View Full Version : The Strange Happenings on the Archive Top List...

I don't know how many of you pay attention to the "Stargate Information Archive" Top list, the one for which a banner is on the forum home page. I vote for several sites that I visit frequently, and after having the "Arcady experience", I watch it with some amusement.

On January 1st, all of the stats were zeroed out, to back about a week. Including all of the averages. Okay, so we're starting over. At first I thought it might be a function of the forum program, new year and all.

Then, on the 2nd, I went in to vote. Wanted to check the stats for the forum. Zeroes across the board. Hmm. Figured I was having a 'senior moment', and only thought I had voted. So I voted again.

For the past three-four days there has been a 'voting frenzy' over there among the most active of the sites. No big deal...although I found it interesting that one particular site seemed to be having trouble rising in the ranks. In the past two days, it actually lost a couple of places. So tonight I go in to vote, and the stats are all zeroed out, again. Curious, and wondering if what was going on was what I thought was going on, I clicked refresh. Yep, the average dropped again...and then again.

Basically, the list owner seems to be throwing a little temper tantrum because his site isn't in the top 5 any longer. When I first discovered this list, the Stargate Information Archive site was #1, and stayed that way, until mine and about four other sites started up. We managed to move up to the top. (You know what they say about cream rising!)

Now, personally, I think that if you have a top list site, it's just bad form to put your own site on the list. But that's just me. Nor do I really give a hoot and a holler about what's going on over there. I do feel sorry for the other site owners, who have faithful members voting daily. To watch those accumulated stats zeroed out at the whim of a sore loser is just annoying.

I don't know how many 'hits' or visitors Stargate Command gets from that list...if any. (TCO wasn't getting any hits from there...which is the main reason I dropped it.) But I figure that word of mouth and Google searches probably make up the majority of hits, and how people find us. If you ask me, as long as these games are going to be played there, it's a waste of my time to go in and vote, and then have to check to make certain that the vote hasn't been deleted.

As of right now, Stargate Command is #73. I think this list is a waste of our time and energy. I suggest we let Arcady play his little games. And let him play alone.

I agree. I haven't been there in quite some time because of pop up issues (even with my pop up blocker and virus checker).

But, no point in playing games. However, if you know of some other places, we can look into perhaps listing at another site.

And your right, I didn't ever understand why their own site was listed.

Anyone notice Stargate Andromeda's banner?

OH yeah, we are number 7 now....LOL!

The one I would recommend for Stargate Command is the List of International Stargate Topsites. I've had TCO listed there for quite some time, and I do get a bit of traffic from there.

It's a part of Chevron 26, which isn't listed, btw. It's a rather small list, but there isn't the bruhaha like there has been at the Archive list.

One thing I'd be certain to do...email Arcady and have him remove the site from the list, rather than just let it fall to the bottom.

Anyone notice Stargate Andromeda's banner?

That's the 'default' banner that shows up if a site is listed, but doesn't have a banner URL entered in the account set up.

PS...did you notice who's at #1...finally? Check out all of the stats...I'm betting he pulled the same sort of stunt he did before. He tried to change his stats to record more votes than he'd actually received...his daily stats said one thing, but didn't match the weekly stats. He got called on it, and that's when his site disappeared from the list for awhile. I'm betting he left his stats for the week/month/year intact, and gutted everyone else's. What a little weasel, eh?

ah, I was wondering.

He is an arse. The Feeb's shouldn't have dropped their case against him. It might've scared him straight. If you read this Adam, you fail sunshine!

If you guys want, I could start one up. I'll look into what's needed and sort something out for testing. In the meantime, could a mod or admin here remove the Archive's link? It would save alot of faffing about.

Edit: Word to the wise guys. Don't visit the International SG Topsite just yet. Some of the ads running there contain malware. I'll have a word with Isto about it and let you know when it's good to go.

Thanks for that note Brym. Last thing anyone of us need is a screwed up computer.

Last time I checked, on it, Isto had taken care of the problems...I've never had anything come up while I've been there, and I've been listed there for almost three years now. (On the International list). He did have a problem with one of the sites listed having malware on it I believe, but that issue was dealt with quickly.

I agree, just drop the Archive banner...why deal with an ego if the list isn't going to be a true representation...and if there are people surfing in to check out the sites, the constant shuffling will make it impossible for any one site to 'stand out'.

Brym...I could have nailed him to the wall a few months back...he posted personal info about me and one of my friends in place of the list. I emailed him and told him he could take it down immediately, or he could talk to my attorney. It came down within about 30 minutes of me sending the email. I didn't realize until too long after the fact that I STILL could have pursued a harassment complaint against him. Next time he does something like that, the ONLY person I'll be speaking with is my attorney!

As far as I'm concerned, if you want to start a list, that would be awesome, we need a good list for Stargate sites...the only other list that I know about (that actually is actually 'visible') is Isto's list.

(I know I shouldn't say this...but I can't help but wonder if other site owners even know what's going on, or if they're just confused about the continually zeroing out stats? Part of me would love to clue them in!)

Oh yeah, they've done it now. We were 5 votes in this morning, now 70 something and our average is 183?????????

LOL!

That's just crazy :|

Robin, you may just get your wish. I bought the perfect domain name last night. Not saying what it is yet, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out. At the moment, I'm skinning the topsite with a free skin I found, then I'll customise it some more. When I'm happy everything is working well, I'll buy the webspace and transfer everything over. Watch this space ;)

NF...what Arcady did was to change the 'daily vote' status to the 'weekly average' status. My guess is he's trying to hide what he's been up to.

Brym...Awesome news my friend! Would I be able to list TCO there as well?

Just peeked into the Archive list...seems Arcady zeroed out the stats back to the 31st...AGAIN. Does anyone else find this behavior downright disgusting?

More and more I have the urge to contact the admin on every site listed and tell them that Arcady is throwing a temper tantrum...AGAIN, and that their site is just wasting time and effort voting there!
