The search for Conan is over, as "Stargate Atlantis" star Jason Momoa has been cast as Robert E. Howard's famous Cimmerian warrior.

Deadline Hollywood reports that the previously rumored Momoa is in negotiations to star as Conan in Marcus Nispel's upcoming reinvention of the classic fantasy hero. The news couldn't come soon enough given the fact that production on "Conan" is slated to begin on March 15 in Bulgaria.

By securing the role of Conan, Momoa beat out rival competitor Kellan Lutz, the "Twilight" actor that confirmed his status as a "Conan" contender just last week.

According to the report, Nispel was already sold on Momoa for the film's lead but the folks at Millennium Films, Lionsgate and rights holder Paradox Entertainment weren't as convinced. After shooting test footage with Momoa, however, Nispel was able to sway the film's backers, leading to the latest casting.

Nice for Jason to get the role. But he's got a hard role to fill. Got to fit some big sandles. There will be comparisons between him and Arnie. Good luck to Mr Momoa in his efforts. It's a little chilly right now in Bulgaria for loin cloths and swords isn't it? XD

CM, you might want to Google: Conan the Barbarian comics, books by Robert E. Howard. Also Conan the Barbarian movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, ( you know the original Terminator dude) Hope this helps you a bit to understand the situation. :)

Conan is basically a story about a young boy who's village gets raided. All the sons (maybe daughters too?) get rounded up and forced into slave labour until they die. Conan was a particularly resilient sort though, and he managed to survive the slave labour. His masters saw this too, and made him fight for their enjoyment. One day, he managed to break free from his masters, and he went on a quest to hunt down the man responsible for wiping out his village.

Best scene in the Arnie films? Camel punch. I was in stitches when I first saw it! XD

It doesn't surprise me. The movies came out many years before he was born and it wasn't a series that most parents told their kids "you have got to see this". Not like it played a lot on the tube either.

The first one was VERY good.

I agree. The first one was good. Then they made the mistake in the sequal of giving him a lot of lines. The only saving grace in that movie was Sarah Douglas. She played the evil queen. CM, you would know Sarah Douglas as the Tok'ra Garshaw in The Tokra part 1 and 2 episodes from SG-1.
