In a hand to hand fight, who do you think would win - Teal'c or Ronon?

I gotta go with Tealc
Colonel Carter

I did too just because he's had a lot more experience and he's not in his declining years, so to say, yet where he can be beaten by a young whipper snapper. I do think it would be very cool to see a scene where they take each other on. For example, Teal'c comes to Atlantis and is asked to test the fighting skills of the people there and help train them in fighting techniques. When he takes on Ronon he finds Ronon stocked full of cockiness and attitude because he doesn't think there's anything Teal'c can teach him and that becomes Ronon's downfall. Teal'c defeats him, Ronon gains respect from him and is willing to learn.

Like your story. Tis cool. BUT.....
You don't remember the episode where Ronan killed dozens of Wraith like nothing. Not to mention all those years of running from the Wraith.
Wraith>Goa'uld
Ronan's Experience>Teal'c Age and Experience
Ronan has so many hidden knives and those pistols. I love Teal'c, but he got nothing on Ronan.

I don't know. See Teal'C is a bit more conservative than Ronan. I think that would work to Teal'C advantage. I feel like Ronan would under estimate Teal'C in that respect.
And yeah, Ronan killed all those Wraith, but Teal'C is not without his victories as well. And we all know Teal'C has been around quite a bit (quite a bit) longer than Ronan. Do not underestimate experience.
Besides, Teal'C has pistols and knives too. He just doesn't hide them. :thanx:
Finally, Teal'C seems to have quite a bit more patience than Ronan. I think that would also serve to Teal'C advantage as well.

You make a good point.
A Wraith will get a lot more physical with someone whereas a Goa'uld will let their Jaffa do the dirty work and if that fails, they have their nifty technology to stop people who would attack them, such as their hand device. However, we do know that if it comes down to hand to hand combat, a Goa'uld does possess super-human strength. You don't have to worry about their hand zapping the life out of you, though you might worry about a Goa'uld jumping at the back of your neck or in through your mouth.
So is a Wraith physically stronger than a Goa'uld? I'm not sure. Most Goa'uld don't seem to enjoy physical hand to hand fighting. I would imagine they'd be about the same. However, the Goa'uld are more civilized whereas the Wraith are more beastlike. Which is more dangerous? I would think the Goa'uld are simply because of their intellect. They can think of ways to torture a person mercilessly whereas a Wraith's behavior you can pretty much guarantee, they're only interested in one thing, satisfying their appetite. The Goa'uld will torture for the sheer pleasure of it.
I tend to think the Wraith and Goa'uld are just as dangerous and difficult to fight if you find one. I think Ronon is a very good, strong, and competent fighter but Teal'c, who is much older than Jack, has many more years experience.
I think it would be cool to see those two go at it on the show, just to see who really would win.

Several decades of being in Apothis' army doesn't sound like it's better than several years of surviving Wraith hunting you down with a tracking device in your back. IMO, Ronan's experience is greater than Teal'c's.
In fighting skills? I feel like the Wraith are better fighters. The Wraith are like samari and the Jaffa are like medieval knight. The Samari would pwn the knights.
Colonel Carter
12-14-2006, 03:53 PM
Well we've now defeated the Goa'uld and are quite familiar with them. The Wraith are a brand new enemy that we don't yet know as well as the Go'auld.
I think that saying Wraith are like Samuri is giving them a little too much credit. When I think of a Samuri I think of sharp, honed in fighting skills. I don't think the Wraith fight that way. I think they fight more like beasts. I wouldn't quite compare Jaffa to medieval knigts. They didn't have guns back then. More like Revolutionary War soldiers. :)
The Ori are like Ninjas! :p
Elijah
12-14-2006, 04:01 PM
The Ori are more like wizards beating up on normal people. The Wraith seem to fight more like martial artists in my mind, and what I mean by medieval knights is the hand to hand fighting skill are similar.

