View Full Version : Has Jack lost his charm?

Does anyone miss the old Jack? It seems to me that in his recent cameo's, Jack just doesn't have that old sparkle in his eye, that sly smile and that sarcastic sense of humor like he used to. He seems... old, tired, worn out. Like he finally grew up and out of his childlike personality.

I feel myself missing the old Jack O'Neill, even when he's doing his cameos. And I hate seeing Jack in his formal blue air force suit. He needs to be dressed down, relaxed and comfortable.

That's what happens when you become a general. I think the problem is, he just isn't spending enough time interacting with anyone on the show.

Or its just the writers arent really giving him much to do. The atlantis season split episode, he had very, very few lines.

Which seems strange to me. He travelled all the way from California to Canada and they give him hardly any scenes or lines. Seems kinda insulting if you ask me.

I agree. I think TPTB are so enamoured of their new characters that they didn't make full use of RDA - for example, they should have had all, or at the very least four out of five of his appearances on SG-1, instead of sending him to Atlantis for three of them.

I think they're afraid that if they have him around too much, Mitchell will end up looking like a poor second.

It'll be interesting to see what he does in the movie.

I think that another aspect is since Jack is implied to be dating Sam now, he's probably become more placid. A lot of great novelist say that once you marry a couple, they become less compelling.

I think it also has to do with the fact that he's more of a desk-pusher now. When he did the replicator episodes, I found him much more engaging than the few episodes in which he poked his head in and said hi. He does seem to have lost some of his drive... it could partly be that RDA is semi-retired now.

You have to remember too, it may not just be a choice that TPTB made. So, him having such a few lines could have been a choice that RDA made.

It is not Jack's fault for being lame...it is called aging. Poor dude come on he used to be Mcgyver (I hope that is spelled right, probable not!). Also, he needs to be in the show more to actually show his dry sarcasm. Not all episodes during stargate sg1 was he funny, some he was actually serious.

RDA never appealed to me anyway. Kurt Russell was the original and will always be the real O'Neill to me. But that is just my opinion.

Yeah, well to me RDA as Jack O'Neill is awsome and handsome. He has a unique sense of humor that is so much like mine. He braught something to the roll that Kurt did not.
So, in my opinion Jack has not lost his charm in the least.

Nope, Jack hasn't lost his charm. He's a general, head of Homeland Security, and we just don't get to see him as much. I blame the writers for the lame 'cameos' that RDA has made. But then, they went stupid a couple of years back, don't expect that situation to change at all.

You know I must say that everytime Jack came on the screen in cameos I was like laughing and smiling saying...It's Jack...LOL
My Dog was looking at me like what the heck.
Any little bit of Jack I can get is cool with me. ;)

BTW my opinion Mitchel...is not all that nice so I will leave it at that!

I'll never understand what anyone can find about Rodney McKay or Carson Beckett that thrills them so...neither are what could be considered good looking. I will admit that I haven't watched Atlantis past the first season, and not even all of it, because the show never impressed me...but what I did see of the characters...nope...nada...nothing interesting about them to me.

Cam Mitchell is okay, I just hate the way he was brought to the show. (Read Lisa's story "Favors" (http://www.robinkh.com/Lisa%27s%20Stories/Favors/favors_introduction.htm) and you'll see how it SHOULD have been done...LOL!)

Jack is a lot of fun to write for, although I'm not as drawn to him as I am Daniel Jackson.

Ah, Daniel Jackson. THERE is a man worth panting over!

I so agree. It would be rather boring if we all thought the same way, wouldn't it?

You ever notice how how Jack's voice, or rather, his way of delivering his lines, changed from his role to his cameos? Like, he went more "sure, you betcha" kinda way in his cameos.

I personally think that had more to do with the dialogue itself.
