Don't say you haven't been warned.
This was posted two days ago at Gateworld. And yes, Atlantis has been renewed for a second season. But here's the major spoiler, and I think you'll agree with me that it sound very, very cool.
"If everything goes according to plan, there will be a little bit of crossover right at the end of Season Eight and at the end of Atlantis [Season One]," Cooper said, "and the storylines will converge. And in Season Two of Atlantis there will be much more crossover between the worlds. They will no longer be isolated in Pegasus. There will be trips home to Earth, and characters from SG-1 visiting Atlantis, and so forth and so on. So it's not really the same as Voyager in that they're not always going to be trapped in Pegasus."

I think it's a smart idea to have them reconnect with earth this early in the series. Makes it a smidgen less like Star Trek. ;)
Anyway, I wonder if this means we're going to see Simon more. After all, he was Dr. Weir's boyfriend and unlike Capt. Janeway's boyfriend in Voyager, he doesn't think she's dead, so he could be holding out hope of her coming back, thus hasn't entered into another relationship yet and if so, not so far into it that he couldn't break it off.
I get the impression that somebody involved with the show likes this actor, seeing as how they brought him into at least three SG-1 episodes as his Tolan character and have used him as Weir's boyfriend in two episodes already in Atlantis. I wouldn't be surprised if becomes a regular on the show once they reconnect with Earth, even being allowed to go to Atlantis. Because I certainly don't see her hooking up with any of the guys at Atlantis. At least no one from earth.
Now I'm really curious what they're going to do about who's in charge militarily once the reconnect. Because Major Sheppard was not the ranking officer that was sent on this mission and has only assumed control because the highest one was killed.
Although Jack's now in charge of SG-1. Hammond would not let Major Carter take command of SG-1 when they believed Jack to go awall. (sp?) Because she was only a major and according to him that was a far cry from Colonel. But Jack isn't Hammond, yet Jack probably understands the importance of having a higher ranking officer.
But Shep is the top star of the show (has his name first in the credits and all). I just can't see them putting in a higher ranking officer who isn't in the main cast of characters. But even if he got promoted, I believe Captain is the next rank, so he still wouldn't be a Colonel.

Actually, Samantha Carter is a LTC/COL and if Maj Sheppard were to be promoted, he would be the same rank as Sam (but with less time in grade). I think they set it up that way on purpose.
And considering they have to work around Amanda Tappings pregnancy, they will probably keep her relatively close to Earth towards the end of the season.

I keep messing that up. She started as Captain and then became Major, not the other way around. But even if he got promoted, he wouldn't have the same rank that Jack had in the first seven seasons of SG-1.
I can't wait for them to get back to earth and explain how they woke up an enemy worse than the Goa'ulds. Although at the moment, I'm more interested in seeing how the cliffhanger we're waiting on turns out. I hate cliffhangers that last months!

Well, the cliff hanger played last night, so hopefully, a new episode will be very soon.

Probably not until the same time as SG-1 resumes which won't be until late January. Did you see the preview for next week's episode?

No, that's why I'm not getting my hopes up.

I honestly don't understand their seasonal schedule. Why do they split the season apart by so many months during a time when most tv shows are showing new episodes?
Did you have a baby recently NewFanAllAround?

No. My youngest is 16 months old. When I say "My Baby Is Coming Home", I'm talking about the hubby coming home from Afghanistan.

Because they won't have to compete with championships, world series, basketball, football and superbowl. And if you really pay attention, most throw a couple of reruns in there anyway AND watch how many mini series start to show up.

I would love to have an alternative to watching football and basketball, especially since I don't watch them. However, the Superbowl is in February this year, so the new episodes will be on during that. However, new episodes come on Friday and the Superbowl is Sunday, so new episodes would never compete with the Superbowl.
