I know Tela once told Shepp that he didn't understand certain thing because he wasn't close with anyone (paraphrasing here).
Does anyone ever recall whether or not he mentioned if he had any siblings? I've long "assumed" his parents are passed away.

I do not recall. When Atlantis season one comes on the market, I'm going to get it, and rewatch the first episode.

The first episode is already on DVD. How come the first season isn't out yet since season 8 SG-1 is? I would have assumed they'd have been released at the same time.

I saw that the first episode was out but I was waiting for the whole season. I heard it was comming out end of October early November? If it is out allready I have not seen it yet.

My wife and I buy xmass gifts all year long and keep them in a big box in the barn. So by this time of the year we are mostly done.

If I were to guess, I would guess he is a youngest child. His attitude I think resembles a youngest child's more. If he was an oldest child, I think he'd be more self-disciplined. Though that's not always the case with oldest siblings, if he's been a part of structured military for all these years and he was an oldest child, I'm sure he'd be more structed and stable than he is. As it is, he's a bit of a rebel who just wants to have fun. So either youngest or middle, but I would guess youngest.
If I could write this character's family, I would write that he has an older brother and an older sister. His brother would be the oldest and the sister in the middle. His personality would clash greatly with his brother and not so much with his sister. I'd say his sister was the peacemaker more or less in the family.
I would have his brother also be in the military and be assigned to go to Atlantis. Not sure what kind of rank I would give him though. I think that would add a very interesting element for John if he had a big brother come to Atlantis who is more structured military and that the two of them didn't get along at all and to see their relationship mend over time. It would be something new for the world of Stargate to explore such an idea. The closest would be having seen Amanda and her dad's relationship start out rocky and mend, but still Jacob was not around much because he was on other worlds with the Tok'ra. To have Shep's bro be recurring on a more regular basis would be something new.

I really like that idea. His older brother reoccuring during the season. That would be extremely interesting. But, he'd have to be as hot as JF. LOL!
Do you think it's possible that his character has been written from the stand point of an only child? I have a few friends who are only children who tend to exhibit similar behavior, but much more extreme.
