I don't know how many of you pay attention to the "Stargate Information Archive" Top list, the one for which a banner is on the forum home page. I vote for several sites that I visit frequently, and after having the "Arcady experience", I watch it with some amusement.
On January 1st, all of the stats were zeroed out, to back about a week. Including all of the averages. Okay, so we're starting over. At first I thought it might be a function of the forum program, new year and all.
Then, on the 2nd, I went in to vote. Wanted to check the stats for the forum. Zeroes across the board. Hmm. Figured I was having a 'senior moment', and only thought I had voted. So I voted again.
For the past three-four days there has been a 'voting frenzy' over there among the most active of the sites. No big deal...although I found it interesting that one particular site seemed to be having trouble rising in the ranks. In the past two days, it actually lost a couple of places. So tonight I go in to vote, and the stats are all zeroed out, again. Curious, and wondering if what was going on was what I thought was going on, I clicked refresh. Yep, the average dropped again...and then again.
Basically, the list owner seems to be throwing a little temper tantrum because his site isn't in the top 5 any longer. When I first discovered this list, the Stargate Information Archive site was #1, and stayed that way, until mine and about four other sites started up. We managed to move up to the top. (You know what they say about cream rising!)
Now, personally, I think that if you have a top list site, it's just bad form to put your own site on the list. But that's just me. Nor do I really give a hoot and a holler about what's going on over there. I do feel sorry for the other site owners, who have faithful members voting daily. To watch those accumulated stats zeroed out at the whim of a sore loser is just annoying.
I don't know how many 'hits' or visitors Stargate Command gets from that list...if any. (TCO wasn't getting any hits from there...which is the main reason I dropped it.) But I figure that word of mouth and Google searches probably make up the majority of hits, and how people find us. If you ask me, as long as these games are going to be played there, it's a waste of my time to go in and vote, and then have to check to make certain that the vote hasn't been deleted.
As of right now, Stargate Command is #73. I think this list is a waste of our time and energy. I suggest we let Arcady play his little games. And let him play alone.
