Why does she have to wear such revealing outfits? You'd think by now she'd be wearing more the kinds of clothes the others wear.
But then again their clothes look more like Star Trek rejects.

lol. Star trek rejects. love it!
I think Teyla's clothes are more of a cultural thing, I suppose it is what her people are used to. They seem to be alright for fighting in, I mean if they were revealing but impractical I would think that they were being stupid in her costuming but they don't seem to be in the way.

I've been wondering that since last season. It's not a cultural thing. They want you to think that, but it isn't. Look at the above picture. 1) fancy sequence. Yeah, pretty sure she didn't find that in a cave. 2) That material looks like some kind of stretch material mixed with maybe suede straps.
Not stuff hanging around the planet.

Well they say sex sells and it's obvious with Atlantis they're trying to do some of that, having Shep kiss a girl as much as possible, dress Teyla in more provacative outfits.
Personally sex doesn't sell to me. I'm a writer so I'm actually focused on how good the plot line is and how good the characters are.

I'm not a writer, but I don't like "just because" stuff. I feel if you don't have a story, all the "sex" does you no good.
Although, I will admit, as long as it's done right, wardrobe does have it's place.

hmm.. you make a good point. and sex does not sell for me either. I like a good storyline. It would make more sense if her costumes were a sort of leather or animal skin (I really don't like animal skin clothes) I wonder what sort of material her people really would have used.

I don't think her clothes are revealing, I think they seem reasonable based on the type of place she used to live in. Shes only releaving stomach and arms, only someone who has lived under the rock for his entire life would find that revealing.
I would say the tok'ra anise's clothes were reavealing

Anise's clothes were almost the same as Teyla's, save the one short skirt. Matter of fact Anise's cropped, belly showing top was sometimes long sleeve. So, what's the difference? FYI, never lived under a rock........:raz:

Well, a young man of your age would notice that...LOL
For some of us that is just...well the norm for Sci-fi shows. SG1 and Atlantis are very tame considering.
I think Teyla's clothes are covering, but revealing at the same time. She has that subtle sexy look of a born and bred warrior.
LOL...this comming from a person that is not very keen on the charater.

She has that subtle sexy look of a born and bred warrior.
Thats more like it, it suits her characters personality. Like a djungle-woman-warrior

Yet not a single one of her other people (that we have seen) wore the same subtle type of clothing. Besides, my point was more that they were unrealistic given the area she lived in. Especially, that long leather skirt she has. Anyhow, I suppose it doesn't help that I compare it to normal American military/warrior uniforms which leave plenty to the imagination. I just don't understand, even as a warrior what is the need to have a shirt that shows off your belly button?
BTW, just because I said Anise's clothes were similar doesn't mean I wasn't critical of her uniform either. Non rock living person didn't care for that one either.

I was not trying to pick on any one here... I was just voicing my opinion. They are just bringing a sexyness to the show thats all. I was just comparing her outfit to other sc-fi shows and such.
On a warrior basis...An exposed belly is just a target, as well as the long skirt, no matter the slits...tanglement. Yes, I agee her other people do not dress exactly like her.
Like I said, they are just bringing sexyness to the show.
As for Anise's clothing...again, yes inappropreate but that is just the wardrobe department and writers bringing sexyness to the show.
Just me :2cents:

Personally, I don't find her outfits innapropriat or 'sexy.' I like her outfits as much as anyone elses. It seems like it's just what she's comfortable with. I mean, have any of you ever tried to fight in the military fatigues? or even just sweat pants and a T-Shirt, it's incredibally hard. I would love to have a close fitting shirt that only covers the top and shorts to fight in, yes, the slits are a little impractical, but I think it may be as much for ritual as anything.
For Halloween last year, I made a costume like her stick fighting outfit.

Though it's not exactly the same, and it does cover more due to fear of my grandmothers... It is still her outfit and I will probably wear it again for Holloween.

Actually, I didn't find it difficult at all. I spent 7 years in the Army and didn't really see the difficulty, save the headgear would rarely stay on while in actual hand to hand combat. Although, I would readily admit, sweats and a tshirt (military PT clothing) are easier, I found no hinderance from the fatigues themselves.
Perhaps I did not clarify. My opposition wasn't just cause I thought it was impractical, but would you have found some of those items that her costumes were made of lying around to use in her wardrobe. I'm guessing no. So, I couldn't figure out why they would have her wearing them. JMHO.

I see your point now, she would not have been able to find the sequens and such in a cave... but.. I still like her clothing.
I do hand to hand self defence and once you have your oponant on the ground, it's all about not giving them room to move at all. So, I find that baggy t-shirts and sweet pants get in the way... plus, the sweat pants do not like to stay up where they should be. But, I'm not allowed to wear anything but T-shirts and sweats or BDU pants and a T-Shirt. The tactical boots are really whats worst about getting in the way.
But I get your point.
