Ok, what do you all think of Ba'al the System Lord?
Good points, bad points...
This is an open discussion.

ba'al is a clone for all we know the real one was killed long ago

That is not necessarily true...Ba'al has not reveiled that aspect yet. No one really knows for sure, save the writers of the show. XD

Well, they have been establishing that the dead Ba'als have all been clones. I believe they said that about the Ba'al who kidnapped Adria......So, just a good guess the real Ba'al is still alive.

I personally think Ba'al is probably the most 'fun' of all the System Lords...he's just so sneaky!! One of the most interesting things to note is that he's a "Babylonian" god, and in that language, "Ba'al" means 'master' or 'owner'. I think he took that name very specifically...to let all know that HE is the master.
As for the clones...I have the feeling that the 'real' Ba'al is out there skulking around somewhere, orchestrating everything to fit his schemes...*grin*
(And on a side note...Cliff Simon is VERY easy on the eyes...teehee)

Oh, very easy on the eyes....
He is also one of the most kinkiest...LOL

This thread seems to have ascended a while ago...but apparently I'm an Ancient with the power to descend threads...
Ba'al is awesome. He's evil, arrogant, darkly funny, and devious. He makes no pretense about being a good guy - if he has an evil plan to destroy everyone in the galaxy, he'll tell you. And then kill you.
The thing I really like about Ba'al is the fact that he seems to like SG-1...he has fun joking around with them - even though he's joking around about killing them or whatever. Next to Daniel Jackson, he's hands down my favorite character in SG-1.

I love how over-the-top his arrogance can be, but it's never 'campy' when he does it. Yep, he finds SG-1 amusing, sometimes useful for his nasty, wicked schemes...mostly because he knows that they're bound by their morality (and that's a good thing!). Knowing that, he can push them into situations where they'll react just as he wants them to...what's funny is when they turn tables on him!
Ba'al is my absolute favorite 'baddie'. Camulus is a close second, but only because he's such lovely eye-candy...teehee!

I liked Camulus too. But for a different reason. He sort of seemed to have the same quality of awesomeness as Ba'al.
As for "eye candy", Osiris wins IMO.

Baal... I wonder why I don't like hm more than I do; I love sarcastic characters in most things and his portrayal is undniably superb. A layered, genuine and unpredictable character. Its just that somehow I prefer Apophis - and by a margin. I can't tell you why as usually I think Baal is the character I should like more - But the arogance of Baal just cant compete with the belief of godhood of Apophis for me. The far less talking of Apophis just spoke wonders for his contempt for anything that wasn't him. No denying it, still miss him!

Apophis was more of a "Ra" type Goa'uld. Too arrogant to even be bothered with even the 'lesser' of his own kind, let alone lowly slaves.
Ba'al is arrogant, a braggart, annoying, conniving, and an absolute hoot to watch. He has a cruel side that borders on absolutely monstrous, although he can be unexpectedly civil. For me, as a viewer, I found him much more 'three-dimensional' than Apophis.
I do understand what you're saying, DrSpin...Apophis was a god, just ask him. Whereas Ba'al simply demanded to be treated as a god, and never seemed to personally buy into the whole 'godhood' routine. It was a means to get what he wanted.
