Beau Bridges will join the cast of SG-1 in Season Nine as Colonel Hank Landry, who is hand-picked by Jack O'Neill to be the new commander of the S.G.C. when Jack is promoted to head the Department of Homeworld Security. (The fate of General Hammond, who held that position in Season Eight, is yet unknown.) Bridges will be a series regular, and will also cross over to do a few guest appearances on Stargate Atlantis.
I'm confused - why wouldn't Bridges character be a General when that position has always been filled by a General? Unless it was a typo. I can't see a Colonel running the SGC. If that is so, why did they even need to promote Jack to Brig. Colonel in the first place for the position?
And Beau Bridges? I'd much rather see Jeff Bridges in the part.
They still haven't said who's going to lead SG-1, whether it's Sam or the new guy. My vote is for Sam. I'll be mad if the new guy gets it over her. Jack, before he leaves, should put her in charge.
As for General Hammond, why don't they just keep him in command of Prometheus since he likes it so much? You don't have to be head of homeworld security to do that. In fact, I have a hard time believing that someone in that position would have commanded that ship to take it to the Pegasus galaxy like we saw in that episode. The person in charge of homeworld security wouldn't leave for such a long mission and leave earth without the person in that position.
Also, the new character's name is Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell.
