malena muttered bitterly under her breath. A comment that Martouf heard clearly if no one else did.

"Then in a sense you are Tok'ra," Garshaw said smiling.

"Of course! Tok'ra. Tok...Tok Ra, against Ra! Thank you for sharing that," Daniel Jackson exclaimed, finally getting it.

"It's not that hard to get, Daniel. I knew that three months ago when Jolinar brought my memories of the Tok'ra back," Malena said, causing everyone to look at her.

"You knew and didn't tell me?" The colonel asked.

Malena looked at Martouf and then at the Colonel. "What was I supposed to say? I was busy running all over the galaxy finding cures for monster bugs, going to Abydos, and finding the Asgard. There was not a moment when I could say anything," Malena said shortly.

"She's right, Sir. She really didn't have much of a time to say anything," the Captain said, walking over to Malena and wrapping her arms around her thin shoulders.

"We still don't know what to call her," the Colonel said, indicating Garshaw.

"We too are Tok'ra," Garshaw said, inclining her head in a curtsy.

"Finally!" The Colonel said, nearly hitting Malena in the head while he gesticulated wildly.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," the Captain said. The look on Cordesh's face was anything but pleasure.

"I understand you were sent to us by Jolinar of Malk-shur. Please tell us how that came to be," Garshaw asked.

"Well, it, I, er...It's a long story. We were on this planet, Nasyia, and the Goa'uld were attacking. Jolinar's host was killed. So he jumped into me while I was trying to save his host," the Captain said, stumbling over the story.

Martouf felt a cold shock of grief enter his mind. It was the same grief when he found out that there was a probability that he would never see his daughter again. "Please, excuse me, did you say that Jolinar's Host was killed?" Martouf asked.

"Yes. I'm sorry," the Captain apologized, looking over at him.

"But Jolinar, he lived on?" Martouf asked hopefully.

"Ah, yeah, for awhile at least. Inside of me. Should I continue?" The Captain asked, uncertain as she looked at Garshaw.

"Please," Garshaw said simply.

Megan's eyes took in her surroundings as Sam related the story of Jolinar, without the part of where Jolinar used Megan to get through the stargate.

"So am I to understand you did not invite Jolinar to use you as a host?" Garshaw asked.

"That is correct. He did it in an emergency situation to escape an assassin," Sam said, very fast.

"Which didn't work considering the Ashrak tried to fry both of us at the same time," Megan said bitterly, standing up from where she sat next to Jack.

"What does the Harcesis mean by that?" Garshaw asked, looking at the concern on Martouf's face.

"The Ashrak found Megan as well. He tried to kill both her and Jolinar together, but Jolinar pushed her out of the cell we were in," Sam said, wrapping her arm around Megan.

"Then if you were not a voluntary host, then how do we know that you and the girl did not kill Jolinar?" Cordesh asked, causing Megan to close her eyes. After three months that gesture was common to SG-1. She did it when she was angry.

Megan opened her eyes and looked at Martouf. The anguish in her father's gray eyes was obvious.

"Um, well, because we didn't. I mean I guess you're going to have to trust us on that," Sam said.

"I'm incapable of killing anyone. My father won't even let me touch a gun. So I was unarmed when the Ashrak grabbed me and tried to kill me," Megan offered by way of explanation. Martouf's eyes locked onto hers lovingly. He believed her, but he was only one man among the Tok'ra.

"And why should we trust you?" Cordesh asked.

"You know something? I've been asking myself the same question. Why should we trust you? You are, after all Goa'ulds," Jack said, standing to his feet.

"Jack...!" Daniel started to say.

"Ah! Don't! We've done nothing but get interrogated here. Now are we prisoners? And are you Goa'ulds?" Jack asked, interrupting Daniel and turning to look at Garshaw.

"Dad," Megan said.

"J..." Daniel sarted to say.

"N..." Jack interrupted again.

"You are not and I have told you we are not Goa'uld!" Garshaw said angrily, her eyes glowing like that of the Goa'uld.

"I didn't... Why do you talk like that? And what's with the glowing eyes? Huh? Might it have something to do with a little reptilian activity in your head?" Jack asked, persistant in his stubbornness.

"Dad, stop," Megan said, grabbing Jack's arm in a tight grip.

"We have symbotic creatures within us, yes," Garshaw agreed with Jack.

"Well then!" Jack said.

"Dad, leave them alone," Megan said, looking at Martouf again. While she wondered why Martouf and Jolinar didn't want her, or why she defended him, she didn't want to lose him either or make him angry at Jack's questions.

"Why do you defend them, Megan?" Jack asked, stooping to look in Megan's eyes, which she averted quickly.

Megan looked up at Martouf. His gaze was warm and gentle. Maybe Martouf would understand her feelings when she didn't fully understand them herself. "I don't know. Honest I don't, Dad," Megan said, her voice small and hard.

"I do. Megan was born in these surroundings, Sir. She trusts the Tok'ra even if her memories are poor. Martouf is her father and she's as safe with him as she is with you," Sam said, squeezing Megan's shoulder.

Megan grinned faintly at Sam's explanation. "Well then, you can see how we might think you would be a danger to humans. You take humans as hosts," Daniel said, filling in Jack's thoughts.

"Goa'uld take hosts. Tok'ra do not. Ours wish to be so," Garshaw said, trying hard not to get angry.

"We have a truly symbotic relationship." Martouf said. Teal'c looked at Martouf, his eyes puzzled over the concept.

"Megan, do you know about the symbotic relationships between the Tok'ra?" Daniel asked, looking at Megan.

"I've been away from this too long, but yes. The goa'uld believe that nothing of the host survives, but that's a lie. We saw Shar'e on Abydos. She talked freely of her own accord before Amounet reappeared again. The Tok'ra are also proof that the host survives," Megan said.

"No offense meant, Megan, but why would any human volunteer to be a host for a Goa'uld?" Daniel asked, not wishing to hurt anyone's feelings.

Garshaw closed her eyes and opened them again. By looking at her they could tell that this was the host. "Perhaps I can... I can help you. I am Yosuuf. I am Garshaw's host. I speak freely without restraint or censor as Malena feels the Goa'uld's do to their hosts. All of us who serve as Hosts volunteer to do so freely," Yosuuf said, by way of explanation.

"Okay, well, maybe you can answer my question then. Why would any human volunteer for... for that?" Daniel asked reluctantly.

Yosuuf laughed merrily. "Well, with the blending I gain all of Garshaw's knowledge, her wisdom more than any human could ever attain. And my lifespan is twice what it would be without the blending. And for all this all I have to do is be her host," Yosuuf said, winding down the long speech.

"So you've kind of got a little faustian deal going here, selling your soul for immortality?" Jack asked. Sam looked at him along with Megan.

"Oh good grief," Megan muttered.

"What you understand as soul remains intact," Yosuuf said.

"There is also another reason why some people volunteer, Dad. They get sick with life-threatening illnesses and the Tok'ra symbiote can heal that," Megan said, speaking up.

"So this symbotic relationship is what makes the Tok'ra different from the Goa'uld," Daniel speculated.

"Yes," Yosuuf said.

"Yeah. I guess if you put it that way," Megan said, pushing a lock of hair out of her eyes. Even underground it was hot in here. How Megan could have forgotten the desert planets the Tok'ra hid on. She couldn't believe she had forgotten this.

"It is also this that has thwarted the Tok'ra's effors against the Goa'uld," Teal'c said. Daniel looked confused, yet again.

"Your Jaffa friend is correct. If you'd like to come with me, I will show you what he means," Yosuuf said, leaving the room. They walked down the hallway and into another room.

A very old woman was lying on a hard crystal bed. A couple of Tok'ra women were tending her by wiping her forehead. The way it looked she wasn't going to be alive long.

"Allow me to introduce Selmak," Yosuuf said, indicating the woman on the bed.

"I remember her. Almost everyone loved talking to Selmak. Jolinar went to her once for advice," Megan said, her eyes turning reflexive.

"What was the advice?" Jack asked, touching Megan's shoulder.

"Dunno. I was only two. I don't know everything, Dad," Megan said, her voice thick with annoyance.

"Her host's name is Saroosh. Malena is right about her wisdom. She is one of the oldest and wisest among us, an important leader for our cause. However she is unfortunately very ill and will soon die," Martouf said.

"How old is she?" Daniel wanted to know.

"203, I think, in a few days," Megan said, stooping to look closer at the woman's face.

"I'm sorry, I was under the impression that Goa'uld lived much longer than 200 years," Daniel said by way of apology as he looked at Yosuuf.

"Goa'uld do, the Tok'ra don't," Yosuuf said.

"That's because you don't use the sarcophagus, right?" Sam asked Martouf.

"That's correct. We believe to do so would drain the good from our hearts," Martouf said.

"That is correct. Megan O'Neill and Captain Carter told us that two months ago when we were slaves in a quarry," Teal'c said, remembering the mission when they found that out.

"Daniel, you should vouch for that. When that princess put you in the sarcophagus it nearly destroyed your kaldesh," Megan said, using the goa'uld word for soul.

"That's why our numbers don't grow large enough to defeat the massive forces aligned with the System Lords," Martouf said.

"Zero or negative population growth. Since you won't take new hosts by force, most of the time the goa'uld dies with the host," Sam said, shocking everyone with information that normally came from Megan.

"And this is what is about to happen to Selmak," Yosuuf said, indicating the old woman again.

"What about the children like me? If they are hidden, like I was supposed to be, couldn't you bring them out of hiding? With the knowledge of the Goa'uld Empire couldn't children like me fight them?" Megan asked, standing up and shaking out her foot that had fallen asleep.

"I wish we could, but the Harcesis children are vulnerable. You were not even supposed to come out of hiding, Malena," Martouf said, his voice kind but said.

"So all of you will just let Selmak die?" Megan asked boldly. Martouf was casting her sharp glances, but she didn't care.

