View Full Version : Who would you most want your picture taken with?

I've seen online where people who go to Stargate Conventions can have their picture taken with cast members who are there. For example here's (http://pics.livejournal.com/crippsy_99/pic/001s4k2t/s640x480) one I found of a fan with Joe Flanigan.

So here's my question. If you could go to a convention and get your picture taken with just one cast member, who would you most want that cast member to be? Richard Dean Anderson is out because he never goes to conventions, so you'll have to pick someone else. I think pretty much everyone else from the two shows have been at conventions as well as some of the guest stars.

I think I would choose Joe Flanigan just because he's so hot. I think Chris Judge second because he's cool.

Hmmm....that's a tough one.

SG1: So wish RDA was there, but that leaves me Ben Browder. Oh wait, I really like Amanda Tapping.

Atlantis: So Joe Flannigan......

Why do we have to choose?

:thanx:

You gotta choose 'cause that's how the thread goes. ;) I would imagine if you went to one you could pay to have your picture taken with all of them.

RDA should pluck up the courage and go to a convention. But maybe he's seen Galaxy Quest and is afraid. :p I myself have never been to any kind of convention but I think it would be fun to go to at least one Stargate convention. I would have liked to have gone to a Star Trek convention back when James Doohan was still alive to meet him. Scotty's my all time favorite Star Trek character. Though meeting Patrick Stewart would be cool. I adore Patrick Stewart as an actor.

I really like both James Doohan and Patrick Stewart as well. I couldn't picture any other person playing Picard on TNG.

Oh and I love Galaxy Quest. One of my favorite movies.

Colonel Carter
01-05-2007, 02:40 AM
Galaxy Quest is a great movie. I especially liked the guy who played the engineer, the same actor who later went on to play Monk. And anything with Alan Rickman is gonna be good. He did the voice of Marvin in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

They clearly wrote Picard to fit the actor who played him. Never in a million years could I see Patrick Stewart acting like James T. Kirk. Picard is more suave and sophisticated, Riker being the one to do the Kirk stuff. I don't think I've ever seen Patrick Stewart in a role I didn't like. He was awesome in Dune.

Anissa T

I do like Tony Shaloub. Even after all these years, he makes me laugh so hard when I watch Monk. I think he did great in Galaxy Quest. I like Alan Rickman too. Oddly enough, although, not award winning, I really did enjoy Hitchhiker's Guide. A lot of people didn't get it, but you have to have read the book or played teh game growing up to get the humour.

Colonel Carter

Oh I disagree. I never read the book or played the game and I understood the humor. :)

Anissa T

You are a special breed then. I saw the movie in the theater and at the end, half the movie theater was literally giving the movie a standing ovation and the other half was booing because they didn't understand it.

Colonel Carter
01-05-2007, 05:56 PM
Fascinating. I've never gone to a movie where people applauded or booed at the end. The most kind of reaction I ever saw was to The Passion of the Christ where people sat speechless in their seats after the movie was over.

Anissa T
01-05-2007, 07:58 PM
Oh man, we I went to see the Passion of the Christ, at the end I was in tears. Which says a lot because I "rarely" cry watching movies. But, the theater was literally "still". I mean, not a peep. People weren't even sure they should leave.

Jack, you should of gotten your picture taken with her on the plane!

Oh yeah, I wonder why RDA doesn't go to the conventions.
I read where Michael Shanks said he joked with RDA about the conventions and Galaxy Quest. I'm sure that hasn't helped him feel comfortable about going to them. :raz:

To be honest, I don't think RDA was ever a reall fan of the fans.

A guy my wife works with races go-carts (the fast ones, not the family fun park ones) and years ago when he was in LA preparing for a race they were doing this hollywood race there where celebs raced eached other. Once of the celebs was RDA apparently RDA was being a real A$$ about everything. Ofcourse this was back in his soap opera days, so maybe younger and cockier version of RDA back then.

Any way, I never really got the impression that RDA was a fan of the fans.

oh yea, the interview was all fake, I never met AT. If I had, believe me I would have found a camera and posted the photo. With that said I will spout some truth here.

Years ago I was in the NAVY and met a girl who I became romanticly involved with. She was from Prince George British Columbia about 10 hours north of Vancouver. At the time I met her, she was going to school in Victoria BC which is right across the river from Vancouver. Any way things did not work out between us, but we have remained friends. About a month ago she contacted me about doing some programming work for her, and somehow durring this conversation we started talking about Stargate and my desire to go to the convention in Vancouver. She did not know what it was, but told me her friend and friends husband work for Stargate in Vancouver. So she was going to ask her friend if she worked on the show Stargate and let me know. So I'm still waiting for her to get back with me. So I still have hope I may be able to get a connection to the show.

So stay tuned and I will let you know how that turns out.

