We have confirmation.

Julie, at illuminaproductions just confirmed a direct email from my friend. An obit will be in tomorrow's Vancouver Sun.

Also, MSOL (http://www.michaelshanks-online.com/news/index.shtml), the official website for Michael Shanks, has confirmed the news.

Edited post.

Doggone it, I had hoped it wasn't true! *teary-eyed*

Still haven't found anything on the other news outlets...but I'm certain there will be something if I keep looking. You would think MGM would have something about it on their site...but haven't found it yet...of course, I haven't had time to check the whole site, just went to the Stargate SG-1/Atlantis section, and didn't see anything about it.

Doggone it...gonna go cry now...

Edited to add: I've checked the AP, UPI, and Rueters, still NOTHING...and I know that there would be at least a mention in the entertainment news! Something just isn't adding up for me...Maybe I'm just holding out, hoping for one of those fabled SG-1 miracles...but until I see something 'official', I'm going to hold my tears in check.

What a sad day it is!

Brym...just noticed that this is a blog...so anything is possible at this point. Remember the report about Angelina Jolie having her twins...supposedly reported by her assistant (or nanny, something like that), and it wasn't true? This person claims to be a personal friend of Ruby Davis. But don't you find it odd that NOWHERE in any news source, nor on any OFFICIAL website, is there news of this?

brymstone
06-30-2008, 09:26 PM
I know. But almost every SG site is running it. So it's either true, or everyone has posted the same rumour.

Anissa T
06-30-2008, 09:30 PM
Interesting. I have not seen it on any regular news outlets, nor his website, nor IMDB (who is usually all over stuff like this). But, saw it on Gateworld and Wiki.

If it's true, I'm very saddened.

Robin K
06-30-2008, 09:43 PM
Stargatewiki...or just the Wiki? I don't believe anything on that...Staragewiki, however, does an excellent job in providing accurate info.

Gateworld...well, you know my opinion of that.

I'm wondering if this isn't another of those incidents that have happened before...like I mentioned, the deal with Angelia Jolie that turned out to be false.

Again, I'll say that until there's OFFICIAL proof...we shouldn't get upset.

(I do agree...very, very sad if it is true!)

Robin K
06-30-2008, 09:48 PM
I know. But almost every SG site is running it. So it's either true, or everyone has posted the same rumour.

Just because an SG forum posts something doesn't make it true. These forums are NOT official, so anything posted on them needs to be scrutinized.

At this point, it's just a case of spreading what appears to be a rumor. And, sadly, I'll bet that Stargate Command is the ONLY forum where the members have the common sense to search for that authentication before jumping off the deep end over it.

MGM is not running this. Sci-fi is not running this. Not one news station is running this. Mr. Davis' own website is not running this story. SOMETHING is not right about the situation, wouldn't you say?

I can not find no info about Don. S. Davis untimely demise on Yahoo or Google News. I will look over on my friends RDA site and see if anything is there.
He is still on the List for Dragon Con in September. So, who knows.

:cb1

Addition... It is not in the Vancouver Sun. The local News paper in Vancouver BC.
Still searching....
Nor CBC.ca

Robin K
06-30-2008, 10:05 PM
I've looked all over, AC...nada. Let us know what you find out...if this is a rumor I'd like to go on record as saying that Stargate Command was on the ball enough to CHECK THE STORY before posting a memorial for him!

Angelica Constantine

Still searching...
Yahoo.ca nadda.

I am checking Canadian sources considering he lives in BC with his wife.

Still looking....

Nothing on Canoe.ca....
Still searching.....

Nothing at Toronto Sun.
Still looking...

Nothing at the Toronto Star either.

I think I covered the main ones up here in Canada.

I hope it helps.

Robin K
06-30-2008, 10:24 PM
That helps a lot, AC. Seems to me we have a rumor spreading like wildfire.

*sigh* The bad thing about rumors, stopping them is almost impossible!

