Heyy, look, they have an ancient ship now!

Maybe my second season end theory is leaning toward right, theyll fight!

So then, I want opinions on this thing.

I saw the Hyperdrive was diffrent. Was that because they were coming out of hot molten magma, and an atmosphere, or because ancients are just awsome like that?

And what are its weapons?

Im thinking things simmalar to the Wraith weapons. So just a bunch of pulse cannons.

Whos gonna command it? Shepard? nah. Wear? maybe... Some new earth commander? Better be someone awsome.

And will it play a role in attacking the orai in SG-1? Probably not. But theres a chance/ :p

Well, assuming they use that storyline, I would think it would have to be Shep commanding it since he has the ancient gene and the most experience flying the puddle jumpers.

I'm not sure Weir has the ancient gene and therefore couldn't do it. And Carson does, but as we've seen in a few past episodes, he's not very good at it.

They would need more than a captain for the Orion to really be of use. And it's not like there's just a bunch of people standing around Atlantis, or the Daedalus, with nothing to do. But I think it's pretty cool that they now have an Ancient ship, and I can't wait until they do begin to make use of it. Also, lots of people can use Ancient technology, they just need to get the shot, the gene inoculation, and they can use Ancient technology just as well as anyone who was born with the Ancient gene. Also, people without the gene have been able to operate Atlantis just fine.

We've been talking about the possibility that they're setting up Amanda Tapping for a permanent crossover to Atlantis. Maybe Orion is why. Maybe her crossover would be to Orion and not to Atlantis in which case she wouldn't be competing with Rodney or Zalenka in Atlantis. She'd be heading up all research and things scientific on Orion maybe even to take over the ship when it's up and running like Caldwell is in charge of Dedalus.

I think that would add an incredibly interesting element. On the one hand we've got Atlantis with our main cast. Then we've got two major ships - the Dedalus from Earth under Col. Caldwell's command and the Orion, and Ancient ship with far greater technology, under. Col. Carter's command. I think that would be an awesome idea.

Yes, but I think the ships and weapons are a little different. From what I can tell you have to either have had the gene therapy or the gene itself. Remember in SGI Jack was the only who had been able to use that puddle jumper. And only people with the gene had been able to use the "chair".

Besides do you think the people from planet are going to let them have the ship?

I thought they did. That was the impression I got at the end of the episode. They gave Atlantis the ship in exchange Atlantis is going to help them out in all sorts of other ways - I imagine with technology, medicine, etc...

At the risk of sounding uneducated, what is Caligula?

CALIGULA • Emperor

Name at birth: Gaius Caesar Germanicus

Caligula was emperor of Rome from 37-41 A.D., and in four short years developed a reputation for strange behavior which has endured for 20 centuries. Son of the Roman general Germanicus, Caligula was raised among Roman troops and got the nickname Caligula ("Little Boots" ) from his miniature military garb. After the death of his great uncle Tiberius, Caligula became emperor with the army's support. His years as emperor were marked by erratic behavior and debauchery: Caligula ordered the deaths of enemies and friends alike, threw absurdly lavish parties, practiced incest with his sisters, and generally abused power while mishandling or ignoring affairs of state. He was assassinated in the year 41 by soldiers from his own Praetorian Guard. Caligula was succeeded by his uncle Claudius.

Okay, I did miss the very end of the episode as my husband thought it was more important to watch a documentary on Caligula. :scrch

That's actually a pretty cool idea- Carter on the Orion. It's also pretty much the only way I would feel good about her crossing over permanently to Atlantis. She definitely wouldn't be in command of the ship, at least not for a while. I mean, she's got tons of experience in the field and all, but she doesn't actually have a lot of command experience. Besides a few times throughout the series where she's had to make tough choices, she only has the 1 year (season 8) of actual command under her belt. However, I wouldn't want to see that happen too soon. I like Carter on SG-1. And the Orion is going to be looking for a crew any day now. Still, I suppose she could be transferred onto the Orion later. I agree, that would be pretty awesome.

I find it ironic that caligula is mention in the same forum as sheppard. As sheppard is a tame version of caligula.

You're joking, right?

I do think that's funny. While not Caligula in the strictest sense, given the chance, he would be well on his way. Shep strikes me as a very "given the chance" kind of guy.

Now I don't think that's very fair. Just because he's not all aloof and "above the influence" in dealing with all the hot alien babes he meets doesn't mean you have to compare him to Caligula. What's so bad about a young man being attracted to attractive young women, that Shep would be compared to a despotic, incestuous sicko like that?

That's why I said "not in the strictest sense.....but given the chance."

Let that be Sam or Elizabeth, I could only think of the names they would be called.

While I like the idea of sam crossing over and controling the Orion, im putting my money on no.

Maybe at the end of SG-1. Plus who would replace her if SG-1 was still going? Jonas? :p That I would like as well.

But yeah. I look foward to seeing this baby in action.

Why do you think they've only found the one ship so far and why not any on Atlantis?

Just curious.

I think it makes sense that the Ancients didn't leave lots of stuff just lying around. When they left the Pegasus Galaxy, the Wraith pretty much dominated the whole entire thing. I don't think the Ancients would've wanted their technology being used by the Wraith. Also, they were in a war, and they were losing. It makes sense that they would've lost much of their fleet.

I wonder if they've searched their new planet as well as they think.

When I think of the legend about Atlantis, I think about merpeople and other legends. Whose to say there wasn't intelligent life on this planet before they arrived? What if there are still intelligent people living on Atlantis, maybe harboruing more Ancient technology besides that which was found in Atlantis?

It looks like the planet is just a bunch of water. Save the mainland.

Plus the city was Atlantis, meaning all the stuff came from there. No, I doubt that there is anything else, as cool as it would be.

I was dissapointed at the puddle jumpers. Cool as they are, I was looking for somthing more, a fighter thats cooler looking.

Orion might see some action at season end it looks

Been gone for a couple of days, so I have to thank Newfan for sticking up for me here. I was half joking about the Caligula comment. It was ment to be funny, not to say that Shep is like caligula, but rather to say that he is more like caligula than any other of the chacters.

Anyway, just my attempt at some humor.
