updated again. i captured the gate... it's mienz! now we have the first published screenshot of the new gate! :cool:

apparently, that scene is mid-evacuation to the destiny. so i wonder if they're coming from off-world relative to sgc, or some kind of attack or tragic accident at the sgc. they all look to be in a bit of a frenzy, either way. also, more information about the destiny says that the ship was never meant to support life. it was meant to be an entirely automated ship. so i'd guess the gate is there purely for emergency repair situations. the size of the ship is (according to carlyle) 3 to 4 aircraft carriers. he doesn't say though if that's end to end, side by side or stacked. just that it's bloody big!

the new gate: click the thumbnail for a larger version (new window). i'm not keen on the new design from just that split-second shot of it in the preview. the chevrons look too wide and short. but this gate apparently has an entirely new way of operating. so i'm looking forward to seeing how that works out. incidently, i tried updating my stargate topsites banner with a section from the new gate - quality's too poor to even photoshop into place. think i'll hold out for some hd gate shots. as soon as i find one, everyone's topsite banner on everyone's sites will be updated to show the new gate section.

the destiny must carry a fair few zpm's too. far out in the middle of nowhere, emergency hits and alterans go to fix it. they have to be able to get back to wherever. it probably has a zpm production room like atlantis.

Wow...I just watched the preview on YouTube, and I have to say I've changed my mind...I was worried about it, but now I'm optimistic. I can't wait!

Hmm...must be something wrong with my comp. Pic looks cool, Ang...thanks. The thing from SciFi makes it sound like some humans will be the bad guys, instead of an alien race they meet. It'll be interesting to see how it works out. And the part about food, water, and air sounds interesting too. I didn't realize the Destiny was gonna be like that, I thought maybe it was designed to support a crew if necessary. Sounds cool!

I agree completely. I was thinking the very same thing about it being similar to BSG. I also noticed Lou Diamond Phillips in it, so it might be interesting. He is a very good actor.

I also have to say it looks WAAAY better than I thought it would...for a bit there it seemed like it was gonna be highschool drama that just happened to be in space. This looks great.

Well, I don't really watch "TV" anymore, now that I've discovered streaming video sites...if you can find decent quality, it's nice to have no commercials. And timewise, it's not actually that far behind. So I'll probably be watching SGU about a week behind all you guys on the internet. Might as well watch it, definitely.

Last night they showed Stargate: Arc of Truth on the Sci-Fi channel and several times during the movie they showed the trailer for Universe. I was able to get a clearer picture of what it was like. It may have potential. I might watch the first few eps and see what it is like. If I am not impress I will stop watching it.
