Reese was an android found on a deserted planet by SG-1 in sleep mode for the lack of a better word. Later they would find out her "toys" killed the people on the planet and those toys were the replicators.
I may have made a post about this topic, but if not I know AC and I have discussed this. I believe that the "father" Reese kept referring to was an ancient. I came to this conclusion when on Atlantis they came in contact with Replicators that were created by Atlanteans. Look at Reese's clothing. It is very similiar to the dress of the other Replicator and Atlanteans. Plus, she seemed to have similar abilities, be they limited, as the Atlantis Replicators did. They never said just how long she had been there in that sleep stasis, she was using minimum power and we all know thos ZPM's can last a long time not powered up.
So theorectically, the Atlanteans may have been indirectly responsible for the Replicator problem in the Milky Way.

An android who created the Replicators as toys...and apparently had no idea they were creatures bent on survival and destruction of anything perceived as a threat. Which sort of proves that she was flawed, doesn't it. Why she hadn't been destroyed upon discovery of this flaw is anyone's guess.
Reese was the catalyst that drove a temporary wedge between Jack and Daniel...as the two very different men approached a dangerous situation from two very different angles.
At least we know that Jack and Daniel were good enough friends to move past what had happened, although it did change the dynamics of that friendship...it was just as close, but in a different way...the two men understood one another just a bit better. (That's my interpretation, anyway!)
I personally found the Reese character a bit far-fetched, but hey, it made for a good episode! *grin*

I thought that the SGC handled it in an aweful way. They could have avoided it, in my opinion, if they knew how to talk to children better. But fear and impending doom kind of change your perspectives on things.

I think Daniel was able to communicate with Reese...even on her 'level'. The danger that she posed was too great, especially once she created so many replicators, to allow the situation to continue 'unchecked'.
In the real world, Reese never would have been brought into a military compound until it had been determined that she was no threat. She would have been studied 'on site' rather than transferring a possible threat 'home'.
Like I said, it was all a bit far-fetched, but it was still a good episode.

I originally thought Reese was someone/thing they would have been able to work with. She did seem to child like......even in her grown up form. I'm not sure I disliked the way they handled the situation or the way they treated Reese. I had wondered if they tried to talk her down more if everything would have worked out. But, on the other hand she did create the problem, supposedly just like she did on her homeworld. But, as with human children, sometimes you have to tell them 15 times (sometimesmore) before they get it....LOL
