I think it was in a commentary he did for an episode in season 7, Michael Shanks said he took season 6 off because he had a baby.

I'm wondering though, if that's why, why didn't he do that with the birth of his first child? Guess Amanda's tougher than him, huh? She's having a baby but she's only taking five episodes off because of it, which is fully understandable given she's the one to carry and give birth and most women do take a few weeks off for maternity leave.

Man, I didn't even realize he had more than one child. I thought he only had one.

Hmmm.....maybe it was a lesson learned from not being around much for his first child.

His first child was born to his girlfriend who played Sha're on the show. I don't think the two were ever married. The second child was born to his now wife, who I think is an actress on Andromeda? Both of his children are girls.

Oh wow! I knew about the child with the actress who played Sha're. I didn't realize his wife was pregnant. That would explain her absence from Andromeda.
