This one goes out to all the BeckettI know are around here

Carson was busily stacking away the new supplies the Daedalus had brought when Radek hurried into the infirmary.
'Carson, there's two more crates waiting for you on board the Daedalus.' he called, stopping near the half emptied crates.
'tell them to beam them straight to my quarters, I'll deal with them later.' Carson replied, not looking up from his task.
'Colonel Caldwell is under strict orders not to release them without your signature. They've come a long way and look to be very, very important according to Colonel Caldwell.' Radek explained, confusion written all over his face. Carson sighed and turned away from the unpacking before triggering his radio.
'Colonel Caldwell, I believe ye have an important delivery for me.' he radioed, one foot tapping impatiently.
'yes, all the way from London. I am under orders not to release the two crates from the ship without your signature and presence.' Caldwell replied, also slightly confused.
'very well, I will be out shortly.' Carson agreed, setting a few more supplies on the shelf before turning and walking out of the infirmary, telling one of the nurses to finish the unpacking as he left.

Striding onto the Daedalus, Carson headed straight for the bridge. Caldwell looked up from his mission report when the concerned Scot entered the bridge, looking around quickly.
'this way please Carson, your crates are in the hold.' he called, rising to his feet and heading out of the bridge, Carson right behind him.
'what do ye know about these mysterious crates from London?' Carson asked, falling into step beside Caldwell.
'not much actually. They were delivered by a contingent of British army personnel and they seemed to know you quite well. All I was told was to keep the crates onboard until you signed for them personally.' Caldwell replied with a shrug.
'British army personnel? What are they doing delivering stuff for me?' Carson uttered, entering the cargo hold and approaching the two crates. Curiosity won out as he signed the form sitting on top before opening one of the crates. Going slightly red, he slammed the crate closed again and turned back to Caldwell.
'kindly beam these crates straight to my quarters. I will accompany them there.' he instructed, unable to believe what was sitting right in front of him.
'of course, Hermiod did you get that?' Caldwell replied, curiosity growing.
'yes Colonel. Beaming now.' Hermiod added, whisking Carson and his crates away.

Carson didn't return to the infirmary that afternoon, causing concern to spread throughout the section.
'I'll go see what's keeping him.' Dr. Keller commented, finishing the unpacking and indicating for the Daedalus to retrieve them.
'no time, send someone who's not so busy. Ronon's daily Marine contingent just arrived.' one of the nurses replied, already in action. Keller sighed and rolled her eyes as she triggered her radio.
'Dr. Zelenka, are you busy?' she asked, getting back to work.
'not really, Rodney is off world so I have time. What do you need Dr. Keller?' Radek replied, totally relaxed.
'would you mind going to see what is keeping Dr. Beckett. He said he would only be a few minutes, it's been almost an hour now.' Keller explained, smiling slightly.
'of course, I'll go and check on him now. I'll let you know what is keeping him. Zelenka out.' Radek agreed before breaking the connection.

Carson looked up from his work when the door chimed. Sighing softly, he opened the door with a lazy thought and kept working, polishing the uniform before him with practised care.
'Carson, Jennifer is concerned you are not back in the infirmary.' Radek called, entering the room and stopping dead in his tracks, staring at the glistening uniform
'oh, I lost track of time. A small part of me can nae let go of this part o' my past and wha' this uniform means to me.' Carson replied, looking up from the helmet in his hands.
'what uniform is this Carson? I did not know you were in the military.' Radek enquired, sitting on Carson's desk chair.
'I was a member of the Queen's Cavalry many years ago. I was part of The Blues And Royals and looked resplendent in this very uniform. Because of my medical training, I was the official medic when we were on ceremonial duty. I had a special black leather medical kit that had to be kept in perfect order at all times, just in case I was needed. I had a few moments of close contact with Her Majesty, earning her respect and the respect of my peers.' Carson explained, smiling softly as he dusted off his helmet and set it aside before digging out the plume to sit on top. Lift fingers traced through the red hair before he set the plume into place and smiled.
'I never would have thought you would be in something so special. Looking at this, you must have looked quite amazing.' Radek added, eyes wide as he took in all the uniform pieces.
'oh aye, take a look at this.' Carson agreed, setting his helmet down and offering Radek a photo frame. He took it carefully and turned it over, eyes going wide as he looked at the younger Carson, sitting astride his fine horse.
'you look even more magnificent than I had imagined. A fine horse too.' Radek remarked, setting the photo on the desk with a grin.
'aye, Scimitar. He was a fine mount and I was proud to ride him. He was a spirited gelding, never gave me a problem. Twice we won best turned out cavalryman and horse, after many long and sleepless nights on my behalf.' Carson agreed, smiling warmly.
'is just a shame you can no longer wear this uniform, I would have liked to see what you looked like in person, not just in a photo.' Radek lamented, shaking his head slowly.
'actually Radek, I've been looking this over and I've got a feeling this uniform has been modified so it will fit me now. I don't know how they knew what size I needed now but they've done it.' Carson added, holding the breastplate against his chest.
'why would they go to such trouble for a retired cavalryman?' Radek asked, smiling again.
'I have no idea but I can still try. Would certainly stop the Wraith if it does fit and I'm still comfortable in my uniform.' Carson replied, smiling widely as he looked the entire uniform over again.
'we can investigate this more later Carson. When Jennifer radioed me, things sounded a little busy in the infirmary.' Radek suggested, snapping right back to his reason for coming to find Carson.
'aye, after work tonight. I will need yer help to get into my cuirasse. I just hope I can remember the jackboot waddle.' Carson agreed, returning everything to the crates before rising and following Radek out of his quarters.

