I haven't seen all the episodes yet. I haven't seen most I think. I've seen all of season 1 because I have it on DVD and I try to catch the episodes on Mondays and Fridays. But I was wondering, are the Ancients dead? If not, has SG-1 ever met them?
I saw an episode not long ago where there seemed to be some kind of invisible monster which could possess bodies. It was a season 8 episode where Jack shot Daniel. I thought Daniel made reference to the Ancients, but I'm not sure.

Oh, dear.. the Ancients... They kinda confuse me, too, so... I've missed a lot with that whole thing... But as far as I can tell, they are "people" that were dying and somehow obtained the ability to change into these kind of watcher-type entities. :angel These people didn't actually die, but it's almsot like their consciousness leaves they physical body... I'm not sure that helps, but, hope it does! :D

I thought Jack had seen one right before Daniel ascended. I don't think they talked to each other, but I think he definately saw one.

I read this about the season 6 finale.
It is revealed in this episode that the Others, the ascended beings like Daniel and Oma Desala, are actually the Ancients, the race that created the stargates. They ascended from human form to avoid a plague sweeping the galaxy.
I'm just confused with the whole Atlantis thing. Was this "plague" the "Wraith?" A plague of Wraith, is that anything like a plague of locusts?
I'm really not all that impressed with these "Ancients." Apparantly, from what Daniel said tonight in "The Abyss," they have laws forbidding him helping out anyone, including those closest to him, because they aren't gods and shouldn't pretend to be.
Okay, like the quote in Spiderman says, "With great power comes great responsibility." You would think these Ancients being so powerful would also have wisdom, though from what I see, they clearly do not. You have that much power, you should be able to detect who is good and who is evil and use your power to help those who are good.
Basically they seem to have an attitude of, "We're too good to be bothered with anyone else and their problems."
I'd rather be a mortal human than an ascended ancient any day, what with this self-righteous ego problem they seem to have. To forbid Daniel to help save Jack's soul - that's just messed up. These Ancients have serious attitude problems.
And why don't they go back and eliminate the threat that nearly destroyed them?
Why does Hollywood seem to think that being a higher lifeform means you have to be pacifists and allow evil to happen? The Nox, the Ancients. What's up with that? Somebody once said that all evil needs is for good people to do nothing.
Okay, I'm done venting now. I'm just not impressed with these Ancients.