"Unless one of you wishes to volunteer to serve as a host," Martouf said, his voice not revealing any irritation over Megan's boldness.

All of SG-1, except Megan and Teal'c, looked surprised at the offer. "I'm gonna pass on that," Jack said.

"Yes, although it does sound fascinating, I think it's a little too long-term for me," daniel said, giving a feeble excuse.

Megan looked at Selmak again. She felt sorry for the host and symbiote. "I'll do it," Megan whispered, gripping Selmak's hand.

"What?" Yosuuf asked.

"I said, I'll do it. I'll become Selmak's host," Megan said, swallowing hard.

"No, you won't!" Jack exploded, pulling Megan away from the bed and wrapping his arms around her.

"Yes, I will. You aren't my father. You can't tell me what to do," Megan said, without thinking.

Jack closed his eyes in pain. Megan then flused at what she had just said. "Dad, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that the way it sounded. You are the closest thing I have to a father," Megan said, feeling tears form at her eyes. She ran out of the room before the tears could fall.

Megan sat by the poolside in the Tok'ra conference room, tears falling unchecked down her face as Sam came running into the room, close to tears herself.

"Are you all right, Sam?" Megan asked, wiping her cheeks with the backs of her hands.

"I'm all right, Megan. What about you? You hurt Colonel O'Neill and Martouf's feelings just now," Sam said, looking at her friend carefully.

"I know. I don't know why I said that. Sam, it's like all my memories are hitting me full-force and I can't stop it," Megan said, turning back to look at the pool.

Sam scooped some water into her hands and rubbed them across her face. Meither one noticed Martouf behind them. He touched both of their shoulders gently.

Megan gasped at the touch and spun around to face her father just as Sam did. It was the first time that Martouf had acted like a father to Megan and it startled her. He backed away from them and held his hands up as if to show he didn't mean to scare her or Sam.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," Martouf apologized.

"You shouldn't sneak up on a person like that," Sam said shakily. Apparently Sam's memories were like Megan's. The memories were confusing.

"We didn't mean to upset you with the suggestion of becoming a host," Yosuuf said, looking at Sam as the rest of the Tok'ra and SG-1 walked in. The only thing wrong was that Jack wasn't looking at Megan.

"Well as long as you take no for an answer," Jack said sarcastically.

"Be assured that we have never forced a human to become a host. It goes against all that we believe in," Martouf said.

It was then that Jack looked at Megan, standing behind Martouf. "Yeah, well, you know Captain Carter didn't exactly invite Jolinar in. And he tried to kill Megan," Jack said, making a point.

"Yes Sir, but I believe he was sincere about wanting to leave me as soon as he found another host," Sam said, by way of explanation.

"Dad, Jolinar didn't hurt me. He wanted me to go through the Chappa'pi with him. Things just didn't go as he planned," Megan said.

"I'm curious, if you're not interested in becoming a host, then why did you seek us out?" Yosuuf wanted to know.

"To form an alliance," Daniel said.

"Yes, so you've said, but it's apparent that the thought of an alliance disgusts you," Yosuuf said, her voice getting hard.

"Wait a minute, you think by 'form an alliance' they mean they want to become hosts?" Megan asked, rising her eyebrows in shock.

"Well what other sort of an alliance could a non-blended human and a Tok'ra want to have, Malena?" Yosuuf asked, confused.

"Well, we do have a common enemy, how about friendship?" Jack asked, speaking for Megan.

"We could share information," Sam said.

"She's right. My Tok'ra memory only goes so far. And I'm sure it doesn't know the new things that have just developed in 10 years," Megan said, looking at Martouf and Yosuuf.

"We can engage in battle side by side," Teal'c said

Yosuuf closed her eyes. When she opened them she was Garshaw. "I do not believe you could be of any service to us. You are neither strong enough, nor advanced enough," Garshaw said arrogantly.

"We're not?" Jack asked.

"You are incorrect. It was these who destroyed two Goa'uld motherships," Teal'c said, by way of defending his friends.

"Count me out of that, Teal'c. You guys stopped Apophis that time. I had nothing to do with it," Megan said flatly.

"That was you? We had operatives who died aboard those vessels," Garshaw said, sounding angry.

"Oh boy," Daniel said.

"We were only defending our planet," Sam said, defending SG-1.

Garshaw closed her eyes again, Yosuuf coming back. "We didn't know that they had traveled to the Tau'ri. This information, it explains a lot. At least we know how and why our operatives died, and for that we are truly grateful," Yosuuf said apologetically, looking relieved.

"So maybe we can be of service?" Jack asked.

"Perhaps you are correct. I will try to convince the Council of Tok'ra to meet with you," Yosuuf said, turning to leave.

"Excuse me? Are we prisoners here?" Jack asked, calling Yosuuf back.

"Well, ah, until we decide what level of information to entrust you, um we cannot allow you to roam this facility freely. I'm sorry," Yosuuf said, by way of apology before leaving.

"Well, that's that. At least the Tok'ra aren't Goa'ulds. They would have killed us by now," Megan said, removing her jacket and sitting down.

"Megan, why did you argue with me back there? The only condition that you get to come with us on our missions is that you follow every order I give you," Jack said sternly.

"I know, Dad. I can only apologize so many times," Megan said.

Jack and Megan looked at each other. How long it would take for the rift from this latest argument to heal only Jack and Megan knew.

"Would you like to take a walk on the surface? You and Malena?" Martouf asked, looking at Sam and Megan. Of all the Tok'ra, besides the guards, he was the only one who hadn't left the room.

"What?" Jack asked.

"Why?" Megan and Sam both asked at the same time.

"I would like to hear more of Jolinar of Malk-shur," Martouf said, his voice warm and friendly.

"Okay," Sam said, her eyebrows raised.

"Sure," Megan said, a copy of Martouf's grin spreading across her face.

"Well, yeah, sure," Jack said, nodding his head.

"I'm only inviting Malena and Captain Carter. What we have to discuss is private. I hope you understand," Martouf said, turning to look at Jack.

"Actually, no I don't," Jack said, a hostile look on his face.

"Dad, stop it. I feel safe with him. He won't let any Goa'ulds attack us," megan said, pushing her hair behind her ear.

"Colonel, I think we should go with him. I think we need to go with him. There's a lot of questions he could answer about Jolinar," Sam said.

"I assure you, Sir, they will be very safe with me," Martouf added.

"Colonel, Megan and I need to do this. Please?" Sam asked.

"Okay Son, but I want you to have them back by 11 o'clock. You understand?" Jack asked goodnaturedly.

Megan groaned as she followed Martouf and Sam. Jack was so dumb sometimes. Why did he say that? Before she could wonder about the complexity that was Jack O'Neill they had reached the transporter rings and arrived on the surface.

The dry warmth of the sun burned Megan's arms, but it was a welcome change after the Tok'ra base. Megan felt a little bit nervous, though. She wanted to ask Martouf questions, but didn't know how without hurting his feelings.

"You feeling any better?" Martouf asked Sam, as they walked on the ridge.

"Yeah, thanks. What about you, Meg?" Sam asked, looking at her friend.

"I'm okay, Sam. I'm sorry that you're so upset, though. Look on the bright side, if you and Jolinar had never met you wouldn't have the knowledge of the Tok'ra," Megan said wryly.

"You are too funny, Megan. And we are going more on your knowledge than mine," Sam said, giving a sour look at her young friend.

"That explains a lot. Thanks, Sam," Megan said sarcastically.

Sam placed a hand on Megan's shoulder. "i'm sorry Megan. We never meant to take advantage of your knowledge," Sam apologized.

"I don't like the idea of having the Goa'uld genetic memory, but I don't mind helping you out. What would you guys do without me?" Megan asked, bragging good-naturedly.

"I don't know, but in the three months that you have been with us you have been a big help," Sam said.

Megan smiled. It was then that Megan noticed Martouf, looking as if he was following this conversation. " I guess you don't know how to plug up your ears, right?" Megan asked. Martouf looked slightly confused.

"I don't think he understands you, Meg," Sam said, whispering in Megan's ear.

"Figures. I've been living among the Tau'ri way too long," Megan said, groaning as she buried her face in her hands.

"Don't mind her, Martouf. She's tired and when she doesn't sleep she gets irritable," Sam said, a teasing look in her eyes.

"I understand. Her mother was much the same way. Please, ah, tell me of Jolinar," Martouf asked, changing the subject.

"I get the feeling you knew him way better than I ever did. In fact Megan probably knew him better than me," Sam said, looking at first Martouf and then Megan.

"Most likely, Sam," Megan said flatly.

"Of that I am sure. For one thing he was a she," Martouf said, causing both Megan and Sam to stop and stare at him. He grinned.

"What? You're kidding!" Megan and Sam both exclaimed in shock.

"Well, actually, that isn't accurate. The symbiote does not have a gender. However Jolinar has always been in female hosts," Martouf said.

"Sounds about right, if my memory of her is accurate," Megan said in agreement.

"Well, Megan, actually the host I found him in, her in, was a male," Sam said confused.

"Another one of the mysteries of Jolinar," Megan said, blowing a long strand of hair out of her face.

"Really? Must have been another method of hiding from the Ashrak. Tell me of Jolinar's last days," Martouf said, his voice getting sad.

Megan lowered her eyes. Since Jolinar had died she hadn't talked about it to anyone. It was a painful memory. "Jolinar nearly killed me, Martouf," Megan said, swasllowing down the lump in her throat.

"She wouldn't have. Jolinar loved you. It broke our hearts to give you up, Malena," Martouf said, his eyes still looking sad.

"If it did then why did you?" megan asked, biting her lips, trying to control the tears in her eyes.

