View Full Version : Theory about the Wraith

It's something I was thinking about last night as I was drifting off to sleep.

What if the Wraith were once Ancients? We know the Ancients eventually ascended into higher lifeforms, but it's also likely that not all the Ancients were good guys, just like not all Humans are good guys as it is with most lifeforms. Even Goa'ulds - Goa'ulds are bad, To'kra are good, yet they are essentially the same kind of creature.

In the episode of SG-1 where they discovered a perfectly preserved Ancient in the ice in Antartica who came back to life, she showed very strong reginative healing ability. The Wraith have clear reginative healing ability. Despite them looking different, they both seem to be made of the same stuff.

Now my theory isn't that the Wraith are what all Ancients would have turned into if they had chosen not to ascend. But that some of the Ancients, bad Ancients, somehow became Wraith, thus becoming the Ancients number one enemy.

This could also lead to the possibility that there was more than one reason for them to bury Atlantis.

Just a theory, I'm not sure how strong it is. If it's so, how did the bad Ancients become Wraith? Scientific experiments gone bad perhaps?

I think it would make an extremely interesting plot twist if this is so.

That's a very interesting theory.

I guess we will have to just wait and see. Although, I'm thinking, wouldn't they know about Atlantis regardless if they hid it or not?

Maybe the Ancients knew that the only way to keep the Wraith away from their city was to submerge. That could indicate that the Wraith have a problem with water. Can't swim - might have something to do with their molecular structure because we know their physical bodies are extremely different on even a molecular level than humans. Perhaps their vessels can not travel underwater. This could be interesting if it's their weakness. And if it is, that gives the Atlantis team a serious advantage being on a planet that seems to be mostly made up of water with very little land.

Technically speaking, if they can ever get Atlantis to full power, they would be able to submerge it at will I would think. Or maybe not, maybe it takes too much energy or time or whatever to do it.

I think if the Wraith were once Ancients, that would make for a very interesting plot twist or back story.

I've been thinking of something. Can you imagine if they made a Stargate Series based on the Ancients - a series which takes place thousands of years ago before humans. We know the Ancients looked human, so it wouldn't be hard to cast it. I'm pretty sure that the Asgard back then didn't look like they do now. We could see in that series the uniting of the four races - Ancients, Asgard, Furlings, and Nox. We could see the Ancients leave this galaxy and go to the Pegasus galaxy. We could see their fight with the Wraith and the series could end with their ascension.

Doesn't that sound like a cool idea for a tv series? I'd watch it.

Kind of close. Not sure if the people who got infected by those bugs were Ancients or not.