Colonel Carter
01-10-2007, 08:05 PM
That would be very cool if you could go, either to the convention or maybe get on the set and see some of the filming.

RDA does strike me as the type of person who is not into fans, just from what I've seen of interviews and behind the scenes stuff. Not sure if it's ego or self-detrementation or a combo of those or something else. I also got the impression it took a little bit for him to warm up to his three co-stars though they seemed to be fast friends with each other as they somehow met and clung together during auditions. And I think watching the show you feel more of a connection between Sam, Daniel, and Teal'c.

I think RDA is a great actor but from what I've seen of him personally he's never been at the top of my list of Stargate cast I'd like to meet in person. Simply because he doesn't seem to care much for fans. I get the impression that Amanda and Chris would be the most gracious to fans. All for SG-1 of course. For Atlantis I get the impression that Joe, Torri, Rachel, and perhaps the guy who plays Ronon would be the most gracious to fans. Though I don't get the impression that anyone would have a fan reaction on Atlantis like RDA seems to have.

Behind the scenes and interviews really do tell a lot about cast members personalities I think.

From Atlantis: David Hewlett hands down!

For me it would be Paul McGillion first and formost and then David Hewlett. Considering what good friends they are they would probebly be in the same pix as me. LOL
If not them then of course Joe Flannigan.

Well, I am going to Dragon Con this Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta, GA. Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge are scheduled to be there so I will be having my picture taken with them.:yea:

If I could chose anyone else, I think I am going to have to go with Ben Browder.

Not easy....
But I think I would choose Amanda for three reasons:

1) She's one of my two favorites character in SG1....

2) When we see her in behind the scenes, interviews etc she seems to be very nice and funny (sometimes a little crazy wich is even better ! :p), more than Michael Shanks for instance.

3) some friends of mine who came to a Sanctuary convention and could have taken pictures with her, Paul Mc Gillion and Damian Kindler, said being near her was some kind of... magic. They loved it !

For Atlantis's cast that would be Paul because I liked Carson so much and this same friends came back with great memories from their meeting with him...

One of them, when she found herself in front of him for the autograph and the picture, was so touched that all she could say was "I'm sorry for you dead" and she was about to cry. He looked at her, smiled and huged her saying "Yes I know, me too" until she smile again at him. That meaned a lot for her and I think it was very kind from him...

Yeah, he is easy on the eyes, isn't he? My friend said he is just a charming person to meet...and that when he talks to the fans, it's as if he's talking with good friends, not total strangers. Steve Bacic is very shy until he's been around someone for awhile. She said by the end of the convention in Vancouver he was teasing all of the volunteers.

You are absolutely right about both guys. I met them both at Dragon Con last year.

I was a part of Steve's fan club so we got to spend some private time with him at the con. We were at this bar called the Sky Lounge at the Marriott (which was one of the hotels that hosted the con) and he hung out with us for the longest and joked around with us. He was a kidder all weekend. You ought to see what he wrote on my photo of him.XD I have this hysterical photo of me, Steve, and Kevin Sorbo. LOL. They did a group photo with me since it was my birthday. :woo:

As far as Cliff goes he was very nice. A funny story. My friends and I went over to his table (we lucked out no one was there at that moment) and he was about to sign a photo of him as Baal for me. He shook my hand and asked how I was. He was about to sign the photo and he said "Would you like for me to make this out to Laura?" I said "Yes! How did you know my name?" I did not tell him my name. He smiled at me and pointed at my Con membership badge. It had my name on it.:blush:XDXD

Actually, funny you should mention RDA. He's going to gatecon and I was lucky enough to get ahold of a VIP ticket in which I'll be able to get my picture taken with him *fans self* I'm also getting one taken with Michael Shanks at the Creation Vancouver convention. Ironically they have an offer where you can get a picture taken with him and his wife, but I'm like 'why would I want to be reminded he's taken?' I want to live the fantasy! >.<

I'd LOVE to get a picture taken with David Hewlett. He's so busy with Sebastian it doesn't look like he'll be doing any conventions this year. :(

Oh yeah, I wonder why RDA doesn't go to the conventions.

On his unofficial website it states that he's a very private man. He did a radio interview in Ireland not too long ago and met a fan who had won a contest on the radio and he seemed really nice towards her, but even he admitted that it was his first time in Ireland (He was promoting Halo 3).