Angelica Constantine
06-30-2008, 10:27 PM
I also just watched the news...CNN and local and when a celeb dies its all over our news and nothing.
So, I think unless they are trying to keep it under wraps which I highly doubt...he is just fine.
Even on RDA site...which you know they are friends....there is nothing.
So, I am hoping it is all just a rumor and He is just fine.

Robin K
06-30-2008, 10:33 PM
The lady who contacted me about this was told about it by someone from the Gateworld forum. I'm wondering if the TVGuide blog is the start...someone at Gateworld read that and believed it.

IF this was true, you'd think that by now at least the entertainment news would have picked it up.

Angelica Constantine
06-30-2008, 10:36 PM
Exactly. So, for Now, I am debunking this rumour until I have proof other wise.

Robin K

Me, too!!! Spreading something like this without definitive proof, especially in a forum, is irresponsible, in my opinion.

You are not the only one. I am not the type of person that normally cries when an actor dies, but for some reason this has really got to me.

You are not the only one. I am not the type of person that normally cries when an actor dies, but for some reason this has really got to me.

I can't remember any other actor I've cried about...but I'm certainly in tears now. Maybe it's because I've never been as interested...as affected...by a show as I was/am Stargate SG-1...and General Hammond was a very large part of that show for the first seven years.

Lemuria

This should give you an idea of the type of man he was. At Dragon Con two years ago, my friend and I were standing in the line to meet Don Davis, Torri Higginson, and Rachel Luttrell. You had to pay in the same place and get your photos there and then go to the table they were at.

Anyway, I went first to Don Davis' table and he shook my hand and was very nice to me. Of course I had my geek moment and had to act like he was really the general so everytime he asked a question I would say "yes sir." LOL. So I go on to Torri's table and talk to her and get her autograph and then I go to Rachel's table. I just finish at Rachel's table and I notice my friend is still at Don Davis' table. She finishes up there and comes to me say that I will not believe what happened.

My friend had a SG-1 comic book that she was getting everyone that was on SG-1 to sign (This was a more than one convention process). There was a charity that she was passionate about and she was getting the signatures (and paying for the autographs) on that comic book to auction on E-bay. She was going to give the money she raised to this particular charity. Somehow she and Mr. Davis got to talking about the comic book and she mentioned to him what she was doing. He told the person that was collecting the money to give my friend her money back. He said he would sign it for free and he was not going to charge for something going to charity. I thought that was really nice of him to do that.

I just thought I would give you all an inside of how nice he was.

Lem, that's an awesome story...and sounds so typical of him! I had a young friend/reader when I first started writing my fan fiction, she was able to volunteer at the convention in Dallas in 2005. She met Mr. Davis and said he is...was...the epitome of the Southern Gentleman.

I'm still getting teary eyed, thinking about losing him!

Very very sad. He will be missed. Allthough I have reservations.

I do find it a little strange that other than the vancouver local paper, no major news outlet reported this. I have searched them all and found none. IMDB still does not have it listed, allthough tv.com does. Infact the only news agency to report this that I trust 100% is the vancouver sun. He was bigger than that. Has anyone seen this reported on any other news agency than the sun?

Check the online versions of the Vancouver papers, yesterday the obituary was supposed to be in them. It is strange that no one has heard anything on any news source...the CLOSEST thing to 'official' I have found is on Micheal Shanks' webpage.

Found it...Vancouver Sun (http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/story.html?id=d43bbc0f-1971-40e0-a584-c05aba7ee939)

Edited to add...IMDb has now added the date of death to Don S. Davis' bio

Tonight I received this from creation entertainment.

