If you could trade places with one of the characters on Stargate SG-1, who would you trade places with? You would assume their lives, triumphs, heartaches, struggles, victories, etc... Their life would become your life. And forget the gender issue. If you're female and wanted to have Jack's life, you can imagine it that you would be a female in Jack's role. Or if you're male and wanted to have Sam's life, you would be a male in Sam's role.

So it's not really about any love interests they may or may not have had, but their life experiences. So, for example, if you were female and would prefer to have Daniel's life, you could imagine it had been your husband taken by the Goa'uld.

All just for fun. You might not want any of their lives, but if you did have to choose one, who might you choose?

I went with Sam for the reason that she seems to have the least amount of heartache in life. Jack has experienced the tragic death of his only child and the divorce (I think they actually got divoriced) of his spouse. His best friend Kawalsky was taken over by a Goa'uld and he had to kill him. And Skaara was taken over by a Goa'uld (I don't know what happened to him though). Daniel had his wife turned into a Goa'uld and ultimately was killed. His parents died tragically when he was a young boy and he witnessed it. Teal'c had to leave his wife and son behind and his wife ultimately died. I don't think Sam has had personal tragedies like that.

And unlike Hammond, she gets to go through the gate and have the adventures. :)

I could be mistaken, but didn't Sam's mother die when she was very young. Then this past season her father passed away. She also couldn't act on her love for Jack, most of her boyfriends have died and the one that didn't she gave up. And, to my knowledge, she still doesn't know if Narim is alive or dead.

Let's not forget the feelings she had when they couldn't find Jack for, I think it was 3 months.

Although, perhaps, not the caliber of Jack and Daniel, she is not without heartache.

Parents passing away is different than spouse or child. We expect our parents to die long before we do, that's normal. But to lose your spouse so young or your child is far more devastating to a person. We don't expect or want to outlive our children and we want to grow old with the one we married.

Sam - parents have died.
Daniel - parents have died and wife has died.
Teal'c - parents have died and wife has died.
Jack - son has died and probably parents (since we've never seen or heard of them)

Sam's situation is better as I see it.

What boyfriends of hers have died? The Ancient guy isn't dead, now he's a kid which is just weird. But he was never her boyfriend. Narim was never her boyfriend. The Deluise guy is still alive (I think he was her first boyfriend in the series.) Jonas wasn't her boyfriend anymore when he died. Her husband in 2010 never became her boyfriend because the timeline was changed.

Sure she has heartache, but as you said, not on the same caliber. I think I could deal with my parents deaths better than my child or spouse.

Sam did say her and the Ancient were "intimate". And, although "technically" her a Narim were not "dating" they definately had feelings for each other.

Yeah, hard not to have feelings for a good looking, hopeless romantic guy who has a crush on you. ;) Wish I could meet a guy like him!

Sam. Her track record is slightly better than the others' and I can definitely see an upside to being as smart as she is.
