This is what it says over at Gateworld...

Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter") told fans in a live online chat with The Amanda Tapping Club that she will not be in all 20 episodes of Stargate SG-1 for Season Ten. She did confirm that she will make crossover appearances on Atlantis.

"I don't know what is in store for Season Ten," Tapping said. "I know that I won't be in all 20 episodes of SG-1. I do also know that I will be doing some crossover episodes in Atlantis. So, again, I don't know for sure how many of each I will be in, but the majority will be SG-1."
That's rather vague and cryptic I think.

If Amanda is wanting out of the show now too, they really do need to cancel the show. Don't force it to go on with only half of the original team - it won't work, especially when the two who are getting out are Jack and Sam. We have three new key characters - Hammond has been replaced, Jack has been replaced, and Frasier has been replaced. Now it seems they're wanting to replace Sam with Vala - WHAT THE HECK?!

The show doesn't feel the same anymore. Daniel's no longer the lovable geek, Jack's gone, and after that last episode Sam feels totally different being ready to cheat on Jack.

It really feels to me like it's time to end the show. It's starting to feel weird and silly and the characters don't feel like themselves anymore.

Just my thoughts. The last show I really loved I ended up hating because I felt the show long outlived itself. I don't want to see SG-1 do the same thing.

I don't like the sound of that. Nothing against Vala, but she could never have a hope of replacing Sam.

I haven't seen Season Eight, but Season Nine feels so different than Season Seven. I don't think it's just the characters, although that is a big part.

If, out of the original sextet of Jack, Sam, Teal'c, Daniel, General Hammond and Janet, they could only keep two, Teal'c and Daniel would not be the ones I would have picked, especially given how much both character seem to have changed.

I like the characters, but I don't think that they will be able carry the show, especially if Cameron, Landry, Dr Lam and Vala are the best they can do in terms of back-up.

They'd be better off cancelling, maybe committing their resources to a movie instead and giving the show a big finish. It would probably be less time consuming for the actors, so they could hopefully still have Amanda Tapping and Richard Dean Anderson.

I think they will cancel it after the tenth season. I think they just wanted to push Stargate as far as would go because of the ratings. That and I think they wanted to be the longest running scifi show.

What would people think of starting another series based of Stargate SG1 such as Atlantis was. I was thinking about one that did a lot with the Asgard. I like the asgard.

They'd have to CGI the Asgard because the puppets movements can only do so much. Unless they get new bodies which I'm all for. I'm not sure I'd want them to be all that dominant though.

Maybe from an ascended point of view? That would be different.

I think they would really need to pick up on another legend and use that as the story base for the show to succeed. Stargate was based on the theory or legend that aliens built the pyramids. Atlantis is based on the legend of Atlantis. I think you would want to pick up on another legend for such a show to succeed.

How about Greek and Roman mythology as a base?

I'd love to see a series that could mix Stargate with Star Wars. Imagine if they found a gate address with say 12 symbols that took them to that galaxy far far away where they arrive on a desert world called Tatooine or maybe the city planet of Courisant where the Sith have taken over again?

I like this idea a lot!

Although I'm a huge Star Wars fan, there's no way I can ever imagine that happening. Besides, that stuff all happened "A long time ago..."

I think Stargate SG-1 is a great show. I have always liked it. I liked the first season, and I like the ninth. They're different, but that doesn't mean the show isn't as good now as it used to be. That's the way it is in real life. People change, people move. Change doesn't always have to be for the worse.

I totally agree with the feeling that the show we've always known is running out of steam, that it's beginning to die out. But, there's a whole new show taking it's place.

For example, the old SG-1 had dealings with the Tok'Ra and the Tollan, the new SG-1 has friends among the new Free Jaffa Nation. Where once we had the replicators, the Aschen, and the Reetou as the small-time enemies, we now have the Lucian Alliance, and what little remains of the Goa'uld under Baal. Where once it was Kinsey trying to gain control of the Stargate, and the U.S. government that SG-1 had to prove itself to, now it is the Chinese government, and other world powers breathing down their necks.

Although I would definitely agree with the decision to end the show after 10 seasons (if that's what they decide to do), I also think this show could easily keep going. Someone, in a reply above, said something about another spin-off, I say SG-1 seasons 9 and following pretty much are a spin-off of SG-1 seasons 1-8. Not only that, it's a spin off that has lots of the same characters from the original, how awesome is that?!

What if the Ancients and the Ori go to war? What if they destroy eachother, or end up in a perpetual state of battle or whatever the way Oma and Anubis did? What if a fleet of Ori spaceships gets trapped in this galaxy and can't get home, and we have a war of our own? What if we meet the Furlings? What if they're evil? What if, after the Ori are defeated, the Ancients stop hiding our galaxy from the rest of the universe? What if there's more bad guys out there who we were being protected from before, and we didn't even know it? What if Daniel and Vala get married? What if the minds behind the show begin to actually show us some of Dr. Lam? What if Cassandra is finally grown up and wants to join the Stargate Program?

What about the Lucian Alliance? What about all the Baals? What about the possibility that some Replicators still exist, that weren't in our galaxy at the time of Reckoning? What about the Aschen (they're still out there, you know)? What about Harlan!?!?! He's all by himself now!

All that being said, I also think (as I mentioned above) ending the show after season 10 would be a good move as well. It's about time Teal'c returned full-time to Rya'c and the rest of the Jaffa. It's also about time Daniel got to see Atlantis and unlock all the mysteries of the universe. It's also about time Sam gets to marry Jack, and they live together by that lake that actualy does have fish in it after all, and the most pressing matter in their lives is whether or not to get a dog. I think they've earned it.

Right, I know Star Wars happened a long, long time ago. My idea was that they would arrive in that galaxy in what would be the far distant future from everything we saw in the Star Wars movies. The Sith have taken over again.

Actually, I think it would be way cool if they met up with a race of people who looked like Darth Maul.

They could make a spin-off series about the SGC. Apparantly that's what they wanted to do with this season of SG-1. It just doesn't work when you've still got SG-1 on the show. But I think a show about the SGC alone would get boring.

Now, a show about an off-world base would be a lot more interesting.
