I had always assumed Ben was short for Benjamin. It never occured to me that it was Benedic which isn't even his first name.

His first name is Robert.

I've never seen it spelled that way before. Benedict I think is how I've seen it spelled, like in Benedict Arnold.

I probably assumed it was Benjamin too. I think Bengali would be even cooler. I think Ben suits him better than Rob or Robert, but maybe Robbie would work for him. Or we could call him Benny. We could call him Benji even if his name isn't really Benjamin. We could call him Roben. Ooh! I like Roben! Seriously! We should all start calling him Roben!

Yeah, I was having a hard time with Robert too. But, I just think that was because I've always thought his first name was Ben.