"We had no choice. Your mother was on a routine mission to Abydos. She told me that no goa'uld would be there and you'd be safe. She was wrong. Ra was there with his falcon guards and they tried to kill you since Harcesis children are hunted down. She told me when she returned that you were safe and the Goa'uld would never find you," Martouf said, stooping to look in her eyes.

"Wow! I didn't know. I thought she was crazy. Then confused. She saved my life right before she died. The Ashrak tried to kill us both together and she pushed me out of the area," Megan said, feeling the anger toward Martouf and Jolinar fade slightly.

"She wasn't crazy, Meg. It's kind of weird. It's like I'm left with these intuitions, feelings. I know this, she sacrificed herself to save both you and me. That speaks a ton about her character as far as I'm concerned. I'm sorry are you okay?" Sam asked, looking from Megan to Martouf. He had turned his attention away from Sam.

Torie2

Martouf lowered his head. When he looked up his eyes glowed. This had to be the symbiote in Megan's father. "I'm sorry. Martouf is having a more difficult time handling this than I am," the symbiote apologized.

"So your his symbiote, Lantash, right?" Sam asked.

"Yes. Martouf is the name of my host," Lantash said. Again Megan felt secure. Martouf had often talked as Lantash if she remembered correctly.

"I remember you, Lantash. You often talked to me. Especially if you and Martouf were tired," Megan said, jumping into the conversation.

"Yes. We would go on missions for a long periods of time. You always was happy to see us. Jolinar and Rosha would tease us and say that it was amazing that you hadn't forgotten Martouf's face," Lantash said, his voice sounding amused.

"I know Martouf is the name of your host. I seem to know pretty much everything about you. When I'm with you, I feel a different sort of, I don't know, recognition, than I do with the other Tok'ra. Is there something different about your relationship to Jolinar?" Sam asked, causing Lantash to grin like a schoolboy.

"Jolinar and I were together for nearly...100 of your years. She was my wife," Lantash said.

Megan raised her eyebrows at this bit of information. "Oh. How does that work? She was who's wife? Martouf or Lantash?" Sam asked, curious.

"Both," Lantash said, closing his eyes and lowering his head. When he opened his eyes Martouf was back.

"Now let me attempt an explanation. As I said before, ours is a truly symbiotic relationship. So what I feel, Lantash feels. And what Lantash feels, I feel," martouf said, smiling.

"So when one of you is in love you both feel it," Sam said, summing it all up.

"Yes, we love as one. And, we mourn as one," Martouf said, his expression turning sad. Probably over Jolinar, Megan thought.

"I'm sorry," Sam said apologetically.

"Don't be sorry. We want you to truly comprehend this so that you'll better understand us," Martouf said, his smile coming back.

"So, uh, does Lantash claim kinship to me too?" Megan asked, hesitating slightly.

"In a small sense. You are my daughter, but when you were born Jolinar and Lantash had already blended with us. You only carry the Goa'uld genetic memory. And the feelings I have toward you, Lantash has," Martouf said.

"And the feelings my mother had, Jolinar had," Megan said, remembering the pain in Sam's eyes when Jolinar was in her.

"That's correct. Jolinar loved you. If you could have stayed with us, Malena, she would have found a way," martouf said, his eyes filming with tears.

"Okay, well, I'm curious. What was Jolinar's host like?" Sam asked, breaking the mood.

Megan and Martouf both grinned. "I remember images of her, mostly. She was beautiful. But you probably know more about her than I do, Martouf," Megan said, turning to look at her father.

Martouf smiled. Probably at the recollection. "jolinar's host, your mother Rosha, was very beautiful. She had eyes like the oceans of Marloon, her hair was the color of sand of Abydos, and her smile was, was as infectious as laughter. In fact, Rosha looked very much like you, Captain Carter. You are very beautiful. You'd make a lovely new host for Selmak," martouf said, not noticing the pain entering Sam's eyes.

Megan did, however. She squeezed her friend's hand gently, hoping the gesture showed Sam how much Megan cared. Sam turned away, but not before Megan or Martouf noticed the tears in her eyes.

"I'm sorry. I've said something to offend you," Martouf said, apologizing quickly.

"No. Yes! It's difficult enough with just the remnants of Jolinar in here. The last thing I need is another person-symbiote-whatever," Sam said, turning back to look at Martouf.

Sam walked away, Megan running to keep up with her. Sam and Megan both sat down on the edge of the ridge, Megan folded her thin arms over her knees and looked at her friend with concern in her dark-blue eyes.

"Sam, are you okay?" Megan whispered to her friend as Martouf came over to them.

"I didn't mean to upset you so," Martouf apologized again as he sat down next to Sam and Megan.

"Well, ya did," Megan said reproachfully, using bad grammer.

"It's just the thought of going through that again," Sam said shakily, resting her head against Megan's slim shoulder.

"Don't give it another moment's thought. It was an inappropriate suggestion. Please understand that it came from a honest deep desire to have Jolinar back in my life in some form," Martouf said.

Sam sighed deeply, burying her face in her hands. "This must be what it feels like to be schizophrenic," Sam said, her voice low.

Megan grinned while Martouf looked confused. "You are hardly schizophrenic, Sam," Megan said, dryly.

"What is schizophrenic?" Martouf wanted to know.

Megan grinned at the question. It was something a small child would ask. Not a grown man. "It's a mental illness humans have. It's like a split personality. Two people in one brain. I mean there's me, Samantha Carter, and then there's this leftover part of Jolinar that feels things like-" Sam started and then broke off. It was almost like she couldn't say what.

"Like?" Martouf prodded.

"I have this attachment to Me- I mean Malena," Sam said, looking at her young friend.

"Really?" Megan asked, raising her eyebrows in surprise.

"Yeah. It's like when the Ashrak tried to kill you with me and Jolinar I felt an almost unbearable grief. It was like I couldn't and wouldn't watch you die. I feel like I was the one who gave birth to you. And I remember the love she had for you," Sam said, turning to look at Martouf.

"Jolinar left these memories with you?" Martouf asked, as surprised as Megan.

"Yes," Sam said, nodding her head.

"I am sorry if it makes you uncomfortable," Martouf apologized.

"No! It's just... what you had, you and Jolinar, you were in love, and married, longer than I've been alive! Longer than I will be alive. Megan, also Jolinar loved you so much. That is another reason why we had to find the Tok'ra. She wanted you to find your father," Sam said, looking at Megan.

"I know, Sam. The only thing is I can't believe I forgot her. At least she was able to see me before she died and found out what I was like," Megan said glumly.

"She left these feelings with you? You can feel how she felt for Malena?" Martouf asked, his voice as sad as Megan's.

"And it's confusing me," Sam said, nodding her head.

"Why?" Martouf asked the question Megan was thinking.

"It's like how I feel toward Megan. I remember the day she was born. The difficulty of her birth. I feel like I gave brith to her. Like I was married to you for a 100 years," Sam said, a confused look on her face.

"It's okay, Sam. I'm still trying to understand this myself. You're not alone," Megan said, gently touching Sam's knee.

"Thanks, Megan. I'm sorry I brought all this trouble on you," Sam apologized.

"It's all right. I've enjoyed every minute of going through the Stargate. You have done nothing wrong. Like you said, Jolinar wanted me to know. I would have found out eventually," Megan said, shrugginh her thin shoulders.

"Megan O'Neill, you are incredible. Can I hug you?" Sam asked.

Megan grinned again. "Sure," Megan said. Sam's arms enfolded her tightly and Megan wrapped her arms around Sam's waist. They were hugging when Daniel, Cordesh, and two Tok'ra guards came running up the ridge.

"Sam! Megan!" Daniel shouted.

"Daniel," Megan and Sam said as they broke the hug.

"Learning a lot about Jolinar?" Daniel asked.

Megan and Sam looked at Martouf and then at each other. "You'd be surprised how much," Sam said, smiling as what Martouf and Megan had said all came back in her memory.

Megan saw Cordesh looking at her and Sam, this concerned look on his face. Megan felt the hair on her head stand on end. Something about Cordesh just wasn't right. Her dad said that she had a good judge of character, but there was something about Cordesh that gave her the worst set of the creeps. But now was not a time to think about it.

"Um, the Tok'ra council agreed to meet with us. Jack thought the two of you might want to be there," Daniel said, changing the subject.

Martouf helped Sam and Megan up. "Yeah," Sam said, as they went toward the transporter rings.

"Daniel, was Dad mad at me for what I said to him about Selmak?" Megan whispered to Daniel, nervously.

"No. I think all you did was just hurt him, Megan. He's worried over losing you, megan. He loves you. He doesn't care about your Goa'uld memory. He just doesn't want you to get hurt," Daniel whispered, just as the rings came up and carried them back to the subterranean caverns.

A few minutes later SG-1, Garshaw, and the Tok'ra walked through the underground caverns.

"Quite a place you've got here," Sam commented, looking at Garshaw.

"Is it true these facilities are grown?" Teal'c asked the Tok'ra leader.

"it is. When we arrive at the new base, we plant certain crystals, and they grow into all that you see," Garshaw said, indicating the walls.

"Wow!" Daniel ejaculated.

Jack looked slightly distracted. Megan looked to where Jack was looking. Cordesh was slipping away from the group. Megan saw Jack follow him. Along with the feelings and memories of the Tok'ra, the feeling of dislike surrounding Cordesh was getting stronger every minute.

Megan looked back around the corridors. She souldn't look at this place without thinking of Jolinar teaching her how to walk or Martouf running with her in his arms as they avoided a Goa'uld invasion.

A shaking feeling started in her hands as the reality of her memories started to make sense. Tears started to fall unchecked. For the first time in her life sj=he felt miserable.

At that moment Sam looked back at her. "Megan, are you all right?" Sam asked, causing everyone to look at her. Martouf started at the tears and absolute pain on her face. She looked as if something had hurt her.

Megan looked at the faces of concern. "I'm fine. Don't worry about it," Megan said mechanically. as she wiped her face with the backs of her hands.