Hmmm.....I don't really see the samuri/wraith correlation. I don't really see much martial arts in what the wraith do. I'll rewatch some episodes to verify my thoughts, but that's what I recall for now.
The Jaffa, well, I don't rightly know what to compare them to. I see more martial arts in the Jaffa than the Wraith. However, I will concede that is more from watching Teal'C than the Jaffa in general.
Colonel Carter
12-14-2006, 05:53 PM
I think Teal'c has more martial arts fighting style than the Wraith. Most of the Jaffa though when you see them fighting are flying through the air. :p Their stupid armor would make movement difficult. I call it stupid because it's proven useless against every kind of weapon and they always look clumsy wearing it.

You know, I can never figure that out either. I hate their uniforms.

I was using Teal'c as an example for the Jaffa, and those one they catch a lot, Bob, George, whoever. Tayla had a tough time with the first one. Looked pretty martial artisy to me, but I could be wrong.
Anissa T
12-15-2006, 12:36 AM
Tayla looks the most martial arts out of all of them.
Elijah
01-08-2007, 01:36 PM
No argument from me there.
Colonel Carter
01-08-2007, 07:55 PM
Teyla uses more martial arts. I wouldn't say the same for the Wraith, but her fighting style which is probably more or less the style for her people is that way. I'm not sure about Ronon because when I think about him, I think of him more shooting guns. I've not paid much attention to how he fights hand to hand.
Teal'c meditates and the way he does it makes me think of martial arts though. I think it would be hard for Jaffa to really fight hand to hand though in that armor which they pretty much always wear and rarely are they seen to be fighting hand to hand, probably because when the Goa'uld were masters of the universe they didn't have to fight much hand to hand. But even the staff weapon to me looks like it has some martial arts influence. Isn't a staff a weapon used in martial arts?
Off topic, have we ever seen Jack fight someone hand to hand besides in the movie?
Elijah
01-10-2007, 02:51 PM
Not to my knowledge.
Anyway, I think Tayla's fighting style is based on the male Wraiths' styles. They look very similar when those two fought.
Ronan does fight hand to hand a couple of time and seems to have a style developed to be better than Wraith.
Teal'c does do some martial arts (Bratac made sure of that) and the staff is used like a quarterstaff sometimes.

I have to go with Ronan. I don't know why, he seems kinda sneaky in a way that Teal'c isn't. In a face to face Teal'c would win but in a 'search and destroy/survival Ronan takes the cake. He is more used to that style of fighting.

I am going to have to agree with you there. Plus, you have to take into account now that Teal'c is not as young as he used to be.

I would guess late 20's early 30's.
Besides that I voted for Teal'c. He was the prime of gou'ld and yes I know his name, Apophis... but anyhoo...you don't get there by not having brains, brawn and excellent fighting skills.
Mind you I think Ronon is a skilled fighter, but in the long run I think Teal'c would show the wee whipper snapper whose boss.
Lemuria, I know I did something you didn't expect, I complimented Ronon.:thbt::t2

I personally think you're all trying to compare apples and oranges. Different galaxies, different cultures, different fighting styles, different experiences, different enemies...but Teal'c, hands down...*grin*
(Never forget, the experiences of age can outsmart the 'vitality' of youth every time!)
Lemuria
07-10-2007, 12:13 AM
Yes, Teal'c will have the advantage because he has his walking stick,uh, I mean staff weapon. :raz: I am just joking with you, Robin.
Robin K

LOL! Have you seen him with that thing? Impressive! Of course, the fact that I have never been an SGA fan (watched the first season...never could get 'into' it. Mostly because I found the wraith to be the most unbelievable 'enemy' that they could have created!) is an influence on my opinion.

Teal'c all the way. I just don't think that Ronon, for all his tricks and hidden weapons would be able to get one up on him.

Teal'c was First Prime of Apophis, and has been running and fighting every day from the age of Primta. He could beat Ronan hands down. :2cents:

I'm also thinking Teal'C at a minimum has several decades of experience over Ronan. I can't remember Teal'C exact age.

