These names are all Irish surnames...

O'Neill (O'Neil), Weir, Sheppard, McKay, Beckett. Just thought that was interesting.

Interesting as I thought Weir was a German name. Of course, that was an assumption based on the spelling.

I saw Weir in a listing of Irish surnames on a web site. I didn't think it would be Irish either.

I find that kind of stuff quite interesting myself. Especially since I rarely find my maiden name "anywhere".

Do you know your genealogy? I'm a lot of things but mostly Irish.

I'm Mexican and Filipino. However, my maiden name was my fathers "adopted" last name. His mother married, he adopted the kids and shortly later left her and so she never talks about him. So, no one seems to know where the name came from.

I once found a single website that said it meant "tower of God", but I cannot remember what site it was and where the name was derived from.

It was awhile back. I'll have to see if I can track it down again.

Maybe he came from the tower of Babel? :duck

Actually, if he was your father's adoptive father, I would think the genealogy of that name would be of little relevance since it's not actually your bloodline. Just thinking outloud.

I thought about that too. But, it's the only name he's had since we was a toddler, so that's it for him.

As near as I can tell, I'm all Irish.

Do you know where in Ireland your family originates?
