Sorry of this has been posted before.

I just have to ask, whats with the Atlantis stargate? I persomnally liked the SG-1 stargates fine. Gave a sense of ancient yet advanced. The new stargates all over the pegasus galaxy seem a bit too advanced.

But this is just me. Any idea why they decided to change them?

I think the writers of Atantis wanted this show to be a bit more scifiish for lack of a better word. I also think it was cheaper to have a stargate with no moving parts, as the new one just has flashing lights.

This is explained in the series as the pegasis gates being created after the gates in our galaxy. Hence they were the second generation of gate technology. Or as they say in the extras, the Pegasis gates are digital, vs the Analog gates of our galaxy.

Hmmm....so I guess they had no problems linking an analog gate to a digital gate.
