Edit to Add:

Here are the addresses the Save Carson Beckett web site suggests we write to. I don't normally bother with things like this, but I love Carson Beckett enough that I'm going to write. So I hope ya'll do as well. They stress you be polite and I agree. In general we tune people out who act like jerks to us.

End Edit...

I'm so mad! I might actually stop watching the show now. First they got rid of Ford whom I loved, now they're getting rid of their best character - Dr. Beckett! This show is soooo messed up. Stupid producers and their stupid decisions. *grumble*

In an article in Eclipse Magazine, McGillion said this:

I think each character is beginning to find the different layers and sometimes the darker side of the characters. I can tell you one thing for Beckett as a character in the second half of the season, there's a lot of major plot lines that are developed throughout with Beckett in mind and I think the fans will be in for some big surprises.

I will be SO mad if they ruin his character like they ruined Ford's by turning him into more of a jerk in the second half of season 1.

Producer John Smith announced it at a convention in England last weekend and is saying that Beckett will not be killed off but like Ford, will make some guest reappearances.

There is a web site established and they say it right when they say he is the heart of Atlantis.

Get out of town!

Why? That just doesn't make any sense.........

I can't decide if I'm more furious or saddened. While, Sheps character was probably the center of the show, I found Beckett kept everyone down to earth and in check. I can't believe I'm gonna say this because I like Weir, but I'd rather they kept Beckett over Weir's character.

This upsets me very much.....

I totally agree. It's like Beckett is so many people's favorite character while I've never met anyone who was that fond of Weir. It makes absolutely no sense why they would get rid of someone who is so popular with fans yet keep someone fans don't really care much for.

I thought they were edging themselves towards getting rid of Weir's character because of the problems she was having when she went back to earth.

Weir is my favourite of the Atlantis characters. It may not be a case of TPTB "getting rid" of Beckett. It is possible that Paul McGillion chose not to remain on the show.

He is popular, and since he hasn't been a regular as long, it is possible that he costs less that the actors who have been regulars from Day One, so I don't see TPTB wanting to get rid of him.

That's not the vibe I'm seeing in what I'm reading. The vibe I'm getting is that Paul isn't happy about it.

Has there been any word on whose idea it was, or what the circumstances were?

I'm not so sure he is leaving rather than just show some more darker side of him. I think since becket is so pro life and does not want to kill, that they will put him in a situation where he has to be more warior than savior. This in turn will cause some strong emotions to arise with becket.

Thats my take on it anyway.

I edited my first post to include the addresses of who to write that the Save Carson Beckett web site suggests.

So you guys need to write all those people. Perhaps they'll change their minds if they get a lot of letters from fans wanting Beckett to stay.

Carson's getting canned? Why? I think he's extremely important to the show.

However, I faintly remember a scene where I got the impression his genes had been tampered with. I can't remember which episode though. I'm thinking it's the one with Michael and the other wraith on the planet. I got a feeling they did something to him.

Oh, SciFi is just wanting me to stop watching it all aren't they.I getting that feeling too. Did Lucas or Star Trek pay Sci-Fi to try to ruin Stargate or something?

That's why I hate not being able to have all the episodes on DVD. I can't go back and rewatch the episode!

I'm trying to remember. Was Carson at any point a prisoner of Michael and his gang?

Fairly certain. The more I think about, the more comes back to me.
