Ah, Anubis. What can anyone say about him but...eww! It's interesting that of all the Goa'uld, only Anubis ever seemed to 'figure out' how to ascend...or at least partially ascend. To me, this indicates that Anubis was very much an intellectual, as well as a very careful planner.

He planned the ultimate revenge by trying to destroy the entire galaxy...which was thwarted by our ever stalwart SG-1. Maybe this was because at one point in time, he had been the oldest of the Egyptian gods...but at some point in time was demoted to merely ferrying the dead to the underworld. With a Goa'uld ego, that couldn't have made him too happy!

I believe that Anubis knew that Daniel would never be allowed to interfere, and that's why he was so arrogant when Daniel did confront him. Ironically, that act was probably what sent Daniel back to the realm of the mortals, and it was Daniel's interference that sent Anubis into eternal battle with Oma Desala. Bet he didn't see that one coming!

But didnt he actully ascend all the way? And then the Ancients tried to descend him but only got him to a lower plane but not to the mortal one?

No, Anubis was only partially ascended. He could never go 'higher' than the 'waiting area' (diner). That was why he wanted to destroy everything...he was striking out at the Ascended for keeping him in limbo.

Ah, I thought and read? that he got all the way up but the ancients tried to descend him but only got him back to the "Waiting Area" not to the human level or level plane for him :P

HA! :P saxed from stargate wiki
"Oma was unable to descend Anubis on her own, so the Others were forced to do so, but only in a partial manner to punish Oma. This was because they had become frustrated with Oma's breaking of the rule of non-interference. As a punishment to Oma Desala, the Others allowed Anubis to use any knowledge he could have gained as a regular Goa'uld."

It seems like he was all the way ascended and then only descended to a mid plane to punish oma

Well, isn't that kind of what Robin said (point being, he can't get past mid plane)?

that always seemed a bit of a pointless punishment to me. given the lifespan of goa'ulds, and the amount of spies he had, he would've gained just as much information had he not made a play for ascension. so the punishment actually became giving him some of the ethereal capabilities of ascended beings.

still, all that power and might, and he still got played by a boy - scara's ascension notwithstanding :D

So, there it is, in black and white, Anubis was only partially ascended. He was able to use the knowledge he gained, playing the part of a regular Goa'uld, he did NOT have access to the knowledge of the Ascended.

Now, I don't believe it can be any clearer, eh?

Remember, it's not a punishment for him, but for Oma.