That evening, Radek returned to Carson's quarters, this time armed with a pair of plain cotton gloves his sister had sent him. Carson had warned him to cover his hands to protect the finish on the highly polished cuirasse. He could completely understand that, remembering the pride he had in his own uniform, now many years in the past.

Stepping into the room, he stopped and stared at Carson, half dressed in his new uniform. He was just finishing with straightening his tunic as he turned to face the smaller man.
'ah Radek, I was right. This uniform fits just as it should, allowing for all the changes that have occurred in the intervening years. What do ye think?' Carson smiled, turning slowly.
'magnificent Carson, truly magnificent. Ah but to see you on horse back.' Radek replied, completely awed by Carson's change. Carson smiled softly, dropping his head as he blushed slightly.
'we can dream Radek, there I will ride the finest stallion just for you.' he uttered, approaching the stunned Czech, the two halves of the cuirasse in his hands.
'have always had soft place for men in uniform.' Radek muttered in Czech under his breath before taking the back-plate and lifting it into place as Carson settled the chest plate into place.

With a little work, they fitted the cuirasse into position and secured the straps before turning their attention to the rest of the uniform. Cartridge box, med kit, braids and ribbons and finally his boots before Carson carefully picked his helmet up and running his fingers through the plume before setting it on his head and pushing the chinstrap into the perfect spot. That done, he turned back to Carson, sword held lightly in his right hand and left positioned as if holding the reins of a fine Cavalry Black.
'wow, such a transformation I have never seen. You are not the same man, so much is changed.' Radek remarked, rubbing his eyes before going right back to staring.
'och Radek, I'm still here, it's still the same me. It's the magic of the uniform, once I'm in this, I can't help but hold my head high with pride.' Carson replied, eyes twinkling with merriment.
I can see why Carson, a uniform like that is something to be very proud of. Will you ever show this side in public?' Radek agreed, smiling warmly as he picked up the discarded duster and lightly polished the breastplate again.
'aye, one day I might but no' now and probably not for a while. I think I just need time to get used ta having this back and become reaccustomed to wearing such a heavy uniform. I promise ye Radek, one day I will walk the corridors in my uniform, albeit without my boots.' Carson grinned, turning around slowly in an attempt to return to those times in his past when he had ridden so close to the royal carriage.

THREE MONTHS LATER

Carson couldn't believe it when he got a second special delivery that needed to be signed for. What he found in the cargo hold was definitely no what he was expecting. Struggling to his feet after being awoken from three weeks stasis, a familiar black stallion shook his head to clear the last fogginess before turning to Carson and nickering.
'Scimitar! What are ye doing here lad?' Carson asked, approaching the fine horse slowly. Scimitar looked at Carson closely before lowering his head and lightly butting Carson's' shoulder.
'I missed you too Scimitar, come on, let's get ye off this ship and settled in.' he added, lightly stroking his horses' neck.
'there was several crates also included with this shipment. Those ones over there.' Caldwell added, indicating a varied collection of crates stacked on the far side of the hold.
'ah, thank ye Colonel. Ye wait here Scimitar, I'll see about finding ye somethin' ta eat.' Carson replied, giving Scimitar one more loving pat before heading towards the crates.