I think some people just like their space. I'm obviously a little biased because I'm in love with RDA, but I'll meet him in August and let you guys know if it was all that I'd hope it would be or if it shattered me. (The only reason he's doing Gatecon is because Gatecon is running a huge charity for one of the charities RDA really believes in... a 'save the oceans' charity thing)

OK, I think this is where I start getting hate mail: I have photos of me with RDA, AT, MS, CJ and DSD as well as Claudia Black, David & Kate Hewlett, Rachel Luttrell, Gary Jones, Dan Shea, Carmen A (still can't spell that name), Cliff Simon, Colin Cunningham, JR Bourne and Suanne Braun (played games on the Wii with the last two after winning charity auction...). I'm also booked in for Chevron 7.2 which is currently due to have Joe Flanigan, Jason Momoa, Alexis Cruz, Peter Williams and Colin Cunningham at (but if this is the final list, I'd be amased as there is always a last minute cancellation).

So... I am desperate to meet Teryl as she is the only original SG-1 star I'm yet to meet (she's cancelled two conventions I have gone to now...). My other real wants are the other two docs (Paul McGillion and Jewel Staite) and Master Bra'tac himself, Tony Amendola.

Nope - I don't even have a passport! I've only ever been to conventions in England and, as I'm trying to buy a house at the moment, I suspect that Chevron 7.2 will be my last for a couple of years at least...

May I just say that in many ways, the best guest is Colin Cunningham - he does magic tricks in the bar which are fracking IMPOSSIBLE. I still have a spoon that he bent in front of me a couple of years back...

Also on my meet list (though more for Firefly than Stargate has to be Morena Bacharan... :thor4)

LOL! I'm not the convention type. I honestly don't care about the actors, although I'm very interested and enthralled with the characters. I have never been able to justify the cost just to see people I have no interest in to begin with, although my best friend, who is a volunteer at the Creation conventions, would bop me over the head and insist it's totally about being with other fans. Yeah...I can get that 'fix' right here...and it doesn't cost a small fortune to do it.

DrSpin, I so understand about house buying. Of course, purchasing a house is just the beginning! (Ever see the Tom Hanks movie "The Money Pit"? It's true! Maybe not every house to that extreme, but there's always something that needs to be fixed, or that you'll want to do to make it totally yours.) My best friend said that Colin Cunningham took exception to the fact that people had paid to meet him and Cliff Simon at a dessert party...and were told they weren't allowed to take photos. So, he asked if HE could take photos. He was told that he could. So he went around to each table, held the cameras, and took photos of himself with each of the guests...took a few of Cliff and the guests as well. Now THAT is someone who respects and enjoys the fans! LOL! (She was a guest at that function, not a volunteer).

I love conventions. I go to Dragon Con in Atlanta every year. I will admit, a huge part of it is to meet the celebrities, but it is true that another part is being with other fans. You realize how true that is, especially on Friday and Saturday night at the con at the PULSE bar. HEHEHEHEHEHE. I plan on going again in 2009. I already have my hotel booked and the first night paid for.

DrSpin, I was fortunate enough to meet Jewel Staite at Dragon this year. I did not have my photo taken with her, but I did get her autograph. She was a very nice person.

All I'll say about the place I'm looking at is that somethings are impressively archaic - both the water heating and what I shall call (for lack of a better term) the central heating look like they came from the 1930s... Thank you for the likening to the Money Pit - just what I wanted to hear...

Yup. So him. And definitely loves his fans. He arrived early at a convention, had someone take his bags to his room and within 3 minutes (no exaggeration) was sitting down and chatting with us on the sofas at the front of the hotel. If there is a better guest, I'm yet to meet them.

Sorry DrSpin, didn't mean to bring you down. We own an older home, and are just now getting to where we can start working on it (raising, feeding and educating Son came first!)

The nice thing about older homes, in spite of their problems (we have to upgrade the wiring in this house!) is that there is quality that you can't find in older homes...such as our solid oak hardwood floors. We couldn't afford to put down floors as lovely as what we have...that are original. There's also the lure and the convenience/desirability of living in a well established neighborhood. Where we live, there's more than 10 feet between the houses...we actually have a 'front yard', a 'back yard', and a 'side yard'. And room to do the things we want to do. Can't find that in newer neighborhoods!

Also, believe it or not, the quality of the basic construction of an older home is usually better, the fact that it's still standing/livable is the proof. Our home is over 40 years old, and I don't have cracks in the walls/ceiling; we have friends who moved into a house built two years ago, and they have a crack in one dining room wall that runs from ceiling to floor. The result of building on 'fill dirt' before any settling had occurred. Years ago, that wasn't allowed. Now, the greed for profit by developers/builders/realtors has resulted in poorly thought out regulations. When those houses are literally falling down, mine will still be standing.

Then...there's the joy and excitement of being able to make a place totally your own. Can't achieve that in an apartment, eh? Hubby and I actually enjoy doing the repairs, and discussing/planning for the work that we're going to be doing. We've remodeled the bathroom, and there's so much pride in knowing that we did the work, and that it looks great. (Okay, I'm already wanting to repaint, but painting isn't that big of a deal! *grin*)

Owning your home is an investment in your future, and that's never a bad thing!