Jack came running up the corridor, distracting everyone from Megan's obvious lie. "How fast can you grow a facility like this?" Daniel asked Garshaw, still interested in the structure.

"Quite rapidly. We build only as we need. That is why we are only now adding the corridor and the Council chambers. See for yourselves," Garshaw said, gesturing ahead of them.

They stopped to look at the technological marvel. The blue crystals were going back, leaving walls and a floor as solid as what they all were standing on.

"Wow! It's like staring at the wormhole of the Stargate/ Except it goes back, not forward," Megan stated to the surprise of everyone.

"What the heck?" Jack whispered more to himself than anyone else.

They walked into the new chamber at the end of the corridor. A table stood in the middle of the room. "This chamber is newly grown. Until now we had no reason to convene the Council of the Tok'ra," Garshaw said, looking pleased with herself.

"So this is some sort of accelerated crystal growth?" Sam asked.

"That is correct. We have learned to pattern the natural tendencies of the crystal," Garshaw agreed as Daniel touched the table.

"Like a geode," Sam said.

"People of the Tau'ri, allow me to introduce the Grand Council of the Tok'ra," Garshaw said as Cordesh and five others entered the room. Most of them were women and all of them, except Cordesh wore Roman-style robes.

"Hiya folks, nice to meetcha," Jack said with bravado.

Daniel was a little more cautious and respectful. "Uh, we're very grateful. We're representatives of a planet called Earth," Daniel said diplomatically.

"It is an honor," Teal'c said, inclining his head.

Cordesh looked at his companions on the council. "The Council has reviewed your proposal of an alliance between our peoples," Cordesh said.

"And?" Sam asked, almost impatiently.

"We would like you to understand our situation. Your Harcesis and Jaffa friends understand it. We are an illegal resistance group within the Goa'uld. We are the most hunted, most hated of the System Lords," a female Tok'ra said.

"Hey, we haven't made too many friends along the way either," Jack said, trying to show them a similarity.

"The secrets of the Tok'ra would never be revealed. It is not the way of the Tau'ri. Megan O'Neill didn't even talk or know until three months ago that her mind was different," Teal'c said, also giving an example.

"Not intentionally. But you might be followed to us, you might be tortured into revealing our whereabouts or a spy might be introduced into your midst," Cordesh said. Megan, as much as she hated to admit it, couldn't argue with that.

"We would like to know what you have to offer us that is of sufficient value to justify our exposure," the same female Tok'ra wanted to know.

"Well, I think we've got a lot of things," jack said, bragging. Megan rolled her eyes briefly. Jack was never one for tact, not even for diplomacy's sake.

"The Tau'ri have become quite advanced," Teal'c said, trying to help.

"I'm sure we have something you could use," Megan said uncertainly.

"Please, give us an example," Garshaw said, trying to be polite.

"Sure. Megan," jack motioned to Megan to talk.

"Er, well, I mean, after all, we... we have the same goals in mind," Megan said, stammering before the last thought hit her. Megan's face flushed with embarrassment.

"Perhaps there's some technology that could be of use," sam said, coming to Megan's aid.

"Technology other than our own is useless to us. We are infiltrators. We work from within the Goa'uld. Therefore it is important that we appear to be Goa'uld," Cordesh pointed out.

At that moment Martouf entered the room, whispering in Garshaw's ear. "Bring them in. What are your people planning?" Garshaw asked angrily.

"Beg your pardon?" Jack asked, turning to Garshaw.

"The Chappa'pi just activated and brought forth these!" Garshaw said, turning in the doorway.

Martouf and a couple of guards brought in Colonel Makepeace's team. All of them looked sheepish.

"SG-3," Sam said flatly as they looked at the newcomers.

"Colonel Makepeace? What are you doing here?" Jack demanded as he made his way over to the leader of SG-3.

"General Hammond sent us to extract Captain Carter," Colonel Makepeace said in a military fashion, looking over at Sam.

"Why?" Sam asked.

"I'm afraid it's your father, Captain. He's in the hospital in a serious condition," Makepeace said apologetically. Sam's eyes went wide with shock at the news. Megan had met Jacob Carter a month ago in Washington D.C. He had cancer from what Sam had told her and it was so advanced that he could die.

"You have to let her go home," Jack said, turning to look at the Tok'ra Council.

"I'm sorry, I cannot do that," Garshaw said, almost heartlessly.

"Why not?" Jack asked.

"I'm afraid we have made our decision. We have decided not to accept your request for an alliance," Garshaw said calmly.

"What?" Megan asked, feeling her head pounding.

"Therefore you shall be our guests until such time as we decide to move to another planet," Cordesh said, looking smug.

"What?" Jack repeated Megan's question.

"I'm sure you understand with your knowldege of this planet, you have become a security risk. We cannot allow you to leave until we have moved somewhere else that you do not know about," Garshaw said.

"Well, surely as Tok'ra you're more compassionate than that? Captain Carter's father is dying, I mean at least let her go," Daniel said, trying to reason with them.

"She and Malena are the highest risks of all. Malena with her genetic memory and Captain Carter contains the memory of Jolinar of Malk-shur," Cordesh said. Sam closed her eyes painfully. Apparently Jolinar was causing trouble now for Sam.

"We are not the only ones who have knowledge of this planet. Those we left behind on the Tau'ri also possess this knowledge," Teal'c said, looking worrried.

"As evidenced by our friends here," Jack said, indicating SG-3.

"It is our wish that your lack of return will convince them that we are Goa'uld and not Tok'ra," Garshaw said, her face revealing that she didn't like this any more than they did.

"You want them to think that we're dead," Megan said, her headache getting worse at the thought.

"Well that kinda stinks," Jack whispered.

"I'm sorry. We will try to make you as comfortable as possible," Garshaw said. Martouf, Garshaw, and cordesh left the room then. Megan felt angry at Martouf. Surely he had to have known that she couldn't stay there. Or he just didn't care.
************************************************** **********
A few hours later Megan woke up from her nap as Garshaw stepped in. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and stood to her feet. "You wish to see me?" Garshaw asked, looking at Jack.

"Daniel," Jack said, looking at Daniel.

"Garshaw, could you at least tell us why you've turned down our request for an alliance?" Daniel asked, turning to look at Garshaw.

"We have decided that your limited resources do not offer us enough of a reward to risk the high security breach that your knowledge of us will cause," Garshaw said lowly.

"That's it?" Jack asked.

"Well, at least allow us some time to try to find some technology, some skill, something that you don't have," Daniel said, thinking.

Garshaw smiled ruefully. "I'm sorry, I don't believe it exists," Garshaw said.

"So we are prisoners. You're looking like a Goa'uld to me," Jack said angrily, treading on a delicate subject.

"Dad," Megan warned softly, touching his arm with a warning hand.

"We are doing this for your protection as well as ours. Knowledge of our whereabouts makes you and your world a priority target for the Goa'uld System Lords," Garshaw said, the concern evident in her voice.

"We're already a priority target," Jack pointed out.

"They've previoulsy dispatched two motherships to destroy us," Teal'c said.

"There's another reason, isn't there? Something else bothers you about us," Sam said, contributing to the conversation.

"That is correct. You took in one of our children. Kept her safe. Now none of you, except that child, have volunteered to be a host to one of us who is dying! Now if you're so disgusted with the very thought of blending, how can we be associated with one another? I mean it is obvious that you, except Malena, have distaste for our very being," Garshaw said angrily.

"No, it is simply a lack of understanding. We have no hatred for you at all," Daniel said, his excuse sounding lame.

"Then be a host to Selmak," Garshaw said, her voice demanding Daniel.

"Well, I wish I could say I was okay with that, but-" Daniel started uneasily.

"The very thought sickens you. There is nothing more to be said. There will be no alliance. You will remain here until we say otherwise," Garshaw said, walking off angrily.

Megan could have told them this was a waste of breath. Garshaw would not listen. Megan's memories of her were at least that accurate.

Megan sat next to Sam, disconsolately. Life really wasn't improving. and Sam looked close to tears. "Sam, it's going to be all right. We'll get you to your father. I promise," Megan said, not caring if that promise was impossible to keep.

"Colonel Makepeace, did anyone tell you how far along my father is?" Sam asked, walking over to Makepeace. He turned from the pool to look at Sam.

"No, I was only told to get you back as soon as possible," Makepeace said.

"He doesn't even know why I'm not there for him. He thinks I'm off somewhere working on some satellite dish or something," Sam said, tears in her voice. Sam went back to her seat. Megan touched Sam's shoulder gently.

"We're gonna get you back there, Carter. The good news is, there's nine of us now," Jack said with false bravado.

"That's the good news, Dad?" Megan asked, gloomily.

"Yes. More manpower," Jack said, causing Megan to roll her eyes.

"Is this another one of your strange jokes, O'Neill?" Teal'c asked, just as gloomily as Megan.

"Ah, no," Jack said quickly.

"It will be impossible. There is only one way out, via the rings. We would then have to elude hundreds of Tok'ra," Teal'c said.

"There's a bit of sunshine for ya," Megan said sarcastically, shuddering at the thought of being hit by a Tok'ra staff weapon.

"I for one don't want to hurt any of them," Sam said, looking at Megan.

"I don't either," Megan said stoutly, looking at Jack.

"Look I'm not too thrilled about hurting anyone either. But keep in mind these people wanna make you a host, and as I recall the both of you said that whole 'Jolinar Goa'uld in the head' deal was one of the worst things that ever happened to either of you!" Jack said, getting loud.

"Dad, that was before I knew she was my mother. She loved me. She only trid to take me with her because she didn't want me to be hurt by the Goa'ulds,"Megan said, tears coming to her eyes.

