View Full Version : Dress Code

Stargate Atlantis has a uniformed dress code. They vary in colors but they all look the same whether they are jackets or shirts, and I think black pants are standard. Like I've said, they look like Star Trek rejects. They certainly show many of the same colors.

So question: Should Atlantis continue to have a uniform dress code or should they get rid of it? After all, it's not a military operation. Now some non-military jobs have uniform dress codes - police, emt's, firefighters, hospital staff, etc...

Also, if Atlantis were to require a uniform dress code, perhaps to identify its members when they go exploring, then Teyla and Ronan should be required to dress appropriately too if they are allowed on the mission. However, they clearly are not required to which makes you wonder why everyone dresses in a uniform kind of way if it is not a requirement.

So, should Atlantis continue with this uniform dress code, should they change the look of it, or should they get rid of it?

My personal opinion - they should get rid of it. Military officers should be in uniform because their job calls for it, but the rest should be wearing whatever they want. Let Rodney wear jeans and a t-shirt, let Weir dress either professionally - dress style clothes like government officials in her position would wear here on earth or casual. Sheppard needs to be wearing the kind of uniforms that SGC teams wear. Or he can keep the blue and black thing but make that the standard uniform then for all military personnel. And let Carson wear normal doctor clothes.

I voted uniforms only for military but in a way that is kind of everyone apart from those that do not originate on earth...

I don't want to see Teyla and Ronan having to wear something that they aren't comfortable fighting in, I mean they are used to what they have now.

Rodney did say once when he was in the SG-1 episode that he was "on the airforce payroll" so does that make him part of the military even though he is only in research? Cos in that case he would be wearing the uniform too I suppose.

I had always assumed this was a military mission with civilians working with them. I never thought it was a civilian outing.

Would the civilians in such a situation be required to wear uniforms? If they are, wouldn't they have to dress more like the military and not some Star Trek fashion statement?

I'm not sure. I'm thinking it would depend on what kind of situation it is. Our civilians wore civilian clothing.

However, to my knowledge, our planet has never had an expediton such as this. So, I'd be at a loss as to what a civilian would wear on this type of mission.

I suppose we could contact NASA and find out. LOL!

As far as the Star Trek fashionistas? The only thing I have to say is.....this is "SciFi".

If you ever watch the shuttle missions, they are all wearing similar stuff, but definetly not the same.

I took uniforms just for the military.