Re Colin Cunningham...I have heard that over and over again...I think he would be one of the few that I would actually want to meet!

You are probably right on some actors. This time the only person that I just got a photograph only with was Torri Higginson. I already had her autograph from a previous Dragon Con. She actually remembered me and is a super nice person. But there are those actors that will not take a photo with you. I ran into a few. Autographs only.

I was about to go to a con in Manchester about 4 years ago. It was more along the lines of Lord of the Rings. I am now glad I did not go. Even though my favorite actor, Craig Parker was there, I heard from more than one person that the hotel was terrible.

To me its small compared to the drive it takes me to get from one end of Ontario to another.

Lets see...from Windsor to the Quebec border that's 817.9 km east/northeast.
Highway 11 is one of the longest of Ontario's King's Highways, with a current length of about 1,780 kilometers (1,106 miles).

So, driving from Windsor,ON to Kenora, ON is roughly about 2,253 km (about 1,400 miles) – about 26 hours. (driving straight, no stops)
Kenora, is about 30 Km from the border of Manitoba and Ontario. (in the north)
Windsor is on the border of the US. @ Detroit.

You can't even drive up to Port Severn in the very North by Hudson Bay. Need to go by plane or something like that.

In total Ontario is...total 1,076,395 km2 (415,598 sq mi)
-Land 917,741 km2 (354,342 sq mi)
-Water (%) 158,654 km2 (61,257 sq mi) (14.8%)

Where as Washington State is... (as you know)
- Total 71,342 sq mi (184,827 km²)
- Width 240 miles (400 km)
- Length 360 miles (580 km)

That's why I called it small. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn313/AngelicaConstantine/Icons/C_LAUGH.gif
I know, I know I am a pain in the butt but you lubs me anyhoo.... http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn313/AngelicaConstantine/Icons/smiley-bighug.gif

The only State that's bigger than the Provence of Ontario is Alaska. @ 663,268 sq miles (1,717,854 km²)

I tells ya if I lived back when Russia was selling Alaskan land for a Million bucks, roughly, I would have kicked the Prime Ministers butt at the time telling him to buy it. LMAO XD

I'm here to tell ya, the width is more than 240 miles. I've clocked it. Maybe as the crow flies it's 240 miles wide. But, from Ft. Lewis, to the edge of Spokane is 342 miles. There is still another 80-100 miles to the coast and about another 30-40 miles from Spokane to Idaho.

Or, do you mean width as in north and south. When you say width, I think east to west.

LOL!

I would like to see all of you drive from one end of Texas to another. That is the b****. Texarkanan to El Paso is over a days drive. That is hard driving too. And of course there is the lovely distance from Amarillo to Brownsville.

I have been to Seattle and have driven in rush hour traffic. It is heavy, but nothing like Dallas. I live about 17 miles from my office and on a good day it takes about an hour to get there. Plus you have to drive like a nascar driver if you are on the freeways or you will get creamed.

AC, tell them how many times I have been talking on my cellphone to you while in traffic and ended up screaming my head off at other people for stupid driving.

LOL!

Yeah, the state isn't THAT small. It takes us a good 7-9 hours (depending on the kiddos) to drive from here to Spokane.

Edit: I won't even get into how long it would take during holidays and snow storms.

But, Robin probably only lives about oh 110-120 miles. What's that 1 1/2 to 2 hours Robin?

Hmm...Fort Lewis and McChord are south of Tacoma...yeah, about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, depending on traffic. It takes a full forty-five minutes to an hour just to get to I-5 anymore (which is totally annoying!), about 30 minutes to Everett, and then Seattle is another 30-45 minutes...30-45 to Tacoma. Of course, that is if the traffic is actually moving, and the idiots have remained at home...*grin*

We can make it to Spokane in about 7 hours...if I drive...

I still don't understand why they call it 'rush hour traffic' when NO ONE is rushing anywhere...LOL!

Lem, I don't know when you drove up here last, but in the past 3 years...it's gotten unbelievably bad! We used to be able to make it through Seattle in under an hour. You're lucky to make it from Mount Lake Terrace/Lynnwood to Mercer Street in an hour...and that's basically just crossing the bridge!

Last time I was in Seattle was about 4 years ago.

When my mother and I drove out here from VA, we got into Seattle at 230pm and didn't get to Lacey until 530pm. It's only 65 miles apart. And, I swear it should be against the law to use your horn.

Returning to our original programming...
For me it's a tossup between Chris Judge and Amanda Tapping...but Ben Browder or Claudia Black would be pretty cool too.
From Atlantis, David Hewlett and Jason Momoa...Joe Flanigan too I guess.

All decent people to meet - but if you haven't met any of these yet, I'd have to say that Amanda Tapping and David Hewlett would be terrific people to meet first - both terrific at conventions.