"Megan's right, Sir. That's befrore we both understood it better. If we weren't fighting her and we knew what it meant for Jolinar to be a Tok'ra and a mother, it might have been, I don't know, enlightening. I need to see Garshaw!" Sam ordered the Tok'ra guards watching them. The guards left immediately.

"What?" Daniel asked confused, as he stood up.

"What is the one thing that they need the most?" Sam asked, evading the question.

"Well, hosts, which we can't give them. They rejected Megan as a host," Daniel said.

"That's because Megan has the Goa'uld genetic memory and the Tok'ra also don't like to take children as hosts," Sam said, looking at Megan.

Garshaw and Martouf entered the room, their expressions curious. "What is it?" Garshaw asked.

"You said that the symbiote can cure most problems in a human," Sam said, almost urgent.

"Yes," Garshaw said.

"What about cancer?" Megan asked, knowing what Sam was thinking.

"What is cancer?" Martouf asked with the same confusion as he did the 'schizophrenic' question.

"I'm not entirely certain what it is either. All I know is that it's deadly. People on my planet die of it every day," Megan said, her brow wrinkling in confusion.

"It's a disease in humans where the cells grow out of control. You get tumors-" Daniel started to say.

"Oh yes, it's a common ailment amongst your species. We cure it all the time, it's no problem," Garshaw said boastfully.

"Colonel, I think we should at least try to offer it to my Dad," Sam said, turning to look at Jack.

"What about it, Megan? You said you knew Selmak. Do you think she can save Sam's father?" Daniel asked.

Megan looked at Martouf, then back at Daniel. "Yes," Megan said simply.

"We might have a host for you," Jack said.

"You have a host for Selmak?" Garshaw asked happily.

"Yes. My father. He's got cancer and if Selmak can save his life I think he'd be willing to try it," Sam said.

"But you have to let us go back," Jack said. Martouf looked at Megan. By the look in his eyes Megan could see he didn't want her to go away from him again. Garshaw apparently noticed the look too.

"I will let two of you go. But the rest will remain to ensure that you will return," Garshaw said, looking at Megan. Only Megan could see the Tok'ra would not let her go to get Jacob Carter.

"Come on, Meg," Jack said, not getting the message.

"Dad, I can't. Garshaw said two people. I can't go with you. Don't worry I'll be safe here," Megan said, looking at Martouf. It was hard for her to say she couldn't leave, but she doubted that Martouf would let her leave. Right now her real father was going to tell her what to do instead of Jack.

"Megan, what if the Goa'ulds come? I don't want to lose you like I did Charlie," Jack said, finally admitting his worst fear.

"Don't worry, Dad. I'm not going to die like Charlie. I promise," Megan said.

"I love you, Megan," Jack said, cupping her face and kissing her forehead.

"I love you too, Dad," Megan said, wrapping her arms around Jack's neck. Jack hugged her tight, almost fearfully. It was as if he didn't want to let her go.

"Megan I want you to have this. I meant to give it to you three months ago," Jack said, slipping something into her hand.

Megan looked at the ring Jack gave her. It was different from rings on Earth. "This is Tok'ra design," Megan said, looking at the piece of jewelry.

"Yes. When they found you they found this. I meant to give it to you three months ago, but the timing wasn't right," Jack said.

"Thanks, Dad. This means a lot to me," Megan said, touching the ring with her fingertips.

Jack stood up and walked away without a word. If Megan could have seen the pain on his face she would have gone with him.

Martouf stood behind Malena, watching the painful scene. When Jolinar had told him that Malena wouldn't miss or want either of them he hadn't believed it until he saw it now. It was like while she was his daughter she also wasn't.

In one minute he could see that Malena was still there inside of her and the next minute she was someone else entirely. "Megan, are you okay?" Daniel Jackson asked after a few minutes of complete silence.

Malena turned to face Daniel. "Yeah. I'll be just fine, Daniel. I just hope and pray they can get through," Malena said, her voice cracking with unshed tears as she sat down. She clenched the ring O'Neill had given her in her hand. Martouf sat next to her.

"Malena, I wish to talk some more with you," Martouf said, reaching to touch her shoulder.

Malena backed away, her dark-blue eyes like ice. "No way. We have said all that needs to be said. I don't want to talk to you," Malena said, her voice like her eyes.

Martouf felt a pain enter his heart, replaced by anger. Martouf stood up and grabbed Malena by the wrist. He stalked quietly out of the room, dragging Malena behind him.

"What are you doing? You're hurting me!" Malena said, trying to pull away and pull his fingers off her wrist at the same time.

Martouf turned to look down at her. Malena flinched slightly at looking at him. She knew when someone was angry. Martouf may not have gotten as angry as Jolinar did at times, but when he did people hated the anger.

Martouf walked into his quarters. "I said I want to speak with you," Martouf said, his quiet voice betraying the anger in his eyes.

"Why?" Malena asked just as quietly.

"I am your father. I wish to ask you some questions," Martouf said.

"Okay. Fire away," Malena said, her voice sounding resigned.

"What are your memories of Jolinar and myself?" Martouf asked, stooping to look in her eyes. Malena looked puzzled. It was a question she didn't expect him to ask.

"They aren't sad if that's what you mean. I remember we were always moving the base. We never stayed anywhere long," Malena said, her forehead wrinkling in concentration.

"That is correct, Malena. When we would move I'd carry you through the chappa'pi. You enjoyed it when we left for a new base," Martouf said, reaching out and touching her face gently.

Malena looked at his hand briefly. Apparently she didn't like him trying to be her father now, but she didn't push his hand off her face either. "I know that already. When Jolinar entered Sam I had a memory. We were fleeing and Jolinar handed me to you. You ordered me to lay my head against your shoulder," Malena said, her blue eyes looking far away.

"That is also correct. You see, my Malena, you are my daughter," Martouf said, pulling her into his arms and hugging her tight.
************************************************** **********
Megan didn't know what to make of this situation. While she remembered Martouf hugging her at two, she didn't know if she should tell him to stop hugging her. He may have been her father, but she just didn't see him that way anymore.

"Malena, I'd thought I would never see you again," Martouf whispered in her ear as he kissed it lightly. It was all Megan could do to refrain from wiping her ear viciously or telling him her name was Megan, not Malena.

"I wish I could remember more," Megan said, her voice muffled as it was buried in Martouf's shoulder. Megan really did wish she could remember more.

"I know, my daughter. I know. I am so pleased to have you back in my life it doesn't matter any more. I have missed you so much," Martouf said, gently stroking her brown braid.

Megan then thought of Jack. What would he think of Martouf hugging and kissing her as if he were her father? "Martouf, shouldn't we go back to the Council room? I mean, won't Garshaw wonder where we are?" Megan asked.

"Of course," Martouf said, breaking the hug. After an affectionate look he wrapped his arms around her shoulders as they walked back to the Council room.

Garshaw, the Tok'ra guards, SG-1 and SG-3 were sitting there waiting listlessly. "Still not back yet?" Megan asked, looking at Daniel.

"No. Megan, you weren't just saying that Selmak could help Sam's father, were you?" Daniel asked.

"No. A Goa'uld or Tok'ra has it's limits. It can't cure everything. Selmak will try. That's the best we can expect from her. If General Carter's cancer is so advanced even Selmak won't be able to help him," Megan said, sitting by the pool.

"She is correct, Daniel Jackson. The symbiote will do what it can. There are some illnesses that a symbiote can't cure," Teal'c said, agreeing with Megan.

"The only thing we can do is wait. Dad and Sam have a harder job than we do," Megan said, washing her face with some water she scooped out of the pool.

"What is that, Megan O'Neill?" Teal'c asled.

"Convincing General Hammond and General Carter that this could save his life," Megan said, picking up one of her history books and starting to read it.

A few hours later the Council room was quiet. Everyone in it were either asleep or awake when Michael entered the room and sat down next to Megan, removing his har.

Teal'c stood up and walked over to Garshaw. "I would like to take this opportunity to express my admiration for your cause. It is both honorable and brave," Teal'c said, admiration in his voice that even Megan heard.

"Thank you, Jaffa. I must say I feel the same about you. To break from Apophis and then turn to fight hi shows great conviction of character," Garshaw said, sounding pleased.

Megan smiled. Already, it seemed, relations between the Tok'ra and Jaffa were looking up. She looked over at Michael whispering something to Aldrin. and realized that something didn't feel right.

The next five seconds proved that feeling wasn't too crazy. "Master Garshaw, we have just recieved word from our scout in the Shoran'ka quadrant. The Goa'uld System Lords have been told where we are. They have dispatched two motherships," Martouf said, loud enough for all to hear as he ran into the room.

Megan felt all the blood drain out of her face. Teal'c said Goa'ulds killed children just like her. Could it happen today?

"When will they arrive?" Garshaw asked.

Martouf thought quickly before answering. "Within the day, perhaps hours," martouf said.

"Start the evacuation!" Garshaw ordered as the Tok'ra started to run.

"Wait! What about my dad?" Megan asked, her voice taking on a panic-stricken note.

'We will wait as long as possible. If we cannot we will leave without them," Garshaw said, stopping long enough to talk to Megan.

"What about us?" Daniel asked.

"You are free to go," Garshaw said, starting to run down the corridor again.

"Let's help them. Speed is the most important to them," Makepeace said. SG-1 and SG-3 continued down the corridor, ready to help. Megan ran down to Selmak's room, ready to assist the elderly Tok'ra. Martouf stood by the bed with the Tok'ra physicians.

"Malena," Martouf said, looking up at Megan.

"I want to help Selmak, Martouf," Megan said.

"Very well. You can go down the corridor and get water," Martouf said, reaching out and caressing her face gently with his hand.

"Yes sir," Megan said, running out of the room.

In the tunnels the crowds, trying to escape were packed. The movement of the transporter rings got everyone's attention as Sam, Jack, and Jacob Carter entered the corridor.

"Dad!" Megan yelled, running straight into Jack's arms.

