It's the *#&$ chain the dog has around it's neck, when the dog, or trainer, pulls it tightens around it's neck effectively choking the dog.....it's a real cruel 'tool' used by wannabe-dog trainer who can't control their dogs.

orca, do you have any other photos of ms. duff? it's just a little scary to me that she's always smiling. i think it's a great idea using non-sg celeb pics for fan fic, by the way. but alot of the pics floating about are usually publicity shots.

i was just thinking that screenshots from their dvd's could produce some great renders. they're caught in the moment, and you can take your pick of the emotion. something like a sad (upset) looking character for a tear-jerker, or that puppy-dog look of love in a characters eyes for a romance fic.

anyway, great idea using other celebs. keep it up :cool:

So, I'll explain this in as simple terms as I can. I don't want to offend anyone. I'm all for people of the same age going out and getting married yadda, yadda... but, I also see that love comes in the least expected places... like in someone younger/older. There is a boundary when it comes to an older person, male or female, dating a younger one. On that note, the cheractor of Kari is supposed to represent the girls who make dicissions in thier life based on the fact that they have no other choice. If you've read my fics, you'll notice that before Kari joined the Stargate program, she was a girl without parents who led a group of other kids, Mark, James and Ella, in thier run for safety for Ella. These kids were her family, brothers and sisters. Kari had no other freinds because she was always' protecting Ella, Mark and James, leaving her no time to get out on her own and have any real relationships. When she met Evan, both of them were very sick and they became close during the time that they were sick. She joined the Stargate Program to protect Ella, Mark and James from having to go to yet another abusive foster home. After that, Kari was able to relax a little, feeling like she could trust the people on Atlantis. She and Evan became involved because she saw no one else that she felt would take the chance. Every girl that I know wants to fall in love and thats that. Most girls are blinded by a beautiful smile from a guy or a sweet voice *which I must say Evan lacks in niether of them....* In a way, I find myself relating with Kari on many levels. She's the loner, the one who's always' looked up to but has no one to look up to. If I was in her situation, I would do the same thing. I have no desire to live my life alone. But, at this point, I'm wondering if I will end up alone anyway. Maybe I'm just writting about a girl close to my age finding true happiness because I feel like I can only dream of having true happiness.

So, in Kari's defense... I'm just looking for something to dream I had. Mostly because I'm depressed and I have to face it.

She's the loner, the one who's always' looked up to but has no one to look up to. If I was in her situation, I would do the same thing. I have no desire to live my life alone. But, at this point, I'm wondering if I will end up alone anyway. So, in Kari's defense... I'm just looking for something to dream I had. Mostly because I'm depressed and I have to face it.


I understand what you're saying...Kari is 'older' than her years. You relate to her because she's your age. Be that as it may, I can't see a man in Evan's position (or age) falling in love with Kari. Caring for her, being her friend, absolutely, no doubt about it. But it I doubt seriously that it would go any farther than that. Regulations alone would keep him from becoming involved with someone so young...as well as the laws of his own society (they might be on Atlantis, but the laws of the "homeworld" still apply, especially for the military personnel.) Being in a 'romantic' relationship with someone that young (I'm talking younger than 21 here) would result in disciplinary action. (This comes from 16 years as a Navy wife, and 31 years living in a Navy community. Military is military, trust me.)

I also agree that the heart loves who the heart loves. But there are circumstances that often intervene. Yes, most young women want to fall in love. Most even have crushes on older men. Very, very few ever follow through with those crushes, and choose to enter relationships with men closer to their own age...again, the reasons are societal acceptance.

Now, add to all of that the fact that I've had a bit of a bad experience with some really bad fan fic that not only touches on, but hits on and zooms right on past accepted societal 'norms'. So, I guess I'm a bit more 'sensitive' to anything that borders on 'unacceptable'. Especially in fan fic of the Stargate variety. The characters of Stargate SG-1 and of Stargate Atlantis are of the highest moral fiber. Doing something even remotely 'unacceptable' happens only when they aren't in full possession of their faculties, and they suffer tremendously for whatever happens afterwards.

I'm sorry to hear that you're depressed...and while writing and fan fiction can be a lot of fun, and a bit theraputic, seeking solace in it continually can only add to the depression, because eventually you have to come back to the real world. At the risk of sounding like Dear Abby, is there an adult in your life that you can confide in? What about a counselor at school? If your depression is severe, there might even be physiological reasons for it, and a good therapist would suggest a full physical examination to determine if that's the case. Living with depression isn't fun, nor is it easy...on the person who is depressed, or those in their lives.

(Just want to add here that being a teenager can be depressing at times...this, too shall pass. Honest.)

I've had crushes on men older then me before, and I have to agree with you that in real life, a girl usually settles on someone her own age. But, not all the time!

I really don't think that he has done something 'unexceptable' but... I can see where some people would think so.

As for him being to old for Hillary Duff... He is seventeen years older then her yes... but she's also 21... so... my cheractor may be only seventeen in the fics you've read, but I also have a feeling that none of you but Dev have actually read them. *I know Dev has because he's given me some hints on them....* Something you'll all figure out about me is that I will dream about something *as I did in this case* and I will write it out to figure out why I dreamed it, sometimes I will come up with something that I think is really good and I will post it on a site like this.

As for me being depressed and having an adult to talk to. Yes, I do have someone, I am very close to my mom and I have a cop friend that is like a brother. I resent the fact that you have insinuated that I may have some physical reason for being depressed. I've had a hard year and finding out that my best friends husband is dying doesn't help!


I know, I may have broke a few rules in this little rant... but I have to say, I don't like the fact that everyone seems to think that I am some kind of freak.

So. After spending two hours with an elderly woman who told me her life story. I feel like my life is so small. So... not important in the grand sceme of things.

And I also feel that I owe all of you an apology. I over-reacted to everything that has been said. And, everything that Robin told me the private message really got me to thinking. She has very many points that are very good.

I don't know the "law" surrounding emancipation, however, my best guess would be that if she is legally emancipated from her guardian(s) then, there would be no one to press charges other than herself if something illegal were to happen.

Re the emancipation comment...this is just for the state of WA (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=13.64.060). Basically, if something is illegal, emancipation doesn't change that fact. (Bold emphasis mine)

(2) An emancipated minor shall not be considered an adult for: (a) The purposes of the adult criminal laws of the state unless the decline of jurisdiction procedures contained in RCW 13.40.110 (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=13.40.110) are used or the minor is tried in criminal court pursuant to *RCW 13.04.030 (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=13.04.030)(1)(e)(iv); (b) the criminal laws of the state when the emancipated minor is a victim and the age of the victim is an element of the offense; or (c) those specific constitutional and statutory age requirements regarding voting, use of alcoholic beverages, possession of firearms, and other health and safety regulations relevant to the minor because of the minor's age.

I checked with my big brother *not really my big brother, but he's like a big brother to me* he told me that the legal age of consent in New Mexico, which is where I live, is seventeen, which means that at the point of seventeen, a girl can marry whoever she wants no matter how old they are. Just a little fact from New Mexico. I thought that was along the lines of right, but I wanted to double check with someone who know's what their talking about. He's a cop and he's very educated on the matter as it is very important to him as a person.
