Does anyone know when they were formed and/or when they were first mentioned?

I'm hoping to find some justification of them being around after the season 7 episode "Death Knell."

Thanks :)

OH, wow...good question. I have no idea but...

I am sure someone here has an answer for you. Perhaps Robin, or NF or even Jack. ;)

I had never even thought about it. Heck, I had not thought about the NID either. LOL~

Edit: Now that I think about it, perhaps they were put together sometime after the Disclosure episode in Season Six and then introduced them in Season seven.

My best guess!

According to this, the IOA was formed soon (if not immediately) after disclosure of the program in the episode "Disclosure" (season 6, episode 17)

Edited to add: There wasn't a lot of mention of the IOA until about season 8...from what friends have told me, the group became downright obnoxious in the 'new' Stargate show. (aka "The Cam Mitchell Show featuring Vala")

There was one female representative to the IOA that was especially obnoxious. She was so irritating that I was hoping that SG-1 would throw her to those man eating bugs.

I am starting to feel majorly out of place. I liked Cam and Vala. I know, I am hated now. :s3 Yes the show was not great towards the end but I did not think it was that bad. Personally, I thought the show was already losing its edge a little in Season 8 when O'Neall was promoted. He was no longer a part of SG-1 and there were quite a few boring episodes. But that is just my opinion.

I like both casts, but for different reasons. I'll always be a Jack fan, but I support Cam and Vala

You are most certainly NOT 'hated'! My hubby enjoyed the two seasons of that 'other' show...*grin* The problem I have with Cam is the way he was brought onto the show. There were NEVER any explanations of who went where or why...ONLY if you read in the forums and on the official site did you figure it out. (I had friends from Australia who were panicked because they thought that they had missed episodes between the end of season 8 and the first episode of season 9). I understand that they needed to let the character 'grow', but basically they shoved him down our throats, at the expense of the established characters, going so far as making them suddenly stupid and behaving as if they didn't have eight years of experience going through the Stargate.

Vala was a hoot...in very SMALL doses. As the former host to a Goa'uld, logically there was no way they should have allowed her such free run of the SGC...especially so early on. The 'banter' between Vala and Daniel was grating after the first episode about those bracelets (even hubby admitted that she was a totally annoying character.) Add to that the fact that there was NO LOGICAL REASON to have her on the show or a part of the team, other than to try and bring in more Farscape fans (due to the fact that there was a mass exodus of Stargate SG-1 fans after Meridian in season 5. Most came back in season 6, when the Daniel Jackson character returned. The writers went brain dead, I suppose, and forgot that the entire freaking show, starting from the movie, was based on the friendship between Jack and Daniel.) I told hubby after the third episode of season 9 that the writers, Cooper in particular, had killed the show. Most of the 'original 'Gaters' were finished with the show by then. We said a tearful farewell, and moved on, watching our DVDs, conversing about it in forums, and keeping it alive through fan fiction. (The good stuff. Not the other stuff...*grin*) They should have ended it at season nine, rather than drag it out for another season as they did. And hubby said there were far too many *** moments in those last two seasons...the team, especially Teal'c, Sam and Daniel, acting so out of character that it really was like watching a different show. My best friend has watched all of the last two seasons on DVD. She says she wants her money back. She said she could deal with Cam and Vala, but the stories were lame, she complained about the same things hubby did, and that 'series finale' was the biggest crock of ****, the biggest waste of film and time I've ever sat through. I want my hour back!

I have to admit that at times I feel a little out of place here because I'm not an Atlantis fan (never have been), nor am I enraptured of Cam and Vala. I often feel as if I'm the only one here who even understands the basis of the entire show! I'm not saying that I am...I'm only stating that often I feel that way.

So don't feel bad, if you liked Cam and Vala, that's perfectly all right! We're all free to like and dislike characters, episodes, plot lines, etc. That's what makes it all interesting!

I agree with Robin. Lemuria is very much allowed to have her own opinion as we all are. And you are cirtainly not hated. :shug:

There is no need to feel that way...I feel thay way as well sometimes too. There is nothing wrong with "Understanding the basis of the entire show". You also study it to length for your fan fic.
That is like me on Star Trek stuff when it comes to Vulcans and such. Not many people understand the dinamics of a warp field. Just as I do not fully understand the dinamics of a wormhole that attaches all the stargates together. I also know how a starship works, crew compliment for cirtain ship, etc.
Never ever feel out of place...just relax and be yourself. If someone does not understand so be it. If they are really interested then they will find out on their own.

BTW Daniel and Jack, yum too the extreme:wink:

See, we all have our interests, and that's where we spend our time, what we research, what we enjoy. THEN we can share what we know with one another. Let's face it, there's just too much neat stuff about Stargate SG-1, and Stargate Atlantis, and Star Trek (all of the variations) for one person to know. If I tried to stuff all of that information into my head, I'd not be able to remember something vitally important...like how to operate the washing machine...wait, that's not important...well, you know what I mean...:thanx:

I know that if I take it into my head to 'use' a character from Atlantis in one of my stories (don't believe it would actually work, at least not yet...*grin*) I have friends here who can tell me EVERYTHING about that character. If I was so inclined to do a Stargate/Star Trek crossover (*shudder*...there are just some shows that should never 'meet'...and the three "Star-" series are just an example!!) but still, I know that you know about the Star Trek universe and could help me out.

It's all about having a good time...sharing what we know, teasing one another (Carson will NEVER be as hot as Daniel Jackson...teehee!). Which is what makes a forum like this, which is small enough that we actually 'know' one another, so much fun!

Those feelings of 'isolation' are just a normal part of being in a group...there's nothing wrong with anyone, it's just part of being human.

What I like the most about the folks here is that you all accept that I'm obsessed with Stargate SG-1, that Daniel Jackson is my favorite character, and you love me anyway...XD

Don't feel like that Lemuria. I did like Cam, but Vala not so much. Not because of the character itself, but the direction the writers took it. Tha's coming from a Ben Browder and Claudia Black fan.

Besides, if nothing else, they are both pretty hot! IMO........LOL!

well the charactor vala being sexual was just, i cant even begin to explain how wrong and bad that was.

Robin K
02-28-2008, 07:38 PM
There was absolutely nothing wrong with Vala being 'sexual'. The entire complaint with the Vala character is that she was introduced as a nemesis, and should have continued as such (MUCH funnier that way!) Additionally, the fact that both new characters were pushed onto the fans with no satisfactory explanations, to the detriment of established characters.

I am a Farscape fan, and have long enjoyed the work of Ben Browder and Claudia Black.

The character of Cam Mitchell is honestly a good character, the writers just did a lousy job of introducing him and 'evolving' the character over time, rather than making nearly every episode in both seasons of that "other" show revolve around him.

The character of Vala Mal Doran should NEVER have become a part of SG-1. An ally? Sure, I could have bought into that idea...although I really think she would have been a lot more fun, and a lot more 'useful' to story line plots if she had remained a nemesis who was forced to cooperate with SG-1. The way she was first created, her 'over-the-top' personality was just too much for a regular, every week character.

I have actually done a few stories like this and it was pretty easy, for me.

How about KSL-535? That was the frozen "ice planet" where Anubis was sent while he was in control of that Russian, in "Lockdown". I think it's the perfect 'vacation spot' for the boils of society that call themselves the IOA!