I was thinking he was well into his eighties or nineties...which for a Jaffa is still a 'young pup'...XD

You also have to add the years in the last episode.(the one where they all aged and Landry died of old age..I know I am terrible with titles of episodes) So, I think he is closer to Bra'tac's age now. As far as I can figure it. But then again it is 5:18 am on a Sunday morning...so who knows...LOL

It is difficult to know, I mean, Ronons speed and his assasin-like technique. Like in sateda, he dodged wraith shots with inches and I doubt teal'c has that kind of killer instinct unless hes gonna have his jaffa revenge thing...
Im not sure, maybe teal'c would win, or maybe hes getting old... couldn't tell

Teal'c = Jaffa
Ronan = bad *** human
Jaffa trumps bad *** human because he is a genetically engineered super human that can take a comparable sized human and bend them into a pretzel note the early season episode with the virus that made people into cavemen. and the late season episode where Mitchel tries to fight him. If ronan had a gun he'd have a chance in a gun fight but hand to hand if teal'c got one hand on him he would break him to say the least.

I am still going with my man Ronan. As much as I do like Teal'c, he is now an old man, the past few seasons he has gone soft (seems to have become more the councilman than the warrior), and last but certainly not lease.......he no longer has junior. :raz:LOL.

The problem is that Ronon and Teal'c are counterparts of the same character, which is why they would probably end up in a stalement with Sheppard, O'Neill, or Cameron stepping in to stop the fight. Teal'c is the bad-*** alien in SG1 and Ronon is the bad-*** alien in SGA. They fit well in their respective galaxies. Ronon would probably have to learn to adapt if, for some strange reason, he was faced with having to kill some jaffa and Goa'uld and Teal'c would likewise have to adapt to Wraith. The jaffa, except for the Sodan and the Asian one that's never given a name, are not very physical (at least, the bad-guy jaffa). They rely more on weapons. Whereas the wraith, in general, are more physical. Both would probably be competant in adapting.
I think it would ultimately come down to who has the strongest will. I mean, look when Teal'c went nuts after the explosion of a peaceful summit and had the to-the-death fight with that other jaffa. He got really hurt, but he ultimately one. Likewise, Ronon's been close to death and still was able to prevail. Both instances were due to their will to live.
You also have to remember that even though Teal'c is around 130 now, at the end of season 10, so is Bra'tac and he can kick just as much *** as the rest of them.
I think both would be cocky and overly confident in their abilities. I'd put my money on Teyla who would come in with her sticks and beat them both for being so macho. >.<
But if I had to choose, I'd say it would end up in a stalemate.

I know I have missed several episodes of SG1, but I don't rightly recall Teal'C ever having a spear (my warped mind is totally picturing Teal'C in the Olympic javalin toss). But, I suppose I could be wrong. :thanx:

Hand-to-hand would definetly be a draw, but armed combat Ronon would win hands down.

06-10-2008, 09:45 PM
teal'c has a fair chance in armed combat
Dev Brown
06-11-2008, 01:45 AM
normally, yes, but against Ronon's blaster thing and his huge knife/sword?
Not a change, although it does depend on range.
At longe range Teal'c would win in armed combat.

06-14-2008, 08:02 PM
to make it fair you could have them both use earth weapons

06-14-2008, 09:15 PM

XDXD Good one NF,
But Ronon's been on the run from Wraith for 7 years. I think that if you can kick super-human-lifesucking aliens but, a Jaffa would be a walk in the park.
Robin K
06-16-2008, 05:13 AM
Apparently you've not seen episodes that discuss the training a Jaffa goes through.
Let's face it, the tattoo on Teal'c's forehead alone makes him tougher than Ronan...the symbol is carved into the skin, and molten gold poured into the wound. Now THAT, my friend, is TOUGH!
Dev Brown
06-16-2008, 05:26 AM
I've seen those eps.
And yeah that's though but someone did that for him right? What about trying to cut a transponder out of your back, with only a (combat)knife and a mirror? THAT's thougher mon ami.
Robin K

I think Teal'c has been in similar situations. Truth is, I'd hate to meet up with either of those guys in a dark alley if they were upset with me! *grin*

Best thing to agree here is that it would be a stalemate (since both R and T have 8 votes :p)

bit of a no-brainer for me... teal'c! ronon may be younger, and more energetic. and he's proven to be resourceful. but he lacks the life experience teal'c's had as a warrior. it's fair to say that ronon won't live beyond 100 years. with teal'c's type of life expectancy (something not every jaffa achieves), there's just so much more you can learn.
