Lord Yu...full name: Yu Huang Shang Ti. One of the oldest Goa'uld System Lords. A bit senile as well. Apparently Yu is so old that the sarcophagus no longer works its magic on him.
In spite of his apparent attention problems, Lord Yu seemed to be the 'leader' of the Goa'uld, and he was instrumental in getting the Protected Planets Treaty between the Goa'uld Empire and the Asgard signed, sealed and delivered.
Lord Yu was the one who attacked Ba'al's outpost, where Jack was being held and tortured...after a 'little birdy' whispered in his ear about the existence of the outpost.
Played by Vince Crestejo, I think Yu is one of the few System Lords that SG-1 never actually went head-to-head against.
I would have liked to have seen a bit more raving in the episode "Homecoming", when Teal'c and Yu's lo'taur, Oshu, approach Ba'al about taking command of the Goa'uld fleet that is gathering to take on Anubis (with a lot of urging from the Tau'ri!)

He was one of my favourite Goa'ulds because he wasn't entirely evil. They really didn't touch on the fact that he probably had senseless bloody wars over patches of land which made him seem like no threat at all. He sort of seemed like a good-guy. I don't know if this lessened him as a character because his intended role was supposed to be the exact opposite or not. I liked how he got senile though. It was a nice take on the aging process of a Goa'uld.

It was interesting that we were able to 'glimpse' the aging process of a Goa'uld...knowing that they did eventually die. I'd have to go through transcripts, but I had the impression that Yu didn't change hosts as often as the other Goa'uld did...and that this was possibly a factor in his aging, and the fact that the sarcophagus no longer worked as well as it should have for him. It's also possible that the continued use of the sarcophagus was culprit in his senility.

Also he was the only one that while ruling on Earth did not refer to himself as a god. He went by Emporer.

He may not have called himself a 'god' but he was still considered a god...and of course, being Goa'uld, he had a great PR rep to write up a nice story for him...*big grin*

Sun of the Earth-god, Gun, Yu was known as the "Jade Emperor" of Chinese mythology originally the crown prince of the kingdom of Pure Felicity and Majestic Heavenly Lights and Ornaments. It was said the Jade Emperor fashioned the first humans from clay, but as he left them to harden in the sun, it rained, misshaping some of the figures, thus explaining the origin of sickness and physical abnormalities. Which might explain why he devoted his entire childhood in helping the needy (the poor and suffering, the deserted and single, the hungry and disabled). Furthermore, he showed respect and benevolence to both men and creature.
According to legend, he ascended to the throne following his father’s death, but abdicated his office after only a few days. He withdrew into the mountains where he studied the Tao in the hopes of helping men. When he attained perfection, he devoted the remainder of his life to the sick and the poor, instructing them in the Tao. After 3,200 world periods he became a golden immortal and after a further hundred million aeons, the Jade Emperor.
He is one of the best loved and best known of several legendary rulers, and is now considered to have been an actual person, the first King of the Xia dynasty (c 21st -16th centuries BC). He is best remembered for his battle against a great flood inundating the valley of the Huanghe (Yellow) River.

I liked Yu a lot. Not quite sure why, but I did. I had a feeling that even though he didn't talk much, he may have had a sense of humor. Seemed to me he may have also been so old, he was tired of the fighting and just wanted to have a couple of galaxies to call his own and do his own thing, but was forced to interact with others because of other things going on.