Jack hugged her tight, but was looking at Makepeace helping the Tok'ra move. SG-3 turned to look at the newcomers.

"Makepeace?" Jack asked, that simple word more like a question.

"All right, airmen, carry on," Makepeace ordered in a no-nonsense tone.

"What the heck's going on here?" Jack asked confused, wrapping his arm around Megan's shoulders.

"We're free," Makepeace said.

"Then why are you still here?" Jack asked, annoyed.

"Well, we wanna be allies, right? So we're lending a hand with the evacuation," Makepeace said.

"What evacuation?" Jack asked, still confused.

"Come on, I'll explain as we go," Makepeace said hurriedly.

Megan went with them, the water for Selmak temporarily forgotten. Daniel and Teal'c straightened at seeing them. "Dad, this is Teal'c. Teal'c this is my father," Sam said, introducing Jacob to Teal'c, who he was staring at with surprise.

"It is an honor," Teal'c said, shaking Jacob's hand.

"Dad, you also remember Megan? Colonel O'Neill's daughter?" Sam said, indicating Megan.

"Yeah. The little girl in Washington who could solve a hard math problem in five seconds," Jacob said, remembering meeting her a month ago in Washington when Jack and Sam had gotten commendations from the president.

"It's nice to see you again, General," Megan said, grabbing the old man's hand and helping him down the corridor.

"This is where they've been stacking our stuff," Daniel said, all of them following him into a room that held all of SG-1's things.

At that moment the room glowed with the wormhole effect the council room had. This is chel nak. A receding corridor," Megan said, fascination in her voice as the memory of it came to mind.

"Direct translation, very cool," Daniel said, looking as the rest did in awe.

"Okay, you wanna tell me what's going on here?" Jack asked, his voice turning into a demand.

"They're evacuating so we're free to go," Daniel said.

"Why?" Jack asked, putting on his bullet-proof vest.

"The System Lords are ready to attack. The Goa'uld motherships are on the way," teal'c said.

"Oh," Jack said. It was all he could say.

Megan looked at Jacob. "Sam, we have to get your father to Selmak quickly. Two Goa'uld motherships is never a good thing," Megan said, pushing a strand of hair out of her eyes.

"All right, where do we find Garshaw?" Jack asked, as if Megan hadn't spoken up.

"We last saw her in the Council chamber," Teal'c said, meaning him and Daniel.

"All right, boys, let's go. You two, call if you need me," Jack said, looking at Sam and squeezing Megan's hand gently, before leaving.

Sam, Megan and Jacob made their way down the corridor. Jacob tried to move faster, but Megan could see it was hard on him and very slow going. All she felt was relief when they reached the sickroom. Martouf and the Tok'ra physicians were there sponging Selmak's head with the water Megan had forgotten to bring.

Martouf looked up at them, surprised. "You have returned," he said in Lantash's voice.

"Yes. This is my father, Jacob Carter," Sam introduced Jacob. Jacob looked slightly shell-shocked as he looked at Lantash.

"Honored," Lantash said, inclining his head much like Teal'c would. When he looked up he was Martouf again.

"I am Martouf. You have a very special daughter," Martouf said, a warm and friendly look on his face.

"Why does he talk like that?" Jacob asked, his curiosity far outweighing his tact.

"He's a Tok'ra, Dad. I told you about them," Sam whispered to Jacob.

"Yeah, he's going to talk like that often," Megan said, sitting on a ledge.

"You've heard him talk like this before?" Jacob asked.

"Yep. Did my Dad ever tell you I am adopted? That for some reason unknown to humanity they found me on some porch when I was two?" Megan asked, looking at Martouf before she looked at Jacob.

"No. All I know is that they use you because you're very smart," Jacob said.

"Well, I am. Martouf is my father, biologically speaking. His symbiote, Lantash, and my mother's symbiote, Jolinar, made my intelligence," Megan said, sitting next to Selmak and holding her hand.

"Oh, so these are the aliens you were telling me about?" Jacob asked. Martouf looked at his daughter. She looked back at him and smiled briefly at being called an alien.

"I wouldn't call Megan an alien. She's a human being that knows Goa'uld technology. I don't even know if I'd call the rest aliens, sort of half-alien, I guess. I mean the outside is human and the inside is shared between a human and symbiote," Sam said, trying to explain.

Martouf and Megan both smiled briefly at the explanation. "And that's what you want me to become. You gotta be kidding," Jacob said, shaking his head unbelievably.

Megan looked at Selmak worriedly. "General Carter, Sam told me a month ago what was wrong with you. If you don't become Selmak's host you could die," Megan said, her voice sharper than she had intended.

Martouf looked at his daughter, then lowered his head, Lantash coming back. "Forgive my daughter. No one wishes to pressure you in any way, Sir. The decision is yours, but before deciding might I suggest that you take a moment to get to know the symbiote that wishes to blend with you," Lantash said.

"This is her?" Jacob asked, indicating Saroosh as the Tok'ra physicians left the room.

"Actually, you can only see the host, the symbiote's inside her," Sam said.

"Inside her," Jacob said skeptically.

"Yes. Talk to her, General, get to know her," Megan said, releasing Saroosh's hand and standing beside Martouf.

Selmak woke up, a pleasant smile on her face. "If you agree to the blending we could be together for a very long time," Selmak said, breaking into a coughing jag.

Megan grabbed Saroosh's hand and rubbed it gently until the fit passed. "You don't look so good," Jacob stated, concern in his eyes.

"You are no vision of beauty yourself, Sir!" Selmak said, with humor in her voice.

Megan and Jacob laughed outright and Martouf grinned. Only Sam's face was stoic. Jacob's laugh gave way to a fit of coughing. Then Selmak started to cough again.

"It's all right, sorry," Jacob said, the fit passing.

"It's all right. Don't worry about it," Megan said.

Selmak closed her eyes, letting Saroosh talk. "I'm the one to whom you should be talking," Selmak said precisely.

"You are the one I'm talking to. Why, why did your voice change like that?" Jacob asked, looking at Sam and Megan.

"That's the host talking now," Sam said.

"I am Saroosh. I am in the position to help you most," Saroosh said, smiling slightly.

"How's that?" Jacob asked.

"I will die, Selmak will live on, you will take my place as host," Saroosh said simply.

"Um, I don't understand," Jacob said, confused.

"Selmak is a wonderful Tok'ra. She is selfless and caring. She is good company, she has a wonderful sense of humor," Saroosh said, smiling.

Megan also smiled at the thought. All that Saroosh had just said she remembered of Selmak.

"Well, that's good, Dad. You can sit around for hours cracking yourself up," Sam said, in an attempt to be funny. Megan smiled.

While Saroosh thought that was funny, Jacob didn't. "That's funny," Jacob said, grumpily.

"She's not far wrong. I've had almost two hundred years of laughter thanks to Selmak. I'm biased, of course, but I believe that Selmak is among the best educated of the Tok'ra. You will probably be overwhelmed by the knowledge and wisdom you will gain upon blending," Saroosh said, laughing.

"Do you know her?" Jacob indicated Megan.

"Of course. Malena is a Harcesis. I was there the night she was born. Her birth was so difficult on Rosha. She nearly died," Saroosh said, gently stroking Megan's hand.

"So, I get all of this thing's, erm, what did you call it...in their head?" Jacob asked, gesturing with his hands.

"Symbiote," Sam said.

"Yeah. I get all it's memories and stuff?" Jacob asked, wanting to know.

"Yeah, General, something like that," Megan said.

"Then I won't decieve you, Sir. We have some pretty awful things buried in our memory," Saroosh said truthfully.

"Such as?" Jacob asked.

"Memories of countless Goa'uld atrocities, the loss of the host before me, and you will feel the mourning for my loss," Saroosh said, Martouf looking down as he probably remembered the host before him.

Jacob looked slightly sick. "Will you excuse me, Ma'am?" Jacob asked. He ran off and threw up in a niche on the wall. Megan and Sam followed him, looking concerned.

"I'm sorry. I didn't want her to see me like this," Jacob apologized.

"Dad, you don't have to do this," Sam said, putting her hands on Jacob's shoulders.

"She's right, Sir. No one will force you to do this," megan said.

"Yes I do. My only other choice is death and that's not acceptable. Look, don't worry. It's not just hearing all that stuff that made me lose my stomach. It's the chemo. and the trip through that Stargate thing," Jacob said, taking deep breaths.

Sam nodded. "It's okay. This is a lot of weird information for anyone to take in at once. Trust me, I know," Sam said, the voice of experience.

"Okay," Jacob said, nodding his head. It sounded as if he just agreed. Now they needed to see if Selmak also agreed.

"Okay, what do I have to do?" Jacob asked Martouf as he sat on a ledge.

"First Selmak would like to interview you," Martouf said, looking down at Saroosh.

Saroosh opened her eyes. "If I am to spend the next hundred or more years with you as my host, do you not think I have the right to decide if I even like you?" Selmak asked stubbornly.

Jacob started to laugh. "What's not to like? Just ask my daughter and the kid over there, I'm a teddy bear," Jacob said, amused.

"Oh yeah, real...teddy bear," Sam said grudgingly.

"General, I don't know you that well. I've only met you once and that was a month ago. Leave me out of it," Megan said, a smile on her face.

"Stubborn kid. I like her," jacob said respectfully.

Megan blushed and looked down at her military boots, embarrassed by the compliment.

"How do you feel about the Goa'uld?" Selmak asked, saving Megan from having to answer. Martouf looked over at Jacob, wondering the same thing.

"Well you're the first one I've met," Jacob admitted truthfully.

"I am not a Goa'uld," Selmak said stiffly, looking away from Jacob.

"Ah, trick question?" Jacob asked, looking at Sam.

"Remember, Dad, Megan and I tried to explain the difference," Sam said.

