I saw the episode the other day where Annubis was attacking earth through their Stargate and they ended up sending the Stargate up into outer space to explode. Bye bye Stargate.

Well I had assumed that was the Stargate dug up in Giza in the movie and that the other Stargate they replaced it with was the one they found in Antartica that somehow the Russians got. (How'd that happen?)

But I just saw the season 3 finale tonight, "Nemesis," in which they transported the Stargate up from earth to Thor's ship to get out of the ship before it exploded and so I'm assuming it was destroyed. So were there three gates? How many earth gates are or were there?

BTW - why Russians? Why not some other country? The cold war has been over for some time now.

The answer to your question is in tonights episode! The one that is on Thor's ship crashed to earth, and the gate survived, and the russians recover it, to summarize quickly...

Oh. Now just to clarify, the two gates have seperate symbols used as a point of origin, right? Or are they both the same?

Nope, there are two differnt points of origin, which is why Sam and Jack never realized where they were when they were stranded in Antartica... Different gate, different point of origin.