REMEMBERING DON S. DAVIS of STARGATE FAME

Dear Creation Attendees:
http://www.creationent.com/pics/con_images/don_davis.jpg (http://www.creationlists.com/news/lt/t_go.php?i=393&e=MTUwOTIz&l=-http--www.creationent.com/calendar.htm)We are immensely sad to share the news of Don's passing. Don was a great person to work with and always cherished the time he spent at conventions meeting his many fans. He was always gracious and wanted to make sure that our attendees had a wonderful time. He really went the extra mile to hang out beyond his appearances so fans could meet him in the hallways and hotels. Many fans have great stories about bumping into Don or sharing a meal in a hotel restaurant, time certainly to be cherished.
We are dedicating the 2008 Stargate conventions to his memory.
- Creation Entertainment (http://www.creationlists.com/news/lt/t_go.php?i=393&e=MTUwOTIz&l=-http--www.creationent.com/)

Dear Fans and Friends of Don S. Davis,
So many of you have been touched by not only the work and art of Don S. Davis, but by the man himself, who always took the time to be with you at the appearances he loved, that it is with a tremendous sense of loss I must share with you that Don passed away from a massive heart attack on Sunday morning, June 29th.
On behalf of his family and wife, Ruby, we thank you for your prayers and condolences. A family memorial where Don's ashes will be scattered in the ocean will take place in a few weeks, and should you wish to, please make a donation to the American Heart Association in Don's memory.
Julie Caitlin Brown
(convention representative for Mr. Davis)

When I searched all the news up here in Canada the other day...at that time there was no report. I tried to be as though as possible.
I am glad Robin was able to keep searching while I was tied up.

Now, we know and now we can put the rest that the rumour...is now fact.

It's so strange knowing he is gone. I know that sounds silly. And I just watched him on an epi of NCIS.

It is sad and well will miss this man, but he is in a better place than here.
He leaves behind his Art of acting and his Art of life.
May he rest in peace, and may his wife and son take solace in knowing he touched many people all over the world. Leaving their lives better for knowing him.

Ok,

So I have all the dvd's, but to make the movies I need to do what dev was talking about. I need to convert them to avi's, I software to do this but it takes time. Basicaly 45 min per episode.

The ones I have done are,

The Children Of The Gods
The Enemy Within
Emancipation
--these I did last night--
A Brief Candle

So my question is what are some good General Hammond Episodes. Although I have plans to convert all my stargate episodes, I would like to get the Don S Davis video up. A couple I was thinking of, were the one where he flys though the gate with teal'c, the one where he goes to antartica to rescue cater and oneill, and the one where the replicators attack the base and he helps shoot them. The problem don't know the name of seasons of these episodes.

I need help.

I just started dling AVI's of S06, but dunt think that will quiet do (and downloading s01-06 is kinda overkill for my harddrive).

The episode where Hammond is in the Glider with Teal'c is season 3, "Into the Fire". Another good "Hammond" episode is season 4, "Chain Reaction" when the general is forced to retire. The Antarctic episode is season 1, "Solitudes". Another season 1 episode that has some good Hammond interaction is "Fire and Water". I believe the Replicator episode you're thinking of is Season 5 "Menace". Season 6 "Disclosure" is another good episode with Hammond. Season 4 "Window of Opportunity" has a couple of classic Hammond lines in it.

Um...is that enough?

Very late in this thread but newbie - forgive me.

Just thought to share some further memories. I am a bit of a convention regular (at least I was - buying a house will end that for a few decades...). I have started to go to more of the expensive cons where there are fewer guests but much more time with them so you can REALLY meet the guests. Of the larger conventions, where you only meet someone for half a minute, only one name stands out. Don S Davis.

Firstly, he stood and shook my hand and asked my name. Unheard of. Then he introduced his wife. I wasn't there long and in truth, I can't recall what exactly was said. But I felt that I had genuinely met who Don really was - not just a guarded persona of someone meeting a queue of thousands. Maybe it was just acting - I have a feeling not and even if it was, it was very much appreciated.

General - Godspeed.

Robin K

Thanks for sharing that, DrSpin. It seems to be a running constant with Don...his down-to-earth kindness and genuine interest in others.

That is what the actors said at his memorial at Dragon Con. They commented on how much he loved his fans and they allowed people to get to a microphone and talk about their experiences with Don. There were some that could not even finish what they were saying because it was so emotional.