"Right, right I apologize. I guess I've never met a Goa'uld before. Although from what Sam and her people tell me, I don't think I like them much," Jacob said. Martouf smiled faintly along with Megan and Sam.

Selmak looked up at Martouf, her eyes telling him to leave. He got the hint, ushering Sam and Megan out of the room. They stood in the doorway quietly.
************************************************** **********
Megan watched Jacob and Selmak talk. Apparently things were going well. Megan looked up at her father. Martouf looked concerned at how things were going. "Martouf, relax. Selmak will agree," Megan said.

"I know, Malena. I just hope she does before the System Lords attack," Martouf said, absently stroking his daughter's hair.

Megan looked back at Jacob, He was coming toward them, his eyes apprehensive.

"You must hurry. We don't have a lot of time," Lantash said. Apparently Martouf had let Lantash talk on this one.

Martouf and Megan walked back into the room, letting Sam and her father alone for a few minutes to talk.

"Lantash, do you think there's a chance?" Megan asked the symbiote.

"Possibly, Malena. Selmak will try her best," Lantash said, looking down at Selmak.

"I hope you're right," Megan said skeptically.

"Malena, it is a pleasure to see you also. All of us who have children thought that seeing you again would never happen. It would have been impossible for you to come out of hiding," Selmak said.

"Thanks to Jolinar I would have stayed hidden," Megan said, her face flushing with embarrassment.

"Oh, you've seen Jolinar," Selmak said, amused at her chagrined look.

"Yes. I was so mad at her, but now I think I understand my mother better," Megan said, looking at Martouf.

Before Martouf could say anything Jacob came into the room. "Okay, what do I do?" Jacob asked.

It took a few minutes for Saroosh to sit up so she was face-to-face with Jacob. Malena was right next to Jacob Carter, ready to catch him if he fell.

"Have you ever seen this before, Kid?" Jacob Carter asked Malena.

"No. The Tok'ra Harcesis have never watched anyone become a host at two years of age. But at least these aren't Goa'ulds. This way of becoming a host is less painful," Malena said, pushing strands of hair away from her eyes.

"How, Megan?" Samantha asked, curious.

"What my daughter means is we do not enter our hosts through the back of the neck. This just leaves a scar that many of us find unsettling," Martouf said, smiling affectionately at Malena.

"Sam, Jolinar entered the same way," Malena pointed out.

"Yeah. So why don't the Goa'uld do it this way too?" Samantha asked.

"They don't wish to remember the horror of their host's face whenever they see their own reflection in the mirror. You must step away, Captain Carter," Martouf said.

Jacob looked at Sam. "Good-bye, Kid. Now what?" Jacob asked, clearing his throat as he looked at Saroosh.

"Kiss me," Saroosh said, her voice faint.

"You're kiidng, right?" Jacob asked, smiling as if she had just told a joke.

"No, I'm not," Selmak said, speaking for Saroosh.

Jacob puckered his lips as if to kiss her when Selmak entered. Sarrosh closed her eyes for the last time and fell back. "Good-bye, dear friend," Selmak in Jacob said, his voice full of pain as he also passed out.

Malena and Samantha grabbed Jacob as he fell and Martouf gently lowered Saroosh to the floor and covered her with a blanket.

"He's alive. Is he okay?" Samantha asked Martouf worriedly, as he opened Jacob's eyes to check his vitals.

"He's very sick. And Selmak is weak. He may not have the strength to heal him," Martouf said, looking just as worried as Samantha.

"Well, is there anything we can do to help?" Sam asked, touching her father's hand.

"Nothing. Only time will tell," Martouf said.

Michael entered the room, holding a staff weapon. "Our scouts have spotted the Goa'uld ships dropping from hyperspace. They will start attacking from the air and through the 'gate within hours. Garshaw orders that we must destroy the complex," Michael's symbiote, Torgon, said.

"Michael, we can't!" Malena said, her voice panic-stricken.

"Megan's right. We need time! Can we move him?" Samantha said, looking at Martouf.

"If we do so it will kill them," Martouf said, his face showing the hopelessness of their situation.

"So we're between a rock and a hard place," Malena said, licking her lips nervously.

A few minutes later Martouf, Megan, and Sam sat waiting for Jacob to wake up when Garshaw and everyone else entered the room.

"Dad!" Megan exclaimed breathlessly, running into Jack's strong arms.

"It's all right, baby," Jack said, sounding exhausted.

"Martouf, all tunnels but this one and the escape tunnel have vanished. All the other Tok'ra have gone to the new homeworld. We must go now!" Yosuuf said, her voice desperate.

"But what about General Carter?" megan asked, breaking away from Jack and standing next to Sam and Martouf.

"When and if he awakens, Selmak knows where we'll be. He can follow, Malena," Yosuuf said optimistically.

"But the Goa'uld are coming. They'll capture him," Daniel said.

"If he's captured, he will die before he will reveal our whereabouts," Yosuuf said stoutly.

"Well, then take him with you!" Sam said.

"Or we'll take him with us," Jack said, before Yosuuf could say anything.

"I'm afraid tht to transport him now, he will die. He needs to remain stationary until Selmak has completed her repairs," Martouf said said calmly, the voice of reason.

"Martouf, we can't just leave him here!" Megan said, her voice rising an octave higher than usual.

"I will remain with him, my daughter. If I can get him out, I will. If not, I will allow the vanishing tunnels to consume us before the Goa'uld get here," Martouf said, touching her shoulder briefly in a consoling gesture.

"I cannot allow you to die in this way. We must leave now!" Garshaw ordered sharply.

"I'll stay," both Megan and Sam said at the same time.

"Megan, no!" Jack said, his voice full of pain.

"I'll be fine, Dad. Don't worry. The Goa'ulds can't hurt me," Megan said, giving him a fake smile.

"The two of you are even more vulnerable since Malena's a Harcesis and you contain the memory of Jolinar! I cannot allow you to stay. We must go now!" Garshaw ordered, her eyes regretful.

"She's right, Captain, Megan. We have to go," Jack said, his earlier panic gone.

"With respect, no, Sir. I am not leaving him here," Sam said almost defiantly.

"Me neither, Dad," megan said, agreeing with Sam.

"Captain Carter, Malena, and myself will remain. I will assure that we will not be taken by the Goa'uld," Martouf said, resolutely.

"Please, Colonel. We need to be here," Sam said said. Jack looked at Sam and then Megan.

"Right. Daniel? Teal'c? Let's go?" Jack ordered, not bothering to look Megan in the eyes as he walked out.

Megan watched Jack leave, painfully. Telling him to leave her behind was painful. Megan felt tears fill her eyes, scalding hot tears. She sat on the ledge, the tears starting to fall.

"Malena, you do not have to stay with us," Martouf said, wiping her tears with his thumbs as he sat down next to her and wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

"I don't mind. It's my fault that General Carter's here. If I hadn't said that Selmak could help him we wouldn't have Goa'ulds breathing down our necks," Megan said, running her hands through her hair and jerking hard on the hair she had unbraided a few hours ago.

Martouf and Sam couldn't say anything as they sat down, waiting.
************************************************** **********
Martouf sat next to Malena, watching her carefully. She looked so tired she looked capable of falling over.

"Oh lord, I hope I've done the right thing bringing him here," Samantha said worriedly as they watched Jacob sleep.

"From what I understand the alternative was no better," Martouf said, in an attempt to make Samantha feel better.

"Father's right, Sam. It was either let the cancer kill him or give him a fighting chance," Malena said, her voice completely drained and exhausted.

"True," Samantha agreed.

"Martouf looked at his daughter in surprised shock. "Did you just call me what I think you just called me?" Martouf asked, touching Malena's shoulder.

"Possibly. I'm so tired, I'm not even thinking straight," Malena said, rubbing her sleepy eyes.

"Megan, why don't you go to sleep? You look tired," Samantha said, looking at Malena.

"No. I want to be awake when Jacob and Selmak wake up," Malena said stubbornly, sounding a whole lot like Martouf at a younger age.

"It won't help if you pass out. Megan, go to sleep. We'll wake you if something happens," Samantha said.

"you promise?" Malena asked skeptically.

"Yes. I promise," Samantha said.

Malena nodded her head and eased into a lower ledge on the floor. Within minutes she was sound asleep.

Megan woke up a few minutes before Jacob. "Ummm!" Megan groaned. stretching her arms and legs.

Sam and Martouf looked from Jacob to her. "How do you feel, my daughter?" Martouf asked.

"Still wiped. But I won't pass out until we get back to Earth. How's General Carter, Sam?" Megan asked, looking over at Jacob, who was still asleep.

"Still alive. The damage from the cancer must have been extensive," Sam said, her hand on Jacob's head.

"Ah," Jacob moaned, waking up.

"Dad?" Sam asked.

"General Carter?" Megan also asked, both her and Sam looking concerned.

"Martouf?" Jacob asked in Selmak's voice, looking at Martouf.

Martouf stood up. "I am here," martouf said, his voice urgent.

Selmak looked around as the underground cavern shook and they heard bombs go off. "Should we not make our escape?" Selmak asked, looking up.

"He's right. If we don't, we're dead," Megan said, picking up her books and hat that she had left on the floor.

"Yes, we should," Martouf said, a relieved smile on his face.

"Ah, is my Dad in there somewhere?" Sam asked, looking at Jacob closely.

Selmak sighed and closed his eyes. When he opened them again it was Jacob. "I'm here, Sam. Oh man, talk about your hangover," Jacob said, rubbing his head.

"How are you, Dad?" Sam asked.

"I'm awful. Headache the size of Kuwait. There's too much stuff in here. Whoah!" Jacob exclaimed sharply as he got off the bed.

"What?" Sam asked, surprised at the outburst.

"What's wrong, General?" Megan asked, grinning at the burst of energy.

