Vala puts on a brave face about how she feels about Adria, but what do you think? Does she really want to see her dead, or does she really love her?

I think Vala was lying about her step-mother's name being Adria of whom she hated. The way the lines were delivered suggested she really wanted to name her first daughter by that name. Also, she tries very hard to use her words to try and change Adria instead of resorting to violence. While I think Vala understands what's best for the galaxy, she still loves her daughter no matter what.

From what I did see (yeah, have the DVD's of the last two seasons...the Cam Mitchell Show featuring Vala)...a tiger can't change its stripes. She's still a con artist, out only for what she wants and what will be advantageous to her. Personally, I think she was spouting whatever she thought the kid wanted to hear, in an effort to find a way to escape. Love? Only herself. She might have a few maternal instincts, but very, very few. Of course, my view could be colored by the fact that, while she was a hoot as an OCCASIONAL antagonist, she's a royal pain the behind to watch on a regular basis. Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Okay, that's my nickel's worth...*big grin*

I don't know. I think she uses that as a safegaurd. (As Daniel mentions in the last episode). I mean look at the episode where she goes back to a planet to get her treasure, but in the end generally wants to help the people.

Had she been alone, she would have grabbed the treasure and run. Daniel more or less prodded her to do the right thing. Then again, I will willingly admit that I do not like the Vala character as a 'regular', nor as anything other than the con artist/antagonist she was introduced as. Had they given her character a bit of 'softness' in the beginning, it would have made her 'transition' believable. As it is, I find her grating and probably the most unbelievable character on any show I've ever seen. And I happen to be a Claudia Black fan.