Cracking the first one, Carson found exactly what he was holing for; all Scimitar's tack, lovingly polished and carefully packed. Another revealed food and Scimitar's favourite old feed net.
'ye obviously knew what was coming this time.' he remarked, finding that the largest crate was packed with rolls of turf.
'oh yes, it was hard to miss this fine horse when he was dropped off outside the main gate. The grass was a late addition, after we figured you would prefer to keep your horse close to you at all times. We also have a stable complex ready to be installed wherever you think it will fit best.' Caldwell grinned, joining Carson by the crates.
'I'll have ta take Scimitar for a ride to see where he likes it the best. Was there any kind o' letter with this delivery, I'm no' sure I understand why this is happening?' Carson asked, digging out the tack and returning to Scimitar, resting the saddle on the side of the stasis chamber.
'actually, there was. I've got it right here. I decided it would be best to keep it close to hand, in case anyone thought they deserved to know that answer.' Caldwell replied, handing Carson a fine white envelope. Settling the saddle blanket carefully into position before taking the envelope and staring at it. Right there was the royal seal, daring him to argue with the contents. With shaking hands, he opened the envelope, careful not to damage the royal seal on the front. Withdrawing the neatly penned letter inside and leant against the stasis chamber to read it.

After reading it through it twice, he neatly refolded the letter and turned to Scimitar.
'what a retirement hey Scimitar, just like old times. Come on old timer, let's get ye tacked up and out of this place.' Carson grinned, pocketing the letter and returning his attention to his horse.
'what did it say, if you don't mind telling me?' Caldwell asked, leaning on the nearest crate.
'Her Majesty and the squadron were so enamoured with my service in The Blues And Royals they have decided to give me a place as a life member of The Queen's Cavalry. The last special delivery ye dropped off was my uniform and now ye've delivered my horse, the very same horse I rode back then. We saw so many special occasions together and now we will go on until death together, trusting in each other constantly.' Carson replied with a grin, not looking away from tacking Scimitar up, gentle hands soothing the restless horse. Caldwell nodded and signalled to the man standing behind him. He understood instantly and hurried away, readying the ramps so Scimitar could get down from the ship.

With the tacking finished, Carson swung into the saddle, finding his position quickly. Scimitar tossed his head a few times before stepping off and out of the small enclosure. Smiling warmly, Carson guided Scimitar forward and out of the cargo hold.
'I'll radio ye when we find the perfect place for Scimitar's new home.' Carson added with a grin before walking off, man and horse in perfect tune with each other.

The little stable complex was set up on the east pier, well away from anything that could disturb Scimitar. The fine grass was laid down in the outside run and in the larger paddock beyond that. Carson knew Scimitar wouldn't escape as long as he knew everything was okay and Carson was never far away.
'tha's a good boy Scimitar, ye're home now and perfectly safe in yer new enclosure. I'll be back later with my closest friend and we'll ride together, in all our glory.' Carson whispered, stroking Scimitar's flank lightly before leaving the enclosure and making sure the gate was closed properly before walking away. Scimitar neighed as Carson walked away, letting Carson know he was still around. Carson chuckled to himself as he entered the city, remembering past times when Scimitar had done exactly the same thing.

TWO WEEKS LATER
#+#+#+#+#+#

Carson returned a few hours later with his uniform packed in two bags in Radek's arms and the shorter man walked beside Carson. In own hands, Carson carried his boots, his helmet resting lightly in the other hand. Radek also had a third bag, specially shipped by his sister. Together, they would rock Atlantis and show a completely different side of who they were.
'time to get kitted up Scimitar, we're going to put on a display for our friends.' Carson called, setting his uniform in the tack shed and grabbing Scimitar's gear. Radek couldn't resist the fine horse and approached the fence, content just to watch Scimitar munching the fresh grass. When he saw Carson with his saddle, it was a different story though as Scimitar left his feeding and walked over to Carson, just setting the saddle on the fence.
'that's my boy, come on now. We may no' be on display for Her Majesty but this is the closest we've got.' he added, light hands soothing Scimitar as he worked, brushing his fine coat until Scimitar shone.

Radek was amazed to see the strong bond between horse and rider as Carson worked, refusing to be distracted from his task. After a little while, Scimitar butted Radek lightly and was rewarded with a gentle pat and a few whispered words of friendship.
'that's the way Scimitar, Radek's a friend. He willnae hurt ye.' Carson uttered, adjusting the girth before turning his attention to the bridle, polishing it one last time with a light cloth before deftly positioning everything and making sure the fit was perfect.