Jacob laughed outright. "No more arthritis! No more arthritis!" Jacob said, lifting his legs.

Another explosion rocked the base. Megan, without thinking about what she was doing, wrapped her arms around Martouf's waist. Martouf touched her shoulder gently. "We'd better jet. This place is not feeling too safe right now," Megan said, her voice packed with urgency.

"Malena is correct. We should make our leave as soon as possible. This way," martouf gripped Megan's hand and the three followed him out of the room. Megan looked back briefly as the tunnels collapsed with great rapidity. Megan hoped they wouldn't collapse with them still inside.

Martouf, Sam, Jacob, and Megan stopped just where the rings were. All of them looked at the diminshing tunnels. The rings came down just then, carrying them to the surface.
************************************************** **********
They all ran toward the Stargate, all of them staring nervously at it when they stopped in front of it. The 'gate was spinning on the chevrons.

"The Goa'uld are attempting to come through the 'gate," Martouf said, not sounding out of breath from running.

"Not if Megan dials out first. We'll go to Earth. You two can go wherever you need to from there," Sam said, pushing Megan toward the DHD.

Megan swallowed hard as she dialed the DHD. This was the first time Sam had said she could dial home and Megan didn't want to make a mistake. The wormhole opened instantly.

"Did we open the 'gate or did they?" Megan asked, looking at the wormhole uncertainly.

"We have no choice," Selmak said.

Megan looked up nervously as Goa'uld gliders soared in the sky. "Wait!" Sam said, placing a restraining hand on Megan's shoulder and tapping a code in the GDO. The GDO would tell them it was Earth on the other side.

They all ran toward the 'gate, Megan feeling a stitch in her stomach. Sam grabbed Megan's hand and they all ran into the cold of the Stargate, just as the gliders fired on them.

This is finally it on this story! Since this part is so long I'll have to break it in increments of a, b, and, c. When this story is done I'm planning on other stories too that deal with Megan.

The gateroom never looked more wonderful to Megan. She looked at the ramp she was lying on. Then she looked at Sam, Jacob, and Martouf. They were all getting up just as soon as they had arrived.

"Megan!" Jack exclaimed, rushing over to her.

"Dad," Megan breathed softly, as she rushed into her dad's strong arms.

"You're all right, Kid," jack said, cupping her thin cheeks with his hands as he looked into her dark-blue eyes.

"Thanks, Dad. I have to admit though, I didn't think I'd be home. The Goa'ulds fired on us as soon as we got to the 'gate. Also we were a little worried after dialing out if we got the right place or some Goa'uld world," Megsn said wearily, as she hugged Jack. She turned as Jacob walked to Garshaw and General Hammond.

"I must give you thanks. You have saved my life and that of my new host. We thank you," Selmak said happily.

"This is wonderful news," Garshaw said.

"Yes. Can we talk to your host?" General Hammond said, sounding uncertain.

Jacob lowered his head and cleared his throat. He looked up, confused. "So when the little fella inside me is talking, do I sound like he does?" Jacob asked, causing everyone to smile.

"That is correct," Teal'c said.

General Hammond looked amused at his friend. "That's strange. I can feel myself talking, but it's not me saying the words. You know?" Jacob said, smiling.

"Don't know. Take your word for it," Jack said.

"How do you feel?" Daniel asked, wondering what they all were thinking.

"Well, considering I got one of those things inside me, pretty good! Listen, George, because of this blending thing, I'm like Megan over there. I already know everything there is to know about the Tok'ra. You made the right call," Jacob said, clapping General Hammond's shoulder.

"I hope so," General Hammond said goodnaturedly.

Megan, Sam, and Martouf all looked at each other and grinned, feeling pleased they had made the right call too.

"I would be proud to serve as liasion between Earth and these people," Jacob said.

"Good. Well on that note, perhaps you can ask them to come with me to do a little debriefing," General Hammond said, turning to leave the room.

"I'm afraid we cannot. We must go. The Harcesis can give you the report," Garshaw said, looking at Megan.

"You are safe here," Teal'c said.

"Because of the spy the Goa'uld may already be at the site the Tok'ra have moved to," Garshaw said, regretfully.

Megan looked over to Martouf. The look on his face was pained. Apparently he didn't look too happy at leaving her again.

"Master Garshaw, do we have to leave Malena here?" Martouf asked, his eyes locked on Megan's.

"I'm afraid we must, Martouf. Malena knows too much about us and she is safer on this planet," Garshaw said.

"I'm sorry, Martouf. I could have told you this would happen," Megan said softly out of the side of her mouth.

"You can't stay a little longer?" Sam asked Martouf.

Martouf's face cleard as he looked away from Megan to Sam. "No, we must go quickly and stop the tunnels before they are grown," Martouf said.

"We must move the Tok'ra to yet another home. Do you not have a dialing device here?" Garshaw asked, looking around.

"Yeah, we slapped a little one together," Jack said sarcastically.

"Hmmm, you made it yourself, impressive. Will you show it to me? I would like to put in the coordinates myself," Garshaw said, impressed.

"This way," General Hammond said showing the way with his hand. Everyone except Jacob, Sam, Martouf and Megan left the gateroom.

Megan looked at her father, feeling a painful lump in her throat. "Martouf, I am sorry that I can't go with you," Megan said, blinking her eyes fast so she wouldn't cry.

"I know, Malena. I am sorry too. Most of the Tok'ra never see their children again after putting them into hiding, but it is fortunate that I got to see you again, my daughter," Martouf said, caressing her face gently with his hand.

"I'm sorry that I didn't remember sooner," Megan said.

"It wasn't your fault, Malena. If Jolinar had told me I would have gotten you sooner," Martouf said, smiling as he squeezed her small hands gently in his hands.

"I wouldn't have liked it if you did, Martouf," Megan said, a weak, trembling smile on her lips.

Martouf's face looked probably just like hers. The tears that wouldn't fall were also there. Martouf looked at Sam and made an attempt to make her feel better.

"I give you my word, I will watch over your father as if he were my own," Martouf said, as all three walked over to Jacob.

"Thank you," Sam said.

"I look forward to seeing you and Malena again," Martouf said smiling.

Megan then felt like smacking her head against a wall. Martouf would see her again.

"I thought that we wouldn't see you again," Megan said, feeling like an idiot.

Martouf pulled Megan aside, and placed his hands on her thin shoulders. "You won't come to live on the Tok'ra homeworld, but I'll still be able to see you when I come here," Martouf said, picking his words carefully.

"Oh," Megan said quietly. She turned to look back at Sam and Jacob. Sam was having her own difficult goodbye with her own father.

"Malena, I will try to get you on the Tok'ra homeworld," Martouf said, breaking her concentration.

"No. I don't want to. I'll help Dad and Sam," Megan said so softly that it looked as if Martouf was straining to hear her.

The sound of the Stargate opening caught Megan's attention. The wormhole appeared after a burst of energy sprang out.

"Wow," Megan said softly, as the watery wormhole was established.

"There will come a time when the tok'ra and the people of the Tau'ri will destroy the System Lords," Garshaw said, as she, Jack, and Daniel entered the gateroom.

"This will be a good day. C'mere, Runt!" Jack said softly, then loudly, looking at Megan.

"Oh for crying out loud!" Megan said, covering her face with her hands in embarrassment.

Sam apparently took pity. "Sir, you are embarrassing her," Sam said.

"Thanks, Sam. and Dad, just because you're older than me doesn't make me a runt. I am smarter than you, thanks to two certain Tok'ra that shall remain nameless," Megan said, her blue eyes sparking with humor.

"Oooh! Someone's got a temper problem!" Jack said, grabbing her ear and pulling it.

"Daddy, stop it," Megan said irritably, pulling away and backing toward the wall.

"I'm only teasing you, Megs. Lighten up," Jack said, goodnaturedly using the nickname she went by when she was small.

Megan sighed deeply. "I know you are, Dad. I'm just tired and hungry and I'm hoping that with this newfound Tok'ra knowledge that you won't send me away," Megan said, rattling off like a machine.

"What kind of Dad do you think I am? I won't let anything bad happen to you," Jack said, hugging her tight.

"i know you won't, but Maybourne wanted Teal'c when that bug-" Megan started to say, but her voice broke off, her eyes revealing her fears.

"It's not going to happen, Megan. I said the first time I held you I would protect you with my life," Jack said, stroking Megan's hair.

"Thanks, dad, but that doesn't make me feel better," Megan said bitterly.

"Maybe this would. Right now Colonel Maybourne knows nothing of your real identity. The only one, beside the SGC, is the President," Jack said.

Megan's face cleared and watched the rest of the goodbyes unfold, clinging to Jack's side. Daniel handed Garshaw a box with the Sagan Institute theme on it.

"Um, this box has a signature in it we can recognize. Just send it through the 'gate and we'll know you want to contact us," Daniel said.

"Thank you. Come Selmak," Garshaw said, looking at the box and then Jacob.

Sam and Jacob hugged, while Martouf and Garshaw walked toward the wormhole. "I love you," Jacob whispered.

"I love you too, Dad," Sam said.

Martouf and Garshaw looked toward them, waiting while Jacob said his good-byes. Jacob turned to Jack and Megan, a glint of humor in his eyes.

"Selmak says, let kme see if I can translate this, don't call us, we'll call you,," Jacob said, goodnaturedly.

Jack and Megan both grinned as Jacob did. Megan looked over at Martouf, wondering if the goodnatured look on his face was a cover up for the pain he felt at leaving her again.

Martouf averted his eyes from hers as he, Garshaw, and Jacob walked up the ramp and disappeared through the wormhole. Sam sighed deeply as the three disappeared. Megan knew the feeling well. Now she knew her true roots things wouldn't be the same.

Things had just taken a sharp u-turn in her life. In a sense she was a Tok'ra operative here on Earth and all because of what had happened with Jolinar three months ago.

~The End~
