If you could write an episode solely to get to know Mitchell better, what would you put in it?

One with some flash backs about how he had been trying to get involved with the SGC

Have him forced to face his deepest pain in the witness of the rest of the team so that they suddenly saw his depth.

That's a good one Carter. I would also like to know what kind of people he hangs out with. I would also like to know what his hobbies are and a litte more about his military background. I mean, we know he is/was a pilot, but what did he do even before that. Give some insight to his area of expertise.

I wouldn't dedicate an episode to him. Have bits of his past and character come out in dribs and drabs over a few episodes devoted to the original cast, draw parallels or contrasts to them, and try to arouse the audience's curiousity.

It's too soon for people to really care about the character the way we do about the others and I think that letting him dominate the stories is a mistake.

One thing I think that they could do is introduce some conflict with the rest of the team, have Sam want to go with a different course of action than Mitchell and Teal'c and Daniel naturally siding with her so that we can get a glimpse into Mitchell's mind and the difficulties he is having trying to break into a very close-knit group.

wow. I like Livia's idea, (that seems really well thought out), if you stretch it over a few episodes then the audience is more likely to take what they have learnt and think about it and try to work out more then what they are told. (so they really try and figure out the character and give him a fair chance in the show) Great idea!