The tacking finished, Carson left Radek to keep Scimitar out of trouble while he got dressed, only emerging to get assistance to get into his cuirasse and cartridge box. Radek had again donned his gloves and took to the metal with the second soft cloth, wiping away the last few imperfections.

With Carson ready, Scimitar was brought out of the paddock and Carson swung into the saddle before Radek helped him get his boots on. Carson sat tall in the saddle, every inch the cavalryman he had been once and would be for a long time to come. Radek took a few steps back in order to fully appreciate the full picture of man and horse as Carson settled the reins in his hand and drew his sword.
'beautiful, there are no other words to describe this sight before me. The others will be assembled soon and I must get cleaned up.' he smiled warmly up at Carson before slipping into the tack room to change and get ready for their display.

While waiting, Carson took Scimitar through a few short walks and trots, getting used to being back in the saddle after years spent away. Scimitar seemed to be unsure about the surface but with some gentle encouragement from Carson, he was soon relaxed again, trotting with relaxed ease on the metal, his hoof beats thundering loud and clear in the still air. They were just completing their fifth pass when Radek emerged, looking every inch a soldier.
'what is tha' ye're wearing Radek?' Carson asked, easing Scimitar to a stop beside Radek.
'is my old army uniform. Jana sent it for me, is time I admitted I am ex-military just like you Carson.' Radek replied, shouldering his old rifle. Everything shone with care, each fold precise and crisp.
'sounds like a plan ta me. Alright now Scimitar, nice and steady. Lead the way Radek, we'll follow ye.' Carson agreed, making the final adjustments to his seat as Radek moved to stand in front of them, paused for a moment and marched off, heading towards the gathering waiting for them near the Gateroom. Carson gave Radek a short head start before signalling Scimitar. With another toss of the head, Scimitar moved off, keeping his spacing behind Radek as they walked together.

Everyone near the Gateroom wondered what the deal was as they waited for Carson and Radek to appear. A few hushed conversations were going on and everyone was asking the same questions.
'what has this all got to do with those two secretive shipments received?' Keller asked, straining to see around the corner.
'how much longer is this going to take? I've got important work to do.' McKay groused, one foot tapping impatiently.
'be patient Rodney, I'm sure this is going to be very interesting. Anything that has something to do with Radek and Carson is bound to be.' Weir replied, shaking her head slowly.

The clatter of hooves brought all the conversations to an end as Radek appeared, rifle resting on his shoulder. He took a place in front of the group just as Carson rode into place, resplendent in his shining uniform, sword held proudly in his right hand. He guided Scimitar around until he was standing beside Radek, tossing his head again.
'my friends, we have called you here today to show you something that you did not know. Although we are men of science now, in the past we were not so innocent in our endeavours. I was once a Lieutenant in the Czechoslovakian army…' Radek called, standing proudly beside Carson, all traces of the mind-mannered scientist gone from his face.
'and I was a member of The Queen's Cavalry, with my fine Cavalry Black, Scimitar. Together, we served Her Majesty for many years, never far from the royal carriage when ever it was out and about. It was decided, because of my medical training, that I should be close to Her Majesty in case of problems. Thankfully, I never had to contend with that side of my duties.' Carson added, smiling proudly as he looked out over his friends.
'this is what was contained in those secretive deliveries you've been getting?' Keller asked with a grin, admiring the way Carson looked in all his kit.
'aye, the first one I got was my uniform, carefully crafted to suite my expanded frame. The second delivery was the greatest surprise for that was when Scimitar arrived, a little shaky after three months in stasis but otherwise unharmed. In my younger days, Scimitar was my life and I spent every available minute caring for him and his kit. Together, we won the Princess Cup three times, meeting Her Majesty each time.' he replied, dismounting quickly and grasping Scimitar's reins just under his head.
'a fine horse Carson but are you sure it is a good idea to keep Scimitar on the city?' Weir questioned, smiling softly.
'of course Dr. Weir. I would feel as if I were neglecting him if he were sent ta the mainland. Here, I can check on him constantly and spend time caring for him as he deserves. Technically, we're both retired but tha' does no' mean we won't make a show for special occasions.' Carson explained, leading Scimitar over to the group.
