The majority of images used for the rotating banners and various images I've used on my site have come from high quality photographs which I found available online at a web site. Very nice.

Well now that web site is closed after being in existance for three years with this message:

NBC Universal has forbidden us to release high quality photography for Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1, so we decided to close the site. This was also our only option.

WHY, WHY, WHY would they forbid it? There was no charge for the photographs, it was for fan enjoyment only.

Oh, man that sucks bigtime.
Maybe we can all look around and see if we can find any sites for High quality pix for ya Carter.
Just trying to help ya.

This was also our only option.
What a load of it. I am not happy now. :(
I like your work Carter.

I can make screen caps from my dvd's. What this site had was high quality episode stills and promo shots of the cast.

Here's a post made from the Gateworld people on their forums...

Re: NBC yanks Stargate site!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WOW. This is a stunning blow to Stargate online.

Let me catch you up on where GateWorld is at with NBC Universal's press people, which no doubt sheds light on what has happened to Emedian. Before Season 10 / 3 began last summer, our login access to the NBC Universal press site (where GW and Emedien have heretofor gotten most of the episodic and cast photos) suddenly stopped working. It's not the first time it's happened, so I didn't read anything into it. I sent a help desk request and waited.

After weeks of no response, I e-mailed again. Eventually, I went knocking on the doors of my human contacts at SCI FI. They were unable to help, since higher-ups at NBC-Uni were in control of the press site. I e-mailed and e-mailed, and for nine months received not even (the dignity of) a response.

GateWorld, mind you, is a fairly high-traffic site which actively promotes four different NBC-Uni series through editorial coverage (and not just photo galleries): Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, and now NBC's crowing jewel, Heroes. When SCI FI cancelled SG-1 and started demonstrating to the world at large that it has no interest in spending its time and money promoting Stargate, for me the pieces started falling into place.

This week, nine months after the blackout began, I finally received a reply from NBC Universal. GateWorld's access to the press materials has been restored on a limited basis: low-res photos only, and we are to use them only within editorial coverage, and not present them in gallery form.

I can continue to speculate as to why they have made this move and why they believe they have to reign in online use of photos that are taken exclusively to promote the show in such a manner as GateWorld does. In fact, no media outlet puts episodic photography to such good use as sites like GateWorld and Emedien. Last year on the set I met one of the unit photographers, who said she was elated to see so much of her work published at one place.

The good news is that GateWorld also has a good relationship with MGM, which co-owns the photography. We've recently secured a deal that will permit us to publish photos straight from the MGM archives, many of which you just won't find anywhere else in print or online. (Now that Emedien has been taken offline, we may also look at starting to publish some hi-res photos.) The timing of all this is actually a remarkable coincidence -- the bomb from NBC and the green light from MGM reached my inbox within 12 hours of one another.

MGM, you see, wants to promote Stargate and use its resources to keep the fans excited about the shows. We couldn't be more excited to have access to their photo archives, so please stay tuned in the weeks ahead!
