View Full Version : Should the new series explore another legend?

Colonel Carter

SG-1 has explored some of the Arthurian legend and the legend of some ancient gods. I do think they picked some names that were actually real and not made up for the show. Atlantis obviously is exploring the legend of the last city/continent of Atlantis.

With the new series coming out, do you think their main premise should be exploring another legend, or continue the Arthurian legend, or something brand new? If you think they should explore another ancient legend, which one?

I'll have to come back with my answer after I think about what other ancient legends there are.

Yeah, I'd have to look into different legends as well. However, I'm already a bit exhausted on the Arthurian legend.

I wouldn't mind the Arthurian legend if it was more involved than it has been. I probably wouldn't mind it much either if it didn't have to involve the Ancients. The Ancients and Ori are boring since you never really see them. It's like talking about ghosts but never seeing any.

Maybe that's my problem.

The ancient civilization I got my username from is a possible new adventure.

The ancient lost civilization of Lemuria was supposedly advanced like the old Atlantis legends say Atlantis was. Also, Lemuria predates Atlantis. Maybe they might stumble onto something that leads them to search out Lemuria.

Im hoping they will explore a legend. The legend of Lemuria sounds pretty grabbing

Im also hoping theyll keep the ancients, and have the ancients, after not doing anything to help with the ori, start to split... Would be interesting story they could use to expand on some moral ideas.

Hmm... wasn't there a prophecy about the moon turning to blood? ;) I remember they mentioned it in Ghostbusters.

Anissa T

I don't know about it turning to "blood". But doesn't the Bible say something like the moon turning "red like blood"?

Well, I can tell you it looks cool. :p

Ill probably photoshop it into a signature later....

LOL!

I looked up a couple of passages and most of them make mention the God bringing darkness over the land. I think that is what was meant by the comment in Ghostbusters. Of course, I'm assuming here. I haven't seen that movie in ages.

I forgot the Ghostbuster's name. Ray I think was the head guy with all the sarcasm, then there was the tall nerdy one, then there was a black one, and then there was a guy who was kinda pudgy but I can't remember his name. He was the one that mentioned in the car to the black Ghostbuster when he said he thought the reason they were seeing all these ghosts is that the dead were rising from their graves like it said in the Bible.

Dude, I don't want to rise and be anything like Slimer! :thbt:

LOL!

Peter was the head guy and Ray was the "pudgy" one. Also, the black guy was Winston Zeddmore. I love that name.

You forgot the geek's name.

Anissa T

That would be Egon Spengler. Then there was Louis.....

Colonel Carter

How could I forget a name like Egon? Great name. Louis was never a real ghostbuster that I can recall. In the first movie he got taken by an ancient evil dog. In the second, I just remember he was babysitting when the baby was taken. I'm wishing I had those movies on dvd at the moment, I'm in the mood to watch them.

I think it will have to do with some kind of mythology, sg-1 is obviously very inspired by mythology, which I sometimes think is bad, that Thor is named after a scandinavian god, langara is a golf court in canada and kelowna is a town in canada. I like the idea of egyptian gods being goa'ould

A legend the new series should explore..... I'm thinking Jesus as and Ancient or Ori think on it Jesus had the abiltiy to heal by touch etc... sounds like technology to me but i dont think it was touch on because of religous zelots.

New series better have something interesting..Atlantis lost my attention after the first season and then again when Carter left. Whatever they pick to go in depth with...let's hope it is funny, series, and drama. Like a novela (mexican show)

I hope the new series has a lot of space combat, preferably with fleets of Deep Space Carriers engaging hordes of new baddass aliens

I like Lemeria's idea. I've alway's liked the way that they explored the mythology and such on SG-1 and then the legend of the lost city of Atlantis. They should do somthing interesting though. Something totally new, something interesting that has a whole new idea.

Um...that's not what NF is saying at all. Read what she said again. LIKE a novela (Mexican show) which has humor, drama and angst in it.

If any of you watched stargate in Spanish it is horrible...(don't ask why but my grandmother wanted to know why i like scifi, I had the two first seasons so it was watched in spanish...agh it was no good.) Humor is good for a show and so is seriousness and anything scientific. They better make sense in the science part of the science fiction show because Atlantis was killin'. If you guess had never watched a novela watch one because it isn't that hard to watch. I mean the hands and the songs with the angst, humor, and serious are very easy to understand. (Keep in mind that I only understand some Spanish and don't speak much of it at all. Very hard to speak to a grandmother who for some reason does only speak spanish. Yes! My parents had tried to help me learn but Spanish wasn't my thing!)
Well, can't wait what they put on the next show but it better at least make sense in some parts and not skip. (Wraith and Ancients, need more info on those people.)
Also, sense I love planes (wo ho!) the show better have cool aerospace plane designs. (I have my own designs since i study that in college.) I hope the girls in the show aren't that...girly and have at least some brains in them. I read the cast and well, partially worried.
Other than that...this show might indeed rock.

(Carter: You didn't think the Colonel had a telescope on his roof just to look at the neighbors, did you?
O'Neill: Not initially. )

OK - well I do like the mythology links there were in SG-1 so I vote yes. But as for who and when, I wondered about going as far back as we know. The oldest known religions on Earth belonged to the Mesopotamian civilisation (circa 5000 BC). This is 3000 years after Ra arrived but 2000 years before the Earth Stargate was sealed and the Goa'uld thrown off Earth.

This probably wouldn't involve the fish people from Fire and Water. OK, I do like history and there is a slight flaw here -Omoroko was killed fighting the Goa'uld in Babylon (has to be in the time period of Babylon as writing was Babylonic Cuniform - only problem was that Babylon wasn't built until 2000 BC and that's 1000 years after Ra's forces were thrown off Earth. So... the writers werten't quite as good at history as they thought! [Small interesting point - Belus, the Goa'uld who killed Omoroco in Fire and Water, has an alternative name sometimes - Ba'al. Heard of him?]

Anyway, as you may have guessed, I love mythology in Stargate - just adds so much to it - that I'd love to see it continue in Universe.

At this point in time, the oldest known civilization is that of the Sumerians, who rose to dominance about 3500 BCE. Of course, there had to have been precursors...I have my own personal theories on that.

The writers made several errors, but still, for the most part the mythology is what made the show...tying our own myths to the Goa'uld who had dominated the planet for centuries.

As for "Stargate Universe", I've read what it's supposed to be, the characters, etc. Um...nope. Not at all interesting to me. Won't be wasting my time on it. How does that saying go..."Fool me once, shame on you...Fool me twice, shame on me." Considering the way the suits view/treat the fans...nope, not going to waste any time or energy on it. Besides, the suits wanted 'younger' fans for this show. Power to 'em.
