Level 22:

The bulk of Level 22 consists of the base's mess, which has two main dining areas. In addition, a private mess and meeting area are stationed here for officers.

The main kitchen is also located on this level, near the cargo elevator and adjacent to the primary mess.

A handful of private isolation quarters exist on Level 22, used as meeting areas or containment facilities for small groups as needed. Each of these accommodations includes folding bunks, a working area and a lounge.

Level 23:

This level contains the secondary and emergency engineering and power grids for the entire base. This equipment kicks in automatically in the event of a failure of the primary power plant. This power is sufficient to keep the SGC functional for at least six hours or up to twelve when used judiciously.

Level 24:

This level rarely sees use and is reserved for future expansion. Currently, the sub-level stores the UAV, MALP and FRED drone bays and maintenance garages. These drone units are maintained and upgraded here, and their batteries re-charged between missions.

Level 24 also contains the SGC mainframe computer which is self-contained and under constant lockdown. No personnel may enter the computer facility without authorization from the Base Commander or the Duty Officer.

I wouldn't mind checking out level 22. When I was active duty I use to be so intrigued by the different dining facilities, that I would try to hit one at every installation I went to, even if we were just visiting for a few hours....LOL.

It's amazing how dining facilities differ from base to base. I think most people believe that every base is just a carbon copy of every other base, and that's not the case at all!

(And...I've heard rumors that SOME of the mess halls actually serve...*gasp*...edible food! There have been claims that there are bases where the food is actually good, but I haven't spoken to anyone with first hand knowledge of this phenomenon...*grin*)

I often wonder if I like mess hall food because we were poor and had very "poor like" food. Nothing fancy....bean n rice, no spice. Rice cooked 15 different ways. Beans cooked atleast 5 different ways etc. We didn't often have too many different kinds of meat. In our family hot dogs were part of the meat group (I do not think so).

Not to mention my father utilizing his resources and us eating several cans of sea rats and MRE's growing up. So, now I very much enjoy dining facility foods. The MRE's of today aren't that bad if you know how to eat it correctly.

Heck, when I was in Germany, the installation I was at was the European training center. Being so, we held the PLDC courses. Every class that graduated, the USAREUR (not sure it's called that anymore) CSM came out, so the DFAC would serve steak and lobster. So, we got steak and lobster every 4-6 weeks.

Nice!

Oh, BTW, speaking of "how they look". At Ft. Irwin (coincidentally the National Training Center). Our DFAC had framed field jackets signed by Denzel Washington and Meg Ryan. They filmed Courage Under Fire out there.

Now that's a very good possibility...at least at the mess hall there was a bit of variety, eh? I can remember one time when my dad was out of work, we lived on cornmeal mush, 'fat back' and oatmeal. Took me years to eat oatmeal again, although I still do like fried cornmeal mush (using real bacon drippings though) and maple syrup. Don't want it often, but once in awhile is okay.

Hey, steak and lobster that you don't have to pay for, that's always a good deal! (You can have my lobster, just find me a few prawns...*grin*)

That's totally awesome...do you know if the actors ate in the mess hall while they were there?

I know Denzel Washington did. He would just plop down with a soldier once or twice. I'm not sure if Meg Ryan did. DW also on his last day up there (after filming wrapped) did a post level run with the company I was with. I am very fond of him. He is a huge supporter of the troops (not sure his actual stance on the war), especially the Fisher House program(s). He is also huge into Boys and Girls Club programs. What a wonderful thing to see him actively give back to the community.

He is a very giving man...and a great actor. I think most people support the troops, if not the war. There are a lot of actors who do support the troops, although you never hear them say much about the war itself. Seems to me that the ones doing all the screaming against the war, and who ignore the troops, are the same ones we don't see on television/in films much. Hmm...think there's a message in there somewhere?
