Just wanted everyone to know that the Stargate Fan Awards are open (finally!) for this year. I know they've been beset by some problems, but they're ready for nominations.
These awards have categories for fan fiction, artwork, music videos and best website categories.
Please read and follow all rules carefully.

I didn't even pay attention to that. I'll have to look more closely when I don't have a headache, trying to read on that site now is actually painful! I have no idea who chose the colors, but whoever it was should be slapped silly!

You're welcome, NF!
Brym...I have 19" flat panel...at 1680x1050. I'll muddle through somehow, so that I can nominate my favorite stories/authors...have to figure out the artwork section, I've never nominated anything in that part, and I have a LOT of choices from here in the forum! *grin*

I don't see why not! I think you and Orca both should enter!
(If you can get into it...could you grab a contact email for me? I signed in so I could check out the nomination form, and haven't been able to get in since!!! All I get is the page that was up for ages...can't reach the 'new' page.)

pm'ing to you now, robin. i contacted the admin to report some links. she replied letting me know that the site isn't completely ready yet, but that she'd noticed members still logging in trying to do member things.

Well, that's sort of par for the course. Nice enough people, but not the best organized, IMHO. Guess I'll just wait a week or so and see if it's ready then.

The SFA's are up and running, and taking nominations until Dec. 31st.
Please take a few minutes to check out the site, and to nominate your favorites in fan fiction, art, and music videos.

That's odd...maybe they found a glitch...I was able to actually make some nominations over the weekend...
(btw, brym and orca, if you could PM me the URL's to where your work is located, I will spend the next two weeks agonizing over which banners and manips to nominate...*grin*)

Hey, all...The Stargate Fan Awards has extended the nomination process until January 10th. So there's still time to nominate your favorite story/artwork/website for this great award!
Let's not forget to nominated Stargate Command for a website award (it will run in the forum subcategory, I'm assuming.)

would you say it'd be under "crossover multimedia > websites," and are we permitted to give out jack's email address?
Robin K

That's where I'd put it, and check with AC about using her email address, I'm not sure how often Jack checks his, in case there are any questions.

Thanks Robin, I was gonna get over there and do some nominating..... then my sister found out she had less then a week before leaving for Navy bootcamp.... so, I didn't get a chance, maybe next year. I think I may have nominated one of mine... but I don't know, I feel kind of selfish if that is the only one I got to nominate...

Sometimes things happen. My best friend has been so busy at work that she just didn't have time to get in and make any nominations.
Personally, I feel that artists especially have the right to nominate something they've created. Will admit that I nominated my website, but that's just because Renee and Lisa are there with me. It's more 'our' website than 'my' website. (Mine should be listed under 'personal websites', while Stargate Command would be listed under a different category. That is, unless the SFA team decides that their precious 'numbers' rule can't be bent or reworked to allow a lower number of entries to compete. We'll just have to see how it works out this year as to whether or not I'll even bother trying to compete in it next year!)

I found the site quite confusing. I thought we were supposed to enter links to our works, and then staff would produce a grand list for everyone to vote from. I couldn't see any such list

That is how it works, brym. The nominations have closed, and now the SFA team will compile the list of nominees. As soon as that list is ready and posted, the voting opens. I'll let everyone know when that happens, I promise.
(Although, as I received an email from the SFA team regarding the fact that they're looking for volunteers to help with this process, I'm not going to hold my breath on that list being up any time soon. I figure it will probably be April or May before the list is ready...this group is notorious for unusually long delays. The 2007 award round took one year, three months to complete. And during that time there were TWO (2) updates.)
So if anyone is interested in helping with sorting through the nominations, head on over and request the application! Note, however, that SFA staff is ineligible to vote.
I should add, in all fairness, that even though there are only half of the nominations this time around, not quite 2000, all of those nominations have to be put on a 'master list', the duplicates removed, and then all entries have to be checked to make certain they don't violate any of the rules. THEN...the team has to arrange them according to genre, and then into subcategories.
(I have my own issues with the whole subcategory thing...seems that this group doesn't understand or care that there are 'minor' categories that will NEVER have the requisite 5 entries per subcategory, and as such, those subcategories will continue to be suspended, and all such entries grouped together in one category. It's not fair...and this is part of the reason for the drop in the number of nominations this year. (The mind-numbingly long time to complete the awards process notwithstanding!) For the 2007 awards I had 17 nominations. According to the rules, I had to pare that down to 10. Then, I was given just a few days to pick ONE story to compete, as they had done away with all of the Daniel/Other subcategories, and an author can only have one entry per subcategory. I nearly pulled out...there were several who did. IF the same thing happens this year, I'm not even going to bother competing again...it doesn't do any good, it's not fair to lump all the stories into one 'subcategory' and call it good. But then, that's just my opinion.)

Don't the nominations go onto a database from the beginning? It's not difficult to query a database. The results are near-instant.

I would assume so...it should be easy enough to filter out the duplicates. But like I said, the list won't be put out until they've checked everything, made certain all URL's work properly, and then begin their debates on what goes where, and how many subcategories will actually make it to the voting round.
This group isn't the most organized...I mean, sending out emails soliciting help two days after nominations close? Not the most on the ball group.

That's good then. I thought I'd missed voting and we were waiting to hear the results. Cheers for clearing it up, Robin.

You bet! No chance of missing the voting phase, I promise to get word out as soon as it opens.
(I am contemplating contacting the bookies in Las Vegas however, and starting a betting pool on when that will actually happen. I could use the extra cash...LOL!
As annoying and frustrating and downright aggravating as the SFA's can be, I do appreciate the work the group does, and the SFA's are the most prominent award program for the Stargate fandom.)
