What do you think? Does Jack O'Neill suffer from Attention Defecit Disorder?
Please feel free to discuss. :jackmut

I don't think so.
He deliberately cultivates an image of being a bit of an idiot and I think that at least a part of his humour is a conscious effort to keep himself from being the way he was in the movie.

I am with Miss Livia, I think he does part of it on purpose and part in earnest, he just has a lot to do and is more of an action person I think

No way. He'd never have become an Air Force officer with ADD, let alone a fighter pilot! (At least, the Navy doesn't allow it! *grin*)
Jack LOVES to play dumb. Loves to make ppl think his attention is wandering, or that he's not listening. The man is as smart as Carter and Daniel. He's just very good at hiding it.

I said no.
In fact I don't believe ADD even exists. It is made up to lable spirited kids, and put a bit more money in the pill makers pockets.

Whoa...back up the horse here. :huh1:
I guess you all do not want to know you have someone on the site with AADD (Adult Attention Defficit Disorder) Huh?
Maybe there is no such thing as Bi-Polarisim nither huh? (Don't I wish) Guess I am just crazy.
But if it was not for those "pills"..I would not be here Moderation this site. I would be in a assylum/hospital.
As for children having ADD...not all children are just 'spirited'. I had a deffinate problem when I was a child and my daughter has got it even worse. It is a chemical imbalance and in most cases it is real. Perhaps Scitisphrenia (sp?) is not real eather...perhaps there all possessed by the devil....at least that was the thnking not long ago in history. My daughter has just recently been diagnosed with Scitiphrinia (again sp?)
I am sorry if I sound like I am ranting, but I feel very strongly about this subject. I live with it everyday...
I am not saying you all don't have a right to your own opinion, please do not think that...but I also have a right to voice mine. I have been fighting this stigma for years.
As for Jack being ADD...no I do not think so.

This I can agree with.

I think Jack sits back and lets others have at it with the wisdom and pips up from time to time. He uses his randomness (which could be looked at as ADD) to break tention and it helps he get away with a lot more than he would if he was joe-serious all the time.
He's the smart-alec of the group.

Of course he does not have ADD. You can't go from being the serious, cold as ice, hard core soldier with absolutely no personality like he was in the movie to being a wise crack like he is in the series. He had to be putting on an act to throw everyone off in the series.

Jack O'Neill can not have ADD, because if he did...then i would too. Some people just have a short attention span. Like me...I would be like 'hey' reading my Physics textbook then, 'D'oh' my *** hurts from sitting too much, from there I would be like, 'oh look, my guitar', then '****, fingers hurt, watch some tv', and "then double **** need to do work/study"...the cycle goes on and on with different tasks

We all have ADD. It's because we have grown up being told to multi-task every moment of our lives.....do I think Jack has it. No. He would out right refuse to multi-task at times.

I say Jack is not ADD. There are people who thrive on mental juggling acts and nobody the wiser. High activity of the brain is not always displayed by physical manifestations.Someone I knew as a teen was always in trouble with his father for not being busy and always able to sit down while others who had done the same job, were always in steady activity. The young man just shrugged his shoulders and said to his Dad, "I do my work, just more efficiently than the others, why shouldn't I relax while I wait for YOU to catch up?" This person was always ready to resume his duties and more when needed so was he suffering from ADD or more able to use his down time to his own use rather than others? Who would you rather be in charge, the one who jumps around and acts too busy, or the laid back guy who handles things as needed in an efficient manner? I'll take a Jack type anyday. Just because the water seems slow up top, doesn't mean the river isn't fast below.

woah now i have a question having to do with ADD and one thats i dont know how to describe it first the ADD one
1.do you think i have ADD? (for those of you who know me)
2.was it wrong to go along with insanity?

There's no evidence that Jack has ADD. I think that would be dangerous in a combat situation.
As for you, cM...I dunno, but your sig is awesome. And even if you do, so? Lots of people do. As for your second question...no, Sanity is overrated. Normal people are boring. :) JMHO.

Hard saying who does and who doesn't have ADD over the computer. Insanity.....we are all a little insane.....how you use the situation is the real test of your skills.....LOL!

can people with ADD control it cause if i have ADD im good at haveing it under control im only crazy and random when i feel like being crazy and random which is usually when im bored
Anissa T
12-03-2009, 01:03 PM
The big question is, if you have it under control (generally speaking here) do you really have an issue?
We all do odd things when we are bored. I eat a lot when I'm bored. We all have different ways of dealing with our boredom. It's about making the right choices when doing so. I do crazy stuff and I don't have ADD......so, what does that say about me?
I think the thing to remember is, we strive to do the best that we can, remembering our choices affect other people, but forgiving ourselves when we can't do it right all the time, since none of us are perfect.
