lost city or lost continent?

Everything I ever remember hearing about Atlantis was that it was a continent. Has there been much in writing suggesting that it was only a city?

Thought it was an island. Whether it was an island, continent or just a city, probably has to do with how the story has been passed down over the years.

I've heard all of the above, so.... but, until SGA, I've heaerd continent most often...
