A terminally ill archaeologist attempts to cure his cancer by retrieving the ancient amulets of the storm god Ba'al. |
This movie was on Sci-Fi last night (atleast here in the US). I was amused (watched the first, oh 7 mins or so) that 1) it's named Ba'al.....something or other extended title.....2)..... about a terminally ill "archaeologist"....3) starring none other than the wife of Michael Shanks who played an archaologist in a show who's nemesis was Ba'al.
Hmmm......

Sounds like one of those cheaply made "Sci-Fi Originals." We get them here too. There was one on just the other night. I don't remember the name exactly, The Descent, maybe. Anyway, complete rip-off of The Core with actors whose careers had crashed and burned back in the 90's. It was almost a scene-for-scene theft! I found it through channel hopping. I think I must have been watching for 5 minutes, when I turned over as soon as they'd stepped out of their tunneling machine only to come across lava.

Oh, I'm sure it was one of their infamous Saturday night specials.

Which is why I am not going to watch it.

Much as this is true (going far of topic here), I wonder if any of you are familiar with a Doctor Who story from the Tom Baker era called Pyramids of Mars. The story was based around the idea that the Egyptian Gods were very powerful aliens with powers far beyond mankind (sound familiar); there is an Archaeologist who is possessed by the alien (Archaeologist's wife in Stargate), Sutekh is the most powerful of his kind but so evil that hundreds of his own kind band together to exile and entrap him (Anubis anyone?) - and I think in the 26 year history of the original series of Doctor Who, he is the only character we see with glowing eyes...
Though I have to admit that this particular thing does sound too close for me to watch unless very bored, does anyone else think that the above story could be made to make Stargate sound like a rip-off? I would be interested to know if the show's creators have ever seen that episode.

That's a very good question. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if the original creators of Stargate the Movie were 'inspired' by that Dr. Who episode.
As my friends and I have discussed a time or two, there really isn't anything new under the sun, we just have to recycle! *grin*

LOL
Actually Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, is our tag for recycling up here.
But that cute..I liked that Robin.

And a very good tag it is. We could all stand to do that more! If we all pitch in and do our share, just recycling alone, we can reduce the amount of garbage going into landfills. It's not like we have the extra room for more of them.
(This has been an unpaid, unapproved public announcement on the benefits of recycling.)

Robin likes recycling here, but just you suggest she watches Stargate Universe...
