Are you on Facebook or Twitter? Maybe you use Digg or MySpace? Whatever your poison, now you can help spread the word about Stargate Forum by posting a link to the threads you're involved with! In the top left corner of every thread page, you'll now find a "Share" button. Simply hover your mouse over the button, pick a site, and it'll let you post the link to that thread on all of your favourite social networking sites. It couldn't be easier!

And if you're not a member of any of those sites, it's probably the end of the world. But in case it's not, they're usually completely free to register with. Once you're signed up, you can bring more people to our forums by posting those links. So go. Help spread the word right now. The galaxy depends on it!

I can do my best, probaly bring some of my family in, Stargate buffs that they are. But as an Administrator of a Dept. of Defence forum here in Australia, may I make a couple of suggestions.
1/ Post count for Avatars and signatures.
In my experience, spammers and the like, quickly retreat when you either a/ ignore them or, b/ keep deleting their posts. That being said, it is highly off putting to a lot of potential members to have to have the "Priveledge" of waiting months to use their own sigs and avvies. The majority of Forums today, and that's the decent ones, will allow you to use a signature after "Probie" status, which is usuallu around twenty posts or so. Custom avvies, are generally allowed from start up. If the moderators don't like it, you simply tell them and remove it.

2/ "The other Guys" Why is this thread "Off Topic" This doesn't really make sense, as it is generally the FanFic threads that sometimes can be the most popular.

Some of these implementations were made because of extreme issues with spammers. It wasn't as simple as you stated. It was a serious problem. However, you make good points and the admins can discuss changing or leaving the rules as is.

As for the "other guys" I'm not sure what you mean off topic. It was simply a name given for the forum. It has an explanation for what is held within the forum.

Thank you for your suggestions. If any changes are to be made, a site wide announcement will be made.

Thank you,

Spamming is still a serious problem, but we have a program in place to stop/pause all people who sign up. We do this so we can check IP address' with a site so we don't get them posting on the forum.

I am not quite sure about the 'off topic' either...

As in your post count remains unchanged whenever posting there.

I may have been wrong, but I think I read somewhere, that the "Other Guys" ie fanfiction thread held no post points. That is classed as an "Off Topic" thread. Only threads that count as post points are classed as Topic threads, this is common to all forums. And yes spamming is still a big problem, even in the defence thread I help run, we spend more time flitering out the junk posts, than we do the real ones. Oh and one last, more Stargate themed smileys please, there are a zillion available:D

There may be a 'zillion' available, but there are many restrictions on those said 'zillion' SG smileys.

We are currently looking into it...

Yep, and if you look at the disclaimer...that is the reason so many of them are not here. There is a limit to how many we can have on this site.
We are not allowed to just take with out permission and put them here.

We have to be a Good little site and not make enemies. XDXDXD
