Ever since they first introduced Joes character on SG1 and then Atlantis, I said to myself he looks so familiar or maybe his mannerisms are familiar.
I figured it out. This will be a stretch for those who haven't seen the show (and it's an old show). Shep reminds me so much (the mannerisms) of Don Adams character on Get Smart (Agent 86). Saw a commercial of the show today and a lightbulb went on in my head.

Watcha think?

Maybe is you see the show again. I know it may be a bit of a stretch, but I think he does. I also, realize "spy" and "soldier", seem a bit different. But forget that and think about the way he purses his lips and rolls his eyes.

For me I do not see it...and I watched the show all the time as a kid. Besides I do not think Joes character is that dumb, even the mannerisims...but that is just me.
Besides Joe is verra cute.
Agent 86...death be to the agent with that number. Get it...old mob stuff of 86 the guy?

I see more of Jack O'Neill in Sheppard then Agent 86.. but that's just cause I like to notice scarcasm a lot.

I was just thinking that actually...That Sheppard is like a younger version of O'Neill....

In some aspects I suppose.

Well, Sheppard is supposed to be Jack. That's how a spin-off works. You put similar characters with similar traits in similar events and hope no one notices. But there are a lot of parallels I could point out about almost every episode of Atlantis. Not that it makes them any less valid.

Well, Sheppard is supposed to be Jack.
Oh gosh, I hope every knew spin off/show doesn't work like that. And, here, I thought the writers developed "new" characters. I would be bored out of my mind if all the characters were the same. Similarities I understand, especially with certain types of fields/work in the military (although I will admit, Jack isn't your standard military persona), because it takes a certain type of persona to do that type of work, but "suppose to be the same". No, I don't like that one bit.

Well, I don't think they will openly admit it, but it's definately there.
Sheppard/Jack - scarcasitic military officer who likes to mock their enemies and has a lack of dicipline for authority figures.
Daniel/Teyla - Cultural leason who is the moral counterpart and often sees things others miss.
Carter/McKay - Scienticfic Deus Ex Machina who's there to solve problems, explain situations, and is a foil for the miliary type.
Teal'c/Ronon - Bad ***, often misunderstood, alien comrade who has a life of his own that often comes into play and who is loyal to the group no matter what.
But this isn't new to Stargate. Look at the different Star Trek franchises or Soap Operas.
