View Full Version : Okay, I'm wondering....

So, I got through a book called Timeline by Michael Crichten.

It talked a bit about quantum physics and worm holes. Made me totally think about Stargate.

So, my question is, did they ever talk about if the environment on the other end of the stargate (destination) could or could not effect the reintergration of bodies/equipment?

Just another one of those "I'm curious" questions.

I think they cover that one by saying stuff like it's a gate safety thing that it only establishes a wormhole with worlds that can sustain, or once had sustained human-like life. :scrch i'm not sure, though....

They have talked a lot about the Stargate's safety mechanisms and that it protects the traveler from all kinds of problems. Of course the whole idea of a "wormhole" is purely science fiction so really, you could make up any rules for them that you wanted to.

Haven't read the book, but I've seen the movie. It's a really good movie, the guy who played Andre Marek was drop dead gorgeous with the cutest Scottish accent. 8)

Wow, I didn't even realize they did a movie. I'll have to check it out.

I really liked the movie. I've heard though they made a lot of changes from the book, but since I've never read the book, that doesn't bother me. :) It was directed by the same guy who did Goonies. :D I like Goonies. I like Timeline. I guess I like this director then. :winky

Here's a link to a picture (http://media.movieweb.com/galleries/889/554/hi/co9.jpg) from the movie. I would post it here, but it's kind of big. From left to right the characters are Andre, Kate, and Chris.

Oh, I will probably like it then. I love the Goonies. One of my all time favorite movies.

Oh, I notice De Ker is played by Marton Csokas. I really like this actor.

Makes you wonder why they have a gate to that weird world that the Russians thought was water.

The Stargate system was put in place millions of years ago. Planets can and do go through drastic environmental changes. No doubt "Waterworld" was a safe planet for humanoids when the 'gate was placed there.

I thought (or I could be wrong) they figured out that it wasn't water.

The water in "Watergate" was a lifeform...one that had adapted and consisted in and of water. The assumption here is that the 'gate wasn't submerged in whatever it was when it was placed there by the Ancients.
