Has anyone else seen the Director's cut of the movie?

Something interesting. In Stargate SG-1, they showed that if a gate has been buried, it is impossible to dial it up and get a wormhole. However, in the Director's cut of the movie, at the beginning right after the Stargate is raised in Gaza and the old guy asks what it is, there is some shouting and they rush down to the Stargate. Directly beneath the Stargate, they see a fossil of two of Ra's men in their helmets. In the commentary, the writers said that the thought behind that was that they had tried to come through the Stargate after it had been buried and became instant fossils.

Now the Director's cut had not been released when the series started and the creators of the movie have never had anything to do with the tv series. So it's possible that the people in charge of the tv show never knew the creators of the movie had intended it to be this way. That you can dial up a buried Stargate, but it is disasterous if you go through. The opposite of the tv series where it won't establish a wormhole with a buried gate.

This was also an important find for understanding why Jack was selected to go on a suicide mission. Another added scene was right after Daniel said he was sure he could dial home, Jack walked off and went to a room where that fossil was hanging like an exhibit. General West came into the room as well and Jack said, "You know this complicates things." So it was designed for the movie that Jack had an idea of the danger they were up against, thus his suicide mission had a reason behind it.

Other added scenes. . .

The scene of escaping right after Daniel was supposed to kill Jack and the others and the shepherd boys helping them escape was a little more lengthy. It was a very Star Wars looking scene with Jack and Daniel collapsing in the desert at night in a sandstorm - looked very much like Luke and Han collapsing on the ice world of Hoth. Then Jack and Daniel were rescued by the shepherd boys.

The scene right after they entered the city and saw the Ra sun symbol and all the people bowed down. In the movie, it only showed the doors closing and the sand storm hitting the city. In the director's cut, as soon as the horn sounded and the doors began to close, Jack freaked out. He raced back to the gate and knocked a couple people out to try and get the door open. He and his men fired off their weapons to keep the Abydos people away and Jack ordered Daniel to come to them, which he did. Then Skaara came up saying something and pointing upwards, motioning for Jack to follow. Jack did, Daniel began to follow but Jack told him to stay there. Jack climbed to the top of the gate with Skaara and looked out to see the sand storm. When Kawalsky asked what it was, Jack told him and Kawalsky released the guy he had in a head lock, went to Skaara's father and tried apologizing. It was a fun scene to watch.

The scene where Daniel woke up in the sarcophagus after being killed was slightly lengthened.

There were more scenes with Ferretti and the other men.

I haven't seen the directors cut either but now that you have pointed out what was added it would be really interesting to watch (might have to see if I can find it)

In the scene after Jack went up with Skaara to realize a sandstorm was coming down and Kawalsky asked, Jack shouted, "Sandstorm!" Daniel then made the sarcastic comment, "Well that would have been a great reason to shoot everyone." (something like that)

I've only ever seen the Director's Cut.

Is there anything in the original movie that isn't in the Director's cut?

Directly beneath the Stargate, they see a fossil of two of Ra's men in their helmets.

Maybe they were killed and buried with the stargate when the Egyptians rebelled.

I said above that it was said by the writer and director in the commentary that they were fossilized because they came through the buried gate and materialized into rock.

I wasn't guessing on that, that's what the guys who made the movie said.

Director's Cuts never take anything out of the original movie, they're all about adding more to the original.
