Why did he leave? I mean what was his part in this? I don't get why he showed up and then disappeared afterwards. I mean he seems to have no real plot to this show.

I read that a lot of fans didn't like him and thought his character was the weakest in the group. So the powers that be let him go and created the character Ronon to take his place.
Personally, I always loved Ford from the first episode and I really don't like Ronon very much. So I was disappointed in their decision regarding Ford.

Are you kidding me? Ford was the weapons master. He was anything but weak...
While I do enjoy this half-wraith thing that hes got going on, I still want more ford! GIVE ME SUPER-FORD
Hes my favorite character in atlantis ;(
>.> He supposedly died on the wraith ship or whatever. But like micheal, he is anything but dead...

With him gone, it's way too unbalanced. On SG-1 you had two military officers and two non-military, one being a civilian and the other being from another planet.
On Atlantis in season 1 you had two military officers and two civilians, one being a civilian and the other being from another planet. Now they have only one military officer, one to two civilians, and two people from other planets.
Stargate has always had a major military aspect to it ever since the movie. It's far more interesting with the military playing that major role. Without it, you got politics and most people hate politics.
